Your analogy is specious to begin with, but the notion that Democrats must maintain a consistency that Republicans don’t is just silly. The Repbulicans have built a coalitoin of loony-toon right wing religious fundamentalists and corporate CEOs. It’s also well documented that those working class types have by and large jumped on the Republican bandwagon because of moral/social issues, while ignoring the fact that George’s fiscal polilcies hurt them most.

The fact is that Democrats will have to begin building similarly diverse coalitions and not depend on the support of historic groups like labor.
