HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY TO GAYPATRIOT

Posted by GayPatriot at 9:36 pm - September 4, 2005.

With everything going on this week, I nearly forgot something.

One year ago on September 2nd, the GayPatriot blog was born. Our Sitemeter stats reflect a September 4th start date.. it took me two days to figure that out. Here was my first posting. I think the writing has gotten better. *laughing*

Thanks to all of the GP readers for your support, both moral and financial, during this very interesting year of my life.

I would like especially thank John (PatriotPartner) for his never-ending support and patience with me as I’ve discovered this new hobby of mine. Thanks also to PatriotMom for always being there… I see she has become an active participant lately!

And of course, I have to thank my partner-in-blog, Dan (GayPatriotWest). Thanks for everything Dan! And a special welcome and thank you to the newest member of our GayPatriot team, “Webmaster Jay.”

Thanks to VtheK, NorthDallasThirty, Christian Grantham, Rainbow Resistance, and the other “early adopters”.

Oh, and thanks to Chris Barron-Edwards for putting the blog on the map. *friendly dig*

Finally, I have been very lucky to have had the support of some of the blogosphere’s top movers-and-shakers, including Glenn Reynolds, Roger L. Simon, Stephen Green at Vodkapundit, BoiFromTroy, Tim Blair, Michelle Malkin, PoliPundit, DJ Drummond, Lorie Byrd, Patrick Ruffini, Jonah Goldberg at The Corner, Bridget and Dirty Harry at GOPVixen, Dean Esmay, and the guys at LittleGreenFootballs and Powerline as well as countless others!

One year down…. many more to follow…..

  5. Congratulations to you, Bruce, and your West Coast blog partner!

Your opinions are sometimes more conservative than I am — since I am a “Goldwater Republican” — but I check your site every day and thoroughly enjoy your observations and insights. Even when I disagree.

    Keep up the good work.

  9. So let me get this straight, if you disagree with this President you are either a liberal or you are a liberal?

I hear that there are folks in Russia that long for the days of Stalin.

This blog makes me think of that.

Me? Not a con nor a lib… imagine that.

  15. I’m not sure internalized homophobia is something to celebrate. I think one Reader put it quite well when (s)he described so many of the posts here as those who worship the Leader of the Cult of the Church of the GOP. Cultism explains a lot of the incest that goes on here.

I still don’t know how two gay dudes can support the rabidly anti-gay, anti-conservative, religious-reich, anti-science agenda of GWB. Rather than deal with The Problem, almost all posts resort to mindless mantras of can’t-see, won’t-do, you’re-liberal verbal masturbation.

Frankly, I find the agenda of Pat Robertson, Jerry Fallwell, Jim Dobson, and Lou Sheldon wholly anathema to the conservative agenda outlined by Edmund Burke, Friedrich von Hayek, Ludwig von Mises, Michael Oakshott, and the whole conservative platform. Most of you aren’t conservative, but cultists.

When pressed to give just THREE instances in which GWB is truly conservative, ONLY Clint even tried. The evidence, of course, illustrates GWB is NO conservative. Even the liberal Reader could cite more reasons why GWB is no conservative than Clint reasons for.

I wish I could hope for your continued success, but too many of you simply don’t get it: You’re not conservative, and what’s worse, you give conservatism a very bad name.

    Comment by Stephen — September 5, 2005 @ 8:01 am - September 5, 2005

  16. Stephen, I understand what you’re saying. I too find the term, “celebrate”, inappropriate in this case. Maybe we can offer an “acknowledgment” instead – acknowledgment that GP and GPW are hosting a site that has great “sunshine” value in exposing the collaborationist minority within the gay community.

So I raise my glass (actually a 22-year-old coffee mug my brother the Navy man brought me from Iceland) in acknowledgment of the hard work GP and GPW have put in over the past year in providing much-needed light on a cadre of gay men – gay men who I believe bring extraordinary, if misplaced, political passion (and sometimes sparkling commentary) to the cause of anti-gay Republicans everywhere.

    Comment by Reader — September 5, 2005 @ 8:39 am - September 5, 2005

  17. Geez, like there are NO anti-gay Democrats?

Then please explain why the Bluest of Blue state voters (ie Democrats) all voted against gay marriage as witnessed in the 2004 elections?

Really Reader your hate is overexposed…please cover yourself up…it’s ugly.

Besides, this is supposed to be a birthday celebration BUT as always someone shows up to ruin the party with their hateful factually vacuous accusations which serve no purpose BUT to drive people apart.

    Comment by syn — September 5, 2005 @ 9:14 am - September 5, 2005

  18. Syn, sadly, your partisanship is blinding you to fact. Here are the only facts that matter on the issue of which of the two parties is best for gay folk — all of the legislative votes on marriage equality to date.

    DEMOCRATS ARE BRINGING YOU
    MARRIAGE EQUALITY
    DESPITE GOP RESISTANCE

    In Vermont, April 2000:
    Senate – FOR = 19 (17 DEMS, 2 Gop)
    Senate – AGAINST = 11 (GOP all)
    House – FOR = 79 (59 DEMS, 15 Gop, 4 Prog, 1 Ind)
    House – AGAINST = 68 (51 GOP, 16 Dems, 1 Ind)
    Signed by DEM Governor

    In Connecticut, April 2005:
    Senate – FOR = 27 (21 DEMS, 6 Gop)
    Senate – AGAINST = 9 (6 GOP, 3 Dems)
    House – FOR = 85 (71 DEMS, 14 Gop)
    House – AGAINST = 63 (37 GOP, 26 Dems)
Signed by GOP Governor (a liberal you like)

    In Oregon, July ‘05
    Senate – FOR = 19 (17 DEMS, 2 Gop)
    Senate – AGAINST = 10 (9 GOP, 1 Dem)
The GOP-controlled House refused to allow a vote there.

    And LAST WEEK in California:
    Senate – FOR = 21 (ALL 21 DEMS)
    Senate – AGAINST = 15 (14 GOP, 1 Dem)

Add to this the fact that when your Dear Leader proposed an amendment to forever enshrine anti-gay bigotry into the Constitution, it was the Democrats to beat back the attempt.

    Comment by Reader — September 5, 2005 @ 9:34 am - September 5, 2005

  19. syn — Actually, that Fred “GodHatesFags” Phelps guy is a Democrat. He even endorsed Al Gore, and Al Gore thanked him for it. But don’t let that word get around the plantation. It might add an unwanted shade of color to the black-and-white world some of the party-poopers seem to inhabit.

    Comment by V the K — September 5, 2005 @ 9:50 am - September 5, 2005

  20. And frankly, syn, just knowing that this site — simply by making a place for gay Republicans like GP and GPW, and non-Republican-independent-thinkers like me to express our dissent — drives people like Reader, Stephen, and Chandler batty, well, it makes me smile. So, when they make bitchy comments and try to spoil the party, I just laugh. And the more hysterical, bizarre, and hyperbolic their rhetoric gets, the more it amuses me.

  24. When pressed to give just THREE instances in which GWB is truly conservative, ONLY Clint even tried. The evidence, of course, illustrates GWB is NO conservative. Even the liberal Reader could cite more reasons why GWB is no conservative than Clint reasons for.

That is because, Stephen, Clint is more optimistic than the rest of us, and believed at that point that you were interested in debate. When you proceeded to deny free trade, promote welfare instead of ownership and responsibility, and say that people are too stupid to manage their own money, I think he realized that his optimism was misplaced.

  25. Happy Blogday, Bruce!

And for the Usual Suspects: Get a life! (Before you accuse others of incest and masturbation, look at your actions! :-) )

    Comment by joe — September 5, 2005 @ 11:18 am - September 5, 2005

  26. I’ll agree that Bush isn’t very conservative, and my personal Bush Approval rating is only about 37%. But when I see people go into stupid, unjustified bashing about vacations and whatnot, I’ll attack them because my approval rating of stupid is 0%.

I think that the amount of moonbat bashing of Bush makes it too easy for the president’s supporters to disregard legitimate criticisms when they are made. And when I disagree with Bush as far as profligate spending, or his conduct of the war, etc … I would rather look at why his philosophical approach leads him to make the decisions he makes and argue the logic of that approach, rather than just call names and throw out conspiracy theories.

And GP gives me a forum in which to do so because my own blog is pretty much nothing but fart jokes and sick, twisted, freak humor.

  30. Joe’s “ya big cowardly psycho” pretty well illustrates the verbal masturbation of this Cult. I’d point out your ad hominem, Joe, but I’m sure you’d have no idea of what I am talking about. But it’s an excellent example of why this list has only a handful of incestuous readers, which I am glad to say I am no longer one.

  45. (#44 – Explanation on the off-chance anyone reviews this thread in the future and wonders what’s up. Stephen has shown himself to be a very hateful poster. His comments in these threads have been mostly negative/destructive, and, have included ad hominems on other posters. #30 is a classic portrait of a bully’s retreat from the playground, trying to make it “dignified” with a last snarl, after the others confronted him successfully in this long thread among others: http://gaypatriot.net/?comments_popup=499)
