College Professor Urges Soldiers to Shoot Their Officers… For Freedom

November 18, 2005 by GayPatriot

I heard about this on Sean Hannity’s radio program yesterday and it sickened my stomach.

Warren Community College English professor, John Daly, said that “Real freedom will come when soldiers in Iraq turn their guns on their superiors.” Rebecca Beach, a freshman at Warren Community College in Washington, New Jersey, received this unexpected reply to a recent email she sent the faculty at her school announcing the appearance of decorated Iraq war hero, Lt. Col. Scott Rutter, on Thursday, November 17 to discuss America’s accomplishments in Iraq.

Full text of email from Warren Community College Professor John Daly:

November 13, 2005

Dear Rebecca:

I am asking my students to boycott your event. I am also going to ask others to boycott it. Your literature and signs in the entrance lobby look like fascist propaganda and is extremely offensive. Your main poster “Communism killed 100,000,000” is not only untrue, but ignores the fact that CAPITALISM has killed many more and the evidence for that can be seen in the daily news papers.

The U.S. government can fly to dominate the people of Iraq in 12 hours, yet it took them five days to assist the people devastated by huricane Katrina. Racism and profits were key to their priorities. Exxon, by the way, made $9 Billion in profits this last quarter–their highest proft margin ever. Thanks to the students of WCCC and other poor and working class people who are recruited to fight and die for EXXON and other corporations who earning megaprofits from their imperialist plunders.

If you want to count the number of deaths based on political systems, you can begin with the more than a million children who have died in Iraq from U.S.-imposed sanctions and war. Or the million African American people who died from lack of access to healthcare in the US over the last 10 years.

I will continue to expose your right-wing, anti-people politics until groups like your won’t dare show their face on a college campus. Real freedom will come when soldiers in Iraq turn their guns on their superiors and fight for just causes and for people’s needs–such freedom fighters can be counted throughout American history and they certainly will be counted again.

Prof. John Daly

I am a proud contributor to the Young America’s Foundation (the group that keeps the Ronald Reagan Ranch in Santa Barbara going) and am glad to see this young, brave American woman speaking out. Sounds like Prof. Daly and Matt (American democracy is “immoral”) Foreman would get along well in their socialist utopia.

Amazing how twisted some people can be.

He actually thinks that the Coalition forces were sent to Iraq on 12 hours notice!!!! That it didn’t take months and months of massive staging efforts! (which in fact it took)

And that Iraqi deaths under Saddam should be laid at the U.S.’s door, not Saddam’s!

How can a human being be THAT unreal?

Academia is still employing these (anti – military-american-capitalism-judeo-christian-law abiding) idiots? Shouldn’t he be promoting “diversity”, “dissent” and “speak truth to power” within the liberal halls of academia and stop trying to stifle free speech?

Warren Community College should fire his ass.

He’d no doubt be a fine candidate for the MSM as a “reporter”.

It’s only “dissent” when it comes from the left.

You’d think that even someone who disagreed with the student’s opinions and who wouldn’t care to go listen to the guest speaker she proposed would defend with their dying breath her right to speak.

A *professor* vowing to make sure that groups like hers “won’t dare to show their face on a college campus?”

Where are the defenders of free speech, here? Where are the defenders of intellectual freedom and diversity?

Someone who believed every word of what the good professor wrote ought *still* to defend the right of students to “dissent.” The stated goal to suppress opinions with which he disagrees is beyond the pale.

Question, though. How is it that the public schools won’t even use the word Christmas for fear of offending the ACLU, but the (uber-liberal) Ninth Circus has just ruled it’s perfectly okay for schools to make kids practice Islam for 3 weeks?

I will say, though, that while Rebecca Beach couldn’t have forced the good professor to so go off the deep end… I’m pretty sure she did a happy dance when she got the letter. 😉

Okay, maybe she stared at it in shock first, and then did a happy dance. And then wrote her letter to the Dean demanding free-speech and sensitivity seminars to address the problem.

You can recognize the intellectual integrity of this particular debate when they argue over the merits of the systems based on which one has killed fewer people. Neither communism nor capitalism kill people, cruelty does.

#20 I take issue with the fact that a teacher at a community college feels that it’s appropriate to vow to “continue […] until groups like your won’t dare show their face on a college campus.”

This isn’t just a failure of neutrality.

  20. Synova says

It’s quite possible to take issue with *both* the message and the way it’s delivered. Not only is John Daly a dufus. He’s a dufus who violates principles of free-speech by vowing to intimidate students.

When you go to the Warren County Community College home page http://www.warren.cc.nj.us/ you get the following message:

    Press Release
    November 17, 2005

Warren County Community College is a “students first” college where learning without limits is always the main goal. We maintain a mission of building a community of learners through accessible, quality learning opportunities designed to meet personal aspirations for all students.

It has been brought to the administration’s attention that a part-time instructor, Mr. John Daly, speaking for himself and using his personal email, sent a message to a student representing the Young Americans for Freedom in response to a personal email from her requesting him to announce an upcoming event on the campus. Mr Daly responded to her alone, and expressed his own personal views regarding his beliefs about this group.

The viewpoints of this professor in no way depict the views of Warren County Community College, its administration, or the Board of Trustees. The College does however support the constitution, the first amendment, and the right to free speech.

Additionally, Mr. Daly’s message was sent as a one-to-one message, via e-mail, to one person, and not to the college community. Finally, the College is viewing this message as a personnel issue and will be addressing it according to the policies and procedures of the College.

Dr. Austin, college president stated, “I firmly believe every employee and student has first amendment rights, no matter how repugnant I personally find Mr. Daly’s statements. Our attorneys have advised us of our obligation to follow state laws, board policies, and college due process in regards to any personnel matter. We are now investigating this matter further.”

Seems to me the first paragraph should read:

Warren County Community College is a “faculty first” college where Communist propaganda is always the main goal. We maintain a mission of building a dedicated cadre of commissars through educating the masses with brainwashing and selective discipline techniques designed to thoroughly inculcate students with a politically correct message.

He isn’t tenured — which raises a whole different set of problems for the college administration. Also, seems in New Jersey, all the trustees are also barking moonbat faculty — unlike Indiana, where none are faculty.

  23. Synova says

    November 18, 2005 at 5:24 pm - November 18, 2005

I would agree that Daly’s free speech rights mean that he can express (or perhaps “expose” would be a better term) his political views. If he’d just said “and that’s the reason I won’t promote your event in my classes” it would be different.

I just can’t get over the end of his rant where he announces his intention of keeping this kind of speech off the campus. He’s not an equal to the person he’s talking to. As an instructor, even part-time, he’s in a position of authority. Do students have reason to fear the consequences of expressing themselves in his classes? How about the student who has joined the military or is a veteran? What about students who’s parent or sibling is in Iraq? Even if it was *just* a statement of his opinion he risks creating a hostile environment in his classes.

But this isn’t just an expression of Daly’s opinions, it’s his declaration to make it so people he disagrees with “won’t dare show their face on a college campus.”

With regard to #21 – sounds to me from the tone as if the College is more interested in placating its professor (an avowed member of International ANSWER I learned today) than the rights of its students to engage in free expression.

Rebecca will be on Hannity & Colmes tonight (Friday) at 9pm Eastern.
