Rooms/Housing for Katrina Victims

September 4, 2005 by GayPatriot

Michael at GayOrbit is keeping his posting front and center about sharing housing for gay and lesbian victims of Katrina.

Another option, if you have a spare room in your house in any part of the USA…. sign up at KatrinaHomes.org (now being run by the American Red Cross). I have emailed the administrator and suggested that a category for gays & lesbians be added. Just thought it might be a helpful suggestion.

If any of you know of friends/relatives who need a place to stay, please let me know and I’ll do my best to put them in touch with the right people.

As a conservative Christian, I love your blog…. but as a parent I would never allow a homosexual to be alone with my children.

    Bob:
I’m glad that we conservatives aren’t as cynical as you seem to be.
For example, although I don’t agree with her, I can see where Susan is coming from and hope she’ll someday meet someone who can change her mind about us.

    I’ve offered, Bob, twice.

And Susan, welcome….if you’d like to talk about your stance a bit more, please email me. Thank you!

I’m not certain the website Katrinahomes.com gave a lot of thought to the name. It sounds too much like KatieHolmes.com, Tom Cruise’s girlfriend’s site.

How one gets Katrina and Katie confused is just weird to me. Katrinahomes.org is helping many families out there and god bless them!

What’s the dealio? Didn’t we establish on an earlier thread that it’s okay if people only want to open their homes to people they share common values with?

Well, Susan, what an elightened, loving person you are. [/sarcasm]

Actually, that is such a hateful, ignorant thing to say that I can only hope it was actually posted by some left-wing nutjob who wants to reinforce all the worst stereotypes about Christians. But sadly, that’s probably not the case.

    Bob,
Don’t know your CV, but do know you are clearly biased against conservatives. No matter what your sexual orientation, such bigotry harms all of us in a time when we should be pulling together.

I’m a former pro-choice liberal (voted twice for Clinton) who has been pushed to the right by the bitter, virtriolic spewings of those who hate everyone who doesn’t march in lockstep with the agenda-driven ANSWER, ACLU, NOW, Jesse Jackson, nanny state crowd.

Personally, I’m with MLK Jr., i.e. more interested in the content of a person’s character and his treatment of others than externally applied labels. (And BTW, I’m not one of those evil Christians that folks like you love to lump together under one of those convenient demonizing labels, nor am I gay.)

Personally, I see no difference between the pathetic bigotry exemplified by both Bob and Susan. Both sides of this coin are divisive, ugly and deserving of the most emphatic condemnation.

All this hatred has to stop, or this country is in deep, deep trouble.

Very real sir. And I’ve been reading your letters here for a long time. I’ve wondered a lot about your point of v iew about children, and I am certain that most republicans DO NOT agree with what you’re doing. Gay people can be funny and charming but should never be allowed to be that close to children. You should think about what youre doing.

Odd, that, because I post at several conservative blogs, (especially LGF) and I have received nothing but support for “what I am doing.” And I find it more than a little odd that a self-proclaimed “Conservative Christian” would suddenly show up to post curiously stereotypical comments in a thread dealing with housing for hurricane relief.

I believe the housing emergency in AL has been resolved. I was able to pass along 4 offers in AL to them, waiting to see if they panned out. The offers I’ve received have been so wonderful. I told my daughter *I* want to go live with some of these people! How fast could I become a gay man in a commited relationship? lol I’ve started a list for GLBT housing, have 200 so far. Thanks to all who have written!
