Log Cabin Supporter Weighs In On “Convention”

March 27, 2006 by GayPatriot

Equal time rule applies on this blog! This is a reply from a staunch supporter of Log Cabin (Republicans) to this posting from earlier today.

Subj: Dumb

The posting from Ted at Charging Rhino is just flat out stupid… the convention is key noted by Senator Danforth, honors the only openly gay R member of Congress, includes pieces on immigration reform, the war on terror, and reigning in spending… there is also a piece on Republican women that includes former Gov Jane Swift… and this doesnt sound like a Republican organization? give me a break… there are legitimate complaints and then there are the desperate and pathetic rants, that honestly dont even make sense when you read them… that posting is little more than pathetic…

I’m still not sure where I see any venue for reports on what LC(R) is doing, or any grassroots voting on issues or the makeup of the Board of Directors. But hey, I’m not wasting my money to go.

when I have a moment, I will address both posts on Log Cabin’s “Convention,” aroudn which I am putting quotation marks because it’s not a convention–nothing’s going to be voted on, no officers are going to be elected, policy will not be set.

Log Cabin’s membership doesn’t do that; it’s national office perhaps together with the Board does that, while it’s the local clubs getting things done.

I’m not going to the convention this year – but in years past I’ve found these conventions valuable. They are good opportunities to network – and I’ve met others I’ve read on the Log Cabin chat lists.

Um, isn’t Senator Danforth one of those Country Club types who basically wants to kick Christians out of the Republican Party? A relic of the Era when Republicans were a permanent minority and liked it that way?

In any case, I can think of a lot of better ways to spend $1,500 than for the privilege of sitting around listening to a bunch of RINO’s whine about Bush and bash the Christian voters that keep the party viable. But then, I am not a Republican.

Oh, and Jane Swift isn’t much of a prize either. An unelected ex-Governor who was so ineffectual, she couldn’t even win a nomination for a real term. Her major achievement in office: Keeping Gerald Amirault in prison on trumped up child molestation charges, despite a unanimous vote in favor of his release by the state’s parole board and after a Pulitzer Prize winning series of articles by Dorothy Rabinowitz at the Wall Street Journal demonstrated that his prosecution was a travesty of justice.

….And yet LCR is throwing all that away by gobbing on Andrew Sullivan. I’m not impressed.

Danforth is a Rockefeller Republican. And I stand by my comments on the earlier LCR thread.
