By the way, no one ever commented on the controversy of the MSM showing video of dead bodies in New Orleans, which has been vehemently apposed by right-wing groups, like my protest of how video footage was linked to on this site to the 9/11 footage which included people jumping out of the buildings etc.

I was working in a call center for a major airline. All we knew is what the callers said, what their TVs in the background said, or what other employees coming in on later shifts had heard or seen.
Many of us were on a emergency response team that takes phone calls from family when an airline incident occurs. You know how when there’s a plane crash and they show an 800 number on a screen? That’s for this one company and many of us would have fielded those calls. We spent the whole day waiting to see if they would activate us, but we weren’t.
One good thing was that we were told to take a break whenever we felt a need to. I blew through my one pack of cigarettes in about 3 hours instead of the usual 24. The company also provided boxes of tissue and quiet rooms. I’ve never “needed” a drink, but when I got home that night and was finally able to see a TV, I NEEDED a drink.

My September 11th memory.

I work in a call centre, and we don’t have any radios or anything so the first news we hear is rumors from people calling in. Bits and pieces. I’m sure all of us remember how you couldn’t get anything on the internet, because of the sheer volume of traffic.

When I heard the Pentagon got hit, that made me panic. Our girlfriend at that time had a daughter in mil-int, and I knew she did frequent the pentagon. I was able to get an e-mail off to her, to ask if she’d heard from her daughter. I got a reply, and could tell she didn’t know what had happened, so I spent the rest of the day worrying sick. When we got home, there was a message from her letting us know all her kids were accounted for. I don’t think I’ve ever been so relieved

I’ve been lucky so far. With friends and family abroad not just in the army but civilians too, I’ve not lost any to the terrorists in Iraq, or the Phillipines, or Israel or whereever else the bastards have struck.

Off-Topic: SO LONG, �glisteny�! - A note to all GP posters:

I think you all should know that READER has spent the past week or so posting a variety of whacked-out messages on a number of different GP threads under my screen name �glisteny�. I think most of the regular posters here may have suspected as much.

Judging from the weight of his previous posts, it should be fairly clear to all by now that READER is a highly disturbed individual with issues that go far beyond his frustration with me, other gay conservatives, President Bush, or the current state of American society. I am fairly confident that he is afflicted with more than a few pathologies of an undetermined nature and possibly suffers from other, more personal problems that motivate him to lash out in the way he does. Some of you will also know that prior to his current on-screen persona, he posted here under the name �DEMESNE LORD� until he was banned by Bruce for his over-the-top comments.

To that extent and in order to maintain control over my own statements, I�m permanently retiring �glisteny� in favor of another, yet-to-be-determined moniker so anything you see posted by �glisteny� from here on - whether with the incorrect Capital �G� or not - will not have come from me but instead from READER. I may also choose to post under a few different names but I�m sure you�ll be able to recognize me from the tone and sentiment expressed in the message. And, of course, by the always-correct spelling, impeccable grammar, and razor-sharp wit - none of which READER possesses.

Keep in mind, this doesn�t bother me. I am neither annonyed nor deterred by this, and I don�t really excpect Bruce to get involved because he shouldn�t have to play baby-sitter here. But the rest of you should be aware that READER is fully capable of posting under your own names, too. And you should be prepared to call him out on it if you feel he has done so.
