Yesterday….at the White House…. in case you missed it since the network news doesn’t cover good news from Iraq:
PRESIDENT TALABANI: Thank you. Thank you, Mr. President, for your kind remarks. It is honor for me to stand here today as a representative of free Iraq. It is an honor to present the world’s youngest democracy.
In the name of Iraqi people, I say to you, Mr. President, and to the glorious American people, thank you, thank you. Thank you, because you liberated us from the worst kind of dictatorship. Our people suffered too much from this worst kind of dictatorship.
Thank you, and thanks to the United States, there are now 15 million Muslims in Afghanistan and Iraq liberated by your courageous leadership and decision to liberate us, Mr. President.
We agree with Mr. President Bush that democracy is the solution to the problems of the Middle East. Mr. President, you are a visionary, great statesman. We salute you. We are grateful to you. We will never forget what you have done for our people.
We are proud to say openly and to repeat it that we are partners of the United States of America in fighting against tyranny, terrorism, and for democracy. It is something we are not shy to say and will repeat it everywhere, here and in Iraq, and the United Nations and everywhere.
Iraq is America’s ally in the war against terrorism. Our soldiers are now fighting side-by-side with your brave soldiers, now and every day. We have captured many senior elements of al Qaeda. We killed many of them, and we have also many of them in our prisons.
That’s from the elected President of Iraq. Just in case you missed it….

I realize that we have had a terrible tragedy in NO and the Gulf states, but news does continue aroiund the world.
The other bit of news that no one may have heard is that Joran Van Der Sloot has enrolled in college in the Netherlands and is essentially a free man after admitting that he raped and assaulted Natalee Holloway in his home the night she went missing.
I think it is important to be balanced in reporting news.
It is a moving speech, and it would make Americans proud of what we’re doing in Iraq, so naturally the media will bury it … unless Cindy Sheehan’s handlers instruct her to say something deranged about it.
I realize that we have had a terrible tragedy in NO and the Gulf states, but news does continue aroiund the world.
Yeah, but the leftards haven’t figured out a way to politicize, race bait and profit financially from that without appearing to be the scum of the earth that they are. They figure that they can’t win elections, so they might as well play the blame game and pray that you’re too stupid to see the failure of the Socialist state of Louisiana.
This is good — though it isn’t hard to imagine the anti-war left dismissing this guy as a puppet — but it pales in comparison to some of the sea changes occurring in Iraq. Take a deep breath, tune out all the screaming that some Sunnis are likely to vote against the Constitution — and think about what it means that a leader who two years ago was urging his followers to bloody, violent resistance against the infidel is now urging his followers to register, and to wait for further instructions about how to vote. Democracy is working.
Sure, this is great, but where was Talabani when New Orleans was being flooded and overrun by roving gangs and looters?
Clearly Talabani is totally racist.
Isn’t it amazing?
Roving gangs, snipers, and looters in Iraq are waved about by leftists as proof that Iraqis are incapable of governing themselves and should be left to be ruled by a brutal autocracy that practices wholesale murder and torture as a means of restraining such thugs.
Roving gangs, snipers, and looters in Iraq are waved about by leftists as proof of how a racist, repressive government brutalizes people and how they should be “liberated” and given opportunities.
Bruce, you want to know why it’s hard to join the Pollyanna Parade here in talking about “all the good news” in Iraq? Because of this just in…
“At Least 130 Are Killed In Bombings Across Iraq”

Not good timing on this post, Bruce.
Reader: “Not good timing on this post, Bruce.”
Um, it happened yesterday. Seems like a pretty good time for it to me.
My friend, it’s never a good time for a post like this for you because it is good news about Iraq. There’s never time for that, is there?
I’m still waiting for someone anyone on the left to unequivocally and honestly say that America is good and right for having liberated the Afghani and Iraqi people.
It kills you, doesn’t it, Reader, to have to admit that we as a Nation have done something good and decent. Must always look for the grey in a silver lining.
#8 njz, you nailed it.
The bombing details are interesting. In Baghdad, the suicide-murderer lured 100-150 poor Shi’ite workmen over to his truck with promises of work, then detonated his truck bomb.
Not a single American was killed. Not a single Iraqi political leader was killed. It was an attack, by some Muslim jihadist, on working-class Shi’ite workmen, just for them being working-class Shi’ite workmen.
Where is ReaderBigot’s outrage? (ReaderBigot – Very apt name, by the way)
LOL….I just realized I needed to edit my post of above. Change is in bold.
Roving gangs, snipers, and looters in Iraq are waved about by leftists as proof that Iraqis are incapable of governing themselves and should be left to be ruled by a brutal autocracy that practices wholesale murder and torture as a means of restraining such thugs.
Roving gangs, snipers, and looters in New Orleans are waved about by leftists as proof of how a racist, repressive government brutalizes people and how they should be “liberated” and given opportunities, certainly not left to rot.
#10 – Wow – I actually saw “New Orleans” when I first read it! 🙂 (Not until your correction did I realize your mistake)
What njz should have included was the fact that if lord BJ had actually gotten off his ass and done something about terrorism and Iraq when the liberals begged him to, he would have already been crowned Savior of the ME by now. Instead, Bush has been spending the last few years showing the BS that is BJ’s “legacy”
