Sheen Leaving. Will Baldwin and Altman Follow?

April 13, 2006 by GayPatriot

Finally an American Liberal who keeps his word! (Hat tip: The Corner)

Martin Sheen to attend college in Ireland – via UPI

With NBC’s “The West Wing” ending its run, actor Martin Sheen is trading his TV role as U.S. president for that of a real-life Irish college student. The National University of Ireland in Galway says Sheen will study English literature, philosophy and theology with special interest in oceanography, the BBC reported Wednesday. Sheen, 65, has several honorary degrees but has been quoted as lamenting his lack of a “proper” education, the BBC said. Actress Angelica Huston is a patron of the National University of Ireland’s Huston School of film and digital media, the BBC noted.

Alec Baldwin and Robert Altman have been threatening for years to leave since the Bush 2000 election. At least President Bartlett followed through.

My only question for Hollywood Libs — what’s wrong with American universities? I thought y’all supported funding for public education here?

Just like certain lefty participants on this forum who say they are leaving and then return a few days, hours, or minutes later. The word of a liberal means nothing, it’s just a way of throwing a tantrum and getting attention.

This is what’s wrong with American universities.

One Hollywood actor goes abroad for a late life educational supplament and you as the question “for Hollywood Libs – what’s wrong with American Universities?”

Considering the number of “Hollywood Libs” that come out of programs at Yale, Harvard, Princeton, Northwestern and the like, the answer is…nothing is wrong with American Universities. However, I would never pass up the opportunity to study at Oxford or La Sorbonne (amongst others).

The essence of a liberal education is variety.

Chandler, if you are indeed from Hollywood, then you know as well as I do that the overwhelming majority of the so-called “Hollywood Libs” barely finished high school, let alone even attended a university.

I’m not in the habit of doing people’s legwork for them, but a simple run through IMDB.com will give you a perfect illustration of the lack of education most of these halfwits suffer from.

    I see two possibilities:

    1) he couldn’t get accepted to any. or, more likely,…
    2) he just wants to keep what is destined to be a mediocre to failing college career as far away from the American press as possible.

Maybe he recognized that the US isn’t the be-all and end-all when it comes to a liberal arts education.

Maybe he recognized that, after attending the Irish school, he could attend and American one.

Maybe the Irish school allowed him to attend for free.

I’m sure there are other possibilities. It’s amusing how provincial you Amis can be.

And it’s absolutely hysterical how raj digs out his thesarus in a lame attempt to make any comment, no matter how inconsequential it may be.

“Sheen will study English literature, philosophy and theology with special interest in oceanography”…Huh? The literary, philosophical and theological aspects of the ocean? The oceanic aspects of literature, philosophy and theology?
