Have you ever seen how small horses used to be- the size of ponies or large dogs. Dogs of course are the most amazing example of un-natural selction: what force of nature could have produced a French poodle? And from the same species that yields both Great Danes and Chihuahuas? So the hysteria about doing it to crops in a faster and more precise matter seems to me somewhat overblown, especially in light of the enormous benefits it could produce. How many millions of lives saved from hunger and malnutrition and possibly even disease, what environmental damage averted by a reduced need for chemical pesticides and clearcutting, how much will living standards improve all over the world from increased productivity? The people who protest against it have the luxury to do so. Why do they need golden rice when they will never have to worry about a vitamin A deficency? To me it's just sad that they would deny life-saving benefits to those in need because of purely hypothetical concerns. Has there ever been a single documented case of someone getting sick from "Frankenfoods" or drought-resistant crops running rampant like kudzu? I think biotech is pretty exciting.
