Blogger Lores Rizkalla invited me to join her new radio show to talk about Brokeback Mountain at 1:15 PST (4:15 EST) on NewsTalk 870 KRLA in the wee hours of the 95th anniversary of the Gipper’s birth–February 6, 2006. You can listen to me at 870 AM in LA or if you’re not in Southern California, it’ll be webcast here. For those of you sleeping at that hour, she says she’ll archive the show and post it on the web. I’ll provide the link as soon as it’s available.

Aren’t the Red States always having to come to the rescue for problems that are caused by or in Blue State America? Heh heh.
How Arkansas Stopped A Fugitive – TIME.com
The suspect was finally found in Arkansas, 1,204 miles away from the scene of the crime—and the story’s end proved deadlier than its beginning. Jacob D.Robida, 18, had become a fugitive just 40 hours earlier in New Bedford, Massachusetts, where he had entered the Puzzles Lounge and, after confirming that it was a gay bar, shot two men with a handgun and wounded a third with a hatchet. Authorities searched Robida’s home and found neo-Nazi pamphlets and other hate literature aimed at racial and ethnic minorities. But the teenager was already speeding away in a green Pontiac, heading south and then west.
State troopers, alerted to the situation, had set up “spike strips” across the roadway. “The strips took out two of his tires but he just kept going, or tried,” says Arkansas State Police spokesman Bill Sadler. Robida’s hobbled Pontiac finally stopped after smashing against parked cars in Norfork’s small downtown area, and a gun battle with local and state police ensued. Robida was shot twice in the head and was helicoptered out to a hospital in Springfield, Missouri. Bailey was found dead in the car. An autopsy would be required to determine whether the bullets that killed her were fired by police or Robida, says Sadler. Robida himself would not be able to provide his reasons for the attack in New Bedford and his fugitive odyssey. Less than 24 hours after the Norfork gunbattle, he had died of his wounds in Springfield.
Well, at least our collective tax money is spared since there’s no need for a trial for this creep. Although I’m sure someone from HRC or NGLTF will wail that he could have been rehabilitated, rather than fried or gassed.
UPDATE (from GPW): As I understand it, Massachusetts has a Hate Crimes’ law but no death penalty. This creep certainly got what he deserved.
PatriotPartner and I ventured into unchartered territory last night by attending the East Coast World Rodeo Finals at the Cricket Arena in Charlotte. Well, that’s not entirely true as we did go to a rodeo in Cody, Wyoming about three years ago during a tour of the West.
But this was our first Charlotte entertainment activity since we moved here in December. And trust me, it was a Blue Staters Nightmare!
The National Anthem was sung proudly and loudly, prayers for the crowd and the cowboys and cowgirls were said with reverence, and all four flags of the branches of our Armed Forces were galloped around the arena on horseback.
Now, I ask you… what’s not to like about the rodeo?
More photos after the jump.
