So if he were a partisan Democrat he would have passed on the Democratic indictments and only prosecuted Republicans. Thanks for proving the point that he is nonpartisan.

Let’s put it this way, Chandler….Earle did everything he could to avoid prosecuting those Democrats, until it became beyond embarrassing in the newspapers. When it comes to Republicans, he’s the biggest media whore in Travis County — and that takes some serious work.

Oh, please, please, PLEASE do….can’t wait to see Nancy Pelosi screaming about unethical campaign financing.

This is becoming more delicious by the minute…..a shaky indictment by a Democratic puppet which has an excellent chance of being overturned….followed by screams about ethics from a moonbat who herself has been caught and punished for deliberate violations of campaign finance law….right in the middle of the leftist aneurysms over Bush’s next Supreme Court choice, who will be completely and totally opposed by the Democrats no matter what his/her views.

It’s the gathering perfect storm……a way to show going into the 2006 elections that the Democrats are the party of false accusers, hypocrites, and obstructionists whose only concern is power.

I am thinking this might backfire on the Democrats, if the conservative base gets angry enough. One reason Bush’s approval numbers have been tanking isn’t because more people are turning into moonbats, it’s because conservatives are angry about spending and the listlessness of the agenda. However, if DeLay is successful at selling the indictment to the base as a partisan witch hunt (helped on by a few insane over-the-top statements from the always-reliable Howard Dean), the base … part of it anyway… might rally.

But, hey, what do I know? The most popular thread on my own blog is the one making fun of a morbidly obese moonbat war protester. So, my political opinions are not that credible.

If he didn’t violate Texas law, let him go back to the House and continue being a lightning rod for Democrats right on through the ’06 elections (which, I’m sure you recognize, would be the best possible outcome for Dems at this point, who’ll have him on an ethics charge). If he did violate law, let’s see him in chains, busting rocks.

Can No. 36 provide any evidence to support her RNC talking point that “Earle went after so many Texas Democrats because Texas at the time was 99% Democrat politicians”? Please specify exactly when, in the past 20 years, Texas ever “99% Democrat”.

And have we forgotten Jim Wright? And Senator Bensen selling access to Sen Dem leaders at breakfast for $10k a person? MikeyD, Al Gore, TeddyK, and BabsBoxer have all done the same thing DeLay is accused of –the outrage from the Left is so hollow, so shallow, it will not resonate beyond the kos’ and outsports.com of the world.

Their game isn’t truth: it’s gaining momentary political advantage by lsur and trashing. It comes from learning lessons from the Hollywood tabloids trashing stars. And that’s a poor substitute for leadership or ideas.

I’m really not interested in Ronnie Earle’s partisanship, since I’ve heard reasonable cases for both sides of that. I am just interested in the facts of the case, and what DeLay is accused of doing. He is accused, basically, of knowing about a scheme by which a Texas PAC took in corporate contributions, sent them to the national committee, and got the same amount of money back on the same day. Is that laundering corporate money? I don’t know. I note he’s not accused in the indictment of doing that, but only of knowing about it. And if it is money laundering, it’s also SOP for both parties.

It seems to me that the process DeLay is accused of knowing about is somewhat less offensive than taking money from Chinese Communists, laundering money through a Buddhist temple, making explicitly illegal fundraising calls from the White House, renting out the Lincoln bedroom, or selling pardons. But again, that’s just a personal opinion.

Show where I’ve said the campaign finance laws shouldn’t apply to DeLay because there’s no controlling legal authority? Show where I’ve made any of the excuses the Clintonistas made for him?

I think the “First Husband” role will be an interesting character to develop, if the show lasts. So far, it’s looking like Commander in Chief will revolve more around the issues of a President’s family or maybe the life of a career politician, where West Wing is much more issues oriented. That’s strictly a guess, but I don’t see where else the show can go.

I wish them luck.
