Nude Painting Priest Mum on Gay Marriage

November 1, 2005 by Bruce Carroll

I mean, come on… you just can’t make this stuff up! The headline alone is like a Saturday Night Live sketch in the making!

Priest who paints nude men won’t condemn gay “marriage” – MichNews.com

The Rev. Michael Monti Parise, pastor of St. Andrew Parish in Billerica, Mass., reportedly told a parishioner that he “does not want to talk against gay β€˜marriage’” – and it seems there’s a good indication why: Parise likes to paint nude men. I guess one could call him “The Full Monti” priest.

From the good Father’s webpage:

As my style has evolved I am finding that I am expressing myself in an increasingly abstact [sic] manner.

Do you think Pope Benedict will be skimming past this particular parish in his hunt for gay priests?

Funny, it seems quite concrete to me.

I guess he’s a top then. He could probably keep the bitchy left-wing bottoms here busy for quite a while.

Well, judging from several of those paintings, it appears that he is a top. I’m sure he could take care of all the bitchy leftist bottoms in here.

Hope priests never paint nude women lest they be of accused of not condemning heterosexual marriage.

Well, that’s assuming that we’re privvy to the full body of his portfolio. I’m fairly confident that only a little digging would reveal the true depths of this “holy man’s” depravity. Frankly, I’m surprised he finds enough time to actually celebrate the Eucharist when he’s not busy pondering the many ways to represent men’s cocks on canvas! Gee, Father…maybe it’s time to make the hobby a full-time pursuit and leave the dispensation of spiritual guidance to those who aren’t so, um, distracted?

File that story under “making something out of nothing” and “cheap shots.” The priest’s critics are the sorts of people that would put fig-leaves on the naughty-bits on display in the Sistine Chapel. Not that I think his paintings are all that great, mind you.

OK, as an Irish Catholic gay male, I have some serious issues with a parish priest painting homo-erotic images for artistic pleasure. Skip the usual run to “hope the altar boys are safe”…. this priest’s actions and website shows a fundamental immaturity on his part, a misperception of his role as a priest being a selfless mission, and should cause anyone with a single iota of character to urge his superiors to move him out of the priesthood. This aint no Sistine Chapel, baby. This is art for homo-erotic pleasure akin to TomofFinand’s earlier art. And he’s trumpeting this “art” on a website???? Good God!

No wonder Catholic parish priests are held in low esteem these days… just a rung up from politicians and trial lawyers. This guy needs to be out of the priesthood and set up in a gallery in WeHo… and ditch that sweater he’s wearing.

It all gives new meaning to the license plate tagline: “Massachusetts, the State where feeling good replaced doing good 250 yrs ago”.
