BTW, that’s what the liberals consider patriotism. Anything that benefits themselves while screwing over anybody else.

Because liberals like Chandler can’t, so they ASSume nobody else can. Besides, it’s contradictory to the ruling style of their hero Saddam Hussein.

It would be a victory for America and George W. Bush. That’s why. It’s good for America so it’s bad for liberals. They know they’re finished if we succede in Iraq. That’s why the lbieral media refuse to tell you about it.

Why don’t you think that the Iraqis can manage democracy and rule of law, chandler? I realize that this point of faith is important to the foundation of the “we can’t win so why try” folks but *really* do you think so?

I think about the funniest thing I heard was an Iraqi response to a radio call in show where a woman from Saudi called up and explained why she thought that women having the vote was wrong. The reaction was entirely nationalistic… something to the tune of “Of course no one would expect *you* to do something as complicated as chose the uniforms your servants wear but *Iraqi* women aren’t like Saudi women, *our* women are smart” etc.

Sure, I also saw/read a debate in the Iraqi parlament where a woman delegate made a suggestion, some man repeated the suggestion, at which point the other men talked to him and ignored the woman. Frustrating no doubt. Still, her suggestion was ultimately accepted.

I imagine there’s a great deal of sexism in that culture (Duh) but it’s also a culture where many women are highly educated professionals and this has been true for a very long time. Many of the most educated got those educations in Europe or America. They “get” the idea of democracy.

The thing about *humans* is that they are adaptable. Probably more than any creature on the Earth, we can adapt, change, and decide to act contrary to our pasts.

Move Chandler there towards the top of their list.

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

Take that democracy-thing with you.

It’s not ours.
