Vera recalls a soundtrack to a recent Cole Porter bio-pic (Kevin Cline?) that featured current artists singing some delicious Porter standards – Vera is curious if this CD/DVD is the same material (in new wrappings-something Vera herself does on occasion) or is Vera just experiencing a senior moment brought on by too much gin?

I have not seen the DVD yet, but I did get the original CD and the compilation of accompanying music videos. There is some very good stuff in there.

From what I remember, not to be missed is the black and white video of Sinead O'Connor's singing "You Do Something To Me ", set in a WWII era USO but featuring *ahem* more diverse couples slow dancing than would have happened in reality at the time.

Also not to be missed was Debbie Harry and Iggy Pop in duet on "Well, Did You Evah!" lol its "swellegant".

k.d. lang's "So in Love" is heart-wrenching.

I remember there were a lot of other gems in this collection, the DVD media format will make them a great deal more accessible than they were on VHS.

We enjoy Cole Porter, but have never heard of this CD. We'll have to look it up.

For those who may be interested, there was a CD re-engineered from the 1950s Mary Martin Sings, Richard Rodgers Plays http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000003F23/sr=8-2/qid=1146086112/ref=sr_1_2/104-7136882-3086317?%5Fencoding=UTF8

It was re-issued in the early 1990s, and is absolutely astounding. And some of the renditions are quite funny, too.

I remember when the record came out in 1990 - it was pretty cool. I didn't like 100% of the performances, but it got me thinking about Cole Porter a lot more! (and AIDS of course)

Just checked out YouTube, and several of the videos are posted there. Annie Lennox has to be the best of the bunch...gets me every time.

Thanks for the heads up!
