CIA Fires Traitor For Collaborating With The Enemy

I’d say let’s dispense with the trial for treason…. take him to CTU/Los Angeles and have Jack Bauer deal with him or her. Jack has had a pretty bad day so far, I’m sure it wouldn’t be pretty. Or let’s send him to Iraq and give him a real field assignment.

CIA Officer Fired for Leaking Classified Info to the Media – FOX News

A CIA officer has been relieved of his duty after being caught leaking classified information to the media.

CIA officials will not reveal the officer’s name, assignment, or the information that was leaked. The firing is a highly unusual move, although there has been an ongoing investigation into leaks in the CIA.

One official called this a “damaging leak” that deals with operational information and said the fired officer “knowingly and willfully” leaked the information to the media and “was caught.”

I’m just waiting for a United States Senator to be the next to be charged for treason for leaking classified information about the NSA wiretapping program targeting suspected terrorists within the USA. Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick.

If Seven Generals Speak for the Military, This Blog Speaks for the Gay Community

At least since (arguably) the most significant battle in Western Civilization, the Battle of Salamis, nearly 2,500 years ago, military commanders have disagreed as to tactics. While historians herald Themistocles’ success in defeating the Persian armada, we all too often forget that before leading the Greeks to victory, that great leader had to first overcome the opposition of the Spartan commander Eurybiades. As anybody who has watched the movie Patton knows, two of the greatest (and most successful) generals of the Second World War, the American George S. Patton, Jr. and the British Bernard Law Montgomery frequently disagreed on how to prosecute the war.

Perhaps the The New York Times should have borne this in mind before choosing to place its article on retired generals calling for Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld’s resignation in a multi-column above-the-fold headline last week. To be sure, this is news, but not Page One news. It is important to know that not all military leaders support the Defense Secretary — and to understand their reasons for opposition. But, when its reporters suggest that this poses “a significant challenge to Mr. Rumsfeld’s leadership,” the New York Times attempts to make an everyday occurrence into and earth-shattering event.

Just as well-intentioned military commanders have disagreed throughout history, so have otherwise successful generals failed to meet the expectations of their nations and made significant mistakes on the road to victory. Although Churchill was initially disappointed by Montgomery’s “lack of success” in North Africa, that British General later succeeded in driving the Nazis off the continent. Before capturing Atlanta in the Civil War, General William Tecumseh Sherman ordered the tragic assault on Kennesaw Mountain. Similarly, we should not judge Rumsfeld’s entire record by his failure to meet each and every expectation and by blunders he and his subordinates have made in Iraq (and elsewhere).

Instead of understanding the reality of military history, the New York Times spins military commanders’ routine disagreement to fit its own view of the War in Iraq, that it is another Vietnam, a quagmire where the U.S. is doomed to defeat. While the Times and other critics of the Administration jump on this handful of critical commanders, others, retired generals and other senior officers as well as military scholars and pundits have risen to defend the Defense Secretary. Thus, it appears that their criticism, while representing (in most cases) a legitimate evaluation of our strategy in Iraq is not the consensus view of military leaders (current and retired) and other martial experts.

By the same logic that assumes those Rumsfeld critics to speak for the whole military, we (Bruce and myself) speak for the entire gay community. Like those generals, we have good intentions in criticizing the current leadership (in our case, of national gay organizations). In putting forward our point of view, we have made solid arguments based on the facts. And while we believe that our ideas are the best ones for the betterment of the community, our critics will remind us that most gay people, particularly gay activists, disagree with us. They are probably right.

But, if a handful of thoughtful, but disgruntled, generals can speak for the entire military, then a couple of thoughtful, but iconoclastic, gay conservatives can speak for the entire gay community. Joe Solmonese, you’re fired!

Good Riddance, Scott McClellan

Well, new White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten prevented me from writing a post that I had been planning at least since November. It shows that instead of waiting until I feel I can say what I want to say as well as I imagine saying it that I might do well to turn the idea into a post when it first crosses my mind. But, then, I want to make my posts thoughtful essays — and that often takes more time than most posts.

Just before bed, in praising the president for tapping fellow Cincinnati native Rob Portman as Director of Office of Management and Budget, I suggested that the president also “needs to do what the first (and greatest) Republican president did after Antietam — Fire McClellan.” Well, it looks like that plan was already in the works. I woke this morning to learn that he had done just that. “White House press secretary Scott McClellan announced his resignation.

It couldn’t come a moment too soon — and at least six months too late. With an aggressive, antagonistic media, the president was not well served by a press secretary who, to borrow William Kristol’s expression, seemed to be in a perpetual “defensive crouch.” As Deroy Murdock put it “White House Press Secretary Scott McMilquetoast . . . exudes timidity. His briefings instill neither confidence nor inspiration.

The White House press operation has done a terrible job of responding to disingenuous reporting. It seems as if the president, quite unlike his media savvy predecessor, thought it was merely the job of the press office to dispense information (as it once had been and perhaps should be in an ideal world where the media’s agenda in reporting the facts rather than giving its spin) and let the conservative pundits and blogs set the record straight. It’s been amusing to read all the false charges the MSM and others on the Left have leveled against the president. It’s been depressing to watch the Administration fail to rebut the better part of them.

The president needs a press secretary who exudes confidence, not timidity, and who is ever eager to promote the good news — especially about the robust economy and the signs of progress (despite occasional and significant setbacks) in Iraq. That Josh Bolten saw fit to replace Scott McClellan in his first days on the job suggests he is well aware of what ails this White House. With Rob Portman coming back to the White House and Scott McClellan on his way out, it seems that the president is moving to correct his mistakes of the last few months and has taken a step in the right direction. His naysayers notwithstanding, perhaps this president, stubborn though he may be, does learn from those mistakes.

-Dan (AKA GayPatriotWest): GayPatriotWest@aol.com

UPDATE: Just saw that Tammy has similar thoughts on McClellan: “Nice enough guy, but he always seemed to me to be in the defensive, regardless of what was happening. I never got the impression, frankly, that he was in charge of the press room.” Now that I’ve whet your appetite, read the whole thing.

Limousine Liberals Running Amok

Posted by GayPatriot at 9:07 am - April 19, 2006.

I’ve used this term before to the sheer puzzlement of my liberal friends. What could I possibly mean? Well, a limosine liberal is one who is in favor of social programs being funded by raising taxes on the middle class because the liberal is mucho-wealthy and can afford to pay… whereas the middle class worker is punished.

Another example….. Babs Streisand is rich enough to keep the little people off of her stretch of Malibu’s beach. And, despite her support of the environment, she sued to stop an environmental group from taking aerial photos of the beach to advance their cause.

Limosine Liberals = Do As I Say, Not As I Do

Here’s a priceless example of some of the most Limosine-est of them all… (hat tip: Polipundit)

Bay lawmakers among wealthiest; Feinstein and Pelosi continue to top the list of the richest members of Congress – SF Chronicle

Members of the Bay Area’s congressional delegation, which includes some of the wealthiest lawmakers in Congress, have built significant personal fortunes by capitalizing on the region’s pricey real estate market and investing heavily in the stock market.

Two of the Bay Area’s best-known lawmakers, Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of San Francisco, are fixtures on the list of Congress’ richest members.

But the majority of the region’s lawmakers are millionaires or multimillionaires — including those who spent most of their careers in government rather than the more lucrative private sector, according to the latest financial disclosure forms released last week.

And true to her Limosine Credo, Pelosi has the nerve to release this statement:

Pelosi: Republican Tax Policies Favor Millionaires Over Working Families

There’s one good reason to keep the GOP in control of Congress. The working class are in charge (for now). But Speaker Pelosi will most likely let us eat cake. *shuddering to even type the words*

I’m hunting for other good reasons to vote Republican this November…. but that’s a whopper in and of itself!

American Hero: Tim Boggs

Another example of an American hero serving our nation and humanity in bringing civility and democracy to the Middle East.

Little Things Can Mean A Lot – by Tim Boggs @ Michael Yon’s Frontline

US Army Sargeant Tim Boggs with two Iraqi children

One of the families had helped the military and was living there in fear of reprisals from anti-American forces. Another family, a mother and her three small children, were living there to escape their abusive husband and father. Several of the soldiers including myself became particularly fond of the kids in this family. We started hanging out with the oldest two kids, both boys, who were about six and three years-old.

The youngest was a small girl, probably no older than about a year and a half. They were beautiful children and they melted the hearts of many of the soldiers on base.

In the beginning, none of them spoke English so we were unable to communicate, but as anyone who has been in a foreign land can tell you there are ways around language barriers. We often played games with them or let them watch television with us. We would give them snacks and make sure they had enough food and water.

All in all, we spent a good ten months with the family. We were sad to leave them but grateful for the experience of not only helping them out but also having the opportunity to form a relationship that crossed over cultural boundaries, during a time of war. We could see the good changes that we knew we were bringing to these people that greatly needed and appreciated our help. I will be forever thankful for the experience and I hope that one day the kids will grow up to appreciate American soldiers and all that they did for their country. I honestly feel like the kids in Iraq will be our greatest asset in years to come.

All soldiers I know have a heart for the kids in Iraq and for the suffering they have gone through. Many of our greatest efforts have gone toward helping them live a better life, whether it is rebuilding their schools, giving them toys and candy, getting them proper medical attention, or simply playing games with them. My hope for Iraq lies in the next generation. Through the efforts of some amazing soldiers, I believe a seed has been planted that will one day bloom into a mass of young children raised on knowing the kindness and gentleness of American soldiers. When that time comes I believe we will finally enjoy the fruits of our labor in the Middle East.

God Bless Tim Boggs. He is truly an example of the best we have to offer the world…. and certainly not the murdering and torturing soldier that our news media and Democrats want to highlight all the time.

Slow Blogging, Stuffed Giraffes, Hobbits, Rob Portman & Log Cabin

Bruce may be suffering from blog burnout, but I have notes for countless topics I wish to address. I had thought I would blog while in the Buckeye State last week, especially about my standing-room only talk to a joint meeting of my the oldest PatriotNephewWest’s conservative club and his school’s Gay-Straight Alliance. It was heartening to see how well I was received in the heartland. And a sign of how things are improving for gay people even during the Administration of the diabolical W. More on this anon.

I would have liked to blog more, but did not always have access to the Internet. My e-mail accumulated (as did my snail mail). I did not get to follow the blogs as closely as I normally do nor have the time to blog, preferring to spend time with my family, especially the youngest PatriotNephewWest who seems to have grown quite fond of his uncle from California. On Monday, I went on a quest for the last (normal-sized) stuffed giraffe in all of Cincinnati so that each of the Twin PatriotNiecesWest could have a stuffed version of their Uncle’s childhood favorite animal. (Perhaps more on that quest anon). And much as I love blogging, I much preferred taking the second eldest PatriotNieceWest to see Ice Age: The Meltdown and reading to her the first chapters of a book I had been waiting to give her for nearly her entire life. I’m delighted to report that she seems to enjoy this classic as much as I do.

I was also delighted to learn yesterday morning while waiting at a gate in the Greater Cincinnati Airport (for my flight back to LA) that the president had tapped a man native to that city, a town from where I also hail — a graduate of my high school, indeed, a man who, as a youth in Upper School was an assistant coach to my Lower School soccer team, to serve as his budget director. It’s a good sign that the president picked Rob Portman as Director of the Office of Management and Budget. By naming Portman to this important post, this president (who has not always done a good job of reaching out to Congress) recognizes he needs to better his relationships with the legislative branch. Until assuming his current post as U.S. Trade Representative, Portman had served for twelve years in the U.S. House of Representatives where he was well-regarded on both sides of the aisle. With a close friend in this position, a friend who is also close to Congress, the president could make some real headway on budget reform.

Rob Portman is a man to watch. Should Democrat Ted Strickland be elected Governor of Ohio this fall, watch for Portman to challenge him in 2010. Or perhaps he’ll run for George Voinovich’s Senate seat should that former Governor step down.

Let’s hope that there are more such appointments at the White House. The president did promise that more changes would be coming. As I’ve said before, among other things, the president needs to do what the first (and greatest) Republican president did after Antietam — Fire McClellan.

I hope to resume regular blogging soon, especially as the Log Cabin “convention” approaches, but have a few obligations in the next few days which might delay that. I am amused that a group that bends over backwards to embrace the agenda of the D.C.-based left-leaning gay groups calls itself conservative while it invites as speakers a man known these past two years for his hysterical attacks on the Republican president and a bishop who seems more interested in speaking to gay groups than in addressing a Republican agenda.

And unhinged Bush-bashing continues apace in the MSM.

I also hope to write more thoughtful pieces on gay culture and marriage, particularly given what I experienced at my nephew’s high school and with my three married brothers who live in the Buckeye State.

Vacation Plans Locked & Loaded

Posted by GayPatriot at 12:46 pm - April 18, 2006.

Thanks to everyone for voting and commenting about the options for vacations thatJohn and I were considering this year. After careful consideration and appreciation for the overwhelming vote for the cruise to Greece….. here’s what we are going to do.

Yes gang, it will be a “Brokeback Vacation to the Rocky Mountains” … the number two voted response in the poll (with a modification).

On July 6 we are leaving Charlotte to fly to Calgary, Alberta Canada for the annual rodeo festival known as “The Calgary Stampede.” Then on Sunday July 9, we are driving four hours through the Canadian Rockies to an awesome sounding dude ranch for the next seven days. I would tell you the name of the dude ranch, but I fear some weirdo would track us down. So I’m afraid that I’ll have to plug the ranch after we get home along with photos.

We have wanted to experience both a dude ranch vacation and the Calgary Stampede for a number of years, so we just decided to combine it into one trip this year.

And why not Greece? Well, primarily because John’s job involves national security matters that would necessitate a lot of paperwork being filed with his company in order to travel out of the USA. And we costed out the Greece trip and felt as though it is something we will keep at the top of our list, but allow some time to save up for that one. But thanks for the comments and the vote!

So NDT was right…. dude ranch, DUDE RANCH… it is.

The Malcontent Takes On A Troll

Posted by GayPatriot at 12:31 pm - April 18, 2006.

Just spotted this “Memo To Future Trolls” over at The Malcontent, and I have to say I couldn’t agree more.

After nine months of blogging at this URL, I have banned my first troll, a commenter going by the name of “studiotodd.”

I think blogs with “policies” – whether regarding commenting or blogrolling or whatever – are exceedingly lame, so I haven’t really put my thoughts on those subjects into writing. Previously, I had banned only spammers, and one gentleman who felt it appropriate to make generalized death threats against gays. And I was proud of fostering free-flowing debate, even if it has tended to be (yes) more right-leaning than the typical gay blog.

My “policy” is pretty simple: I’m an easy-going guy, but I too have limits. I have paid thousands of dollars to keep this site running.

So if you work extra-hard to antagonize me, Robbie or our readers, and you have the misfortune of crossing me during one of my less charitable moods, you too may share what studiotodd calls his “badge of honor.” (Forget that moonbats like BlogActive, AmericaBlog and others make frequent and ostentatious displays of banning trolls for the slightest infractions.)

All points of view are still welcome here. But you will sorely test my patience if you start painting too broad a stroke with terms like “racist,” “Jews for Hitler,” or the like. This won’t be a forum for just anything that anyone wants it to be. My blog, my rules.

And although I have had a bit less patience than Mal has (and banned about a handful of trolls here), his rules apply to GayPatriot too. So this is a memo not only to future trolls, but current ones… you know who you are.

This is my house and I will decide who I let in the door and kick out on the porch.

Thanks Mal, for articulating what I’ve tried to say here a couple of times before.

“Republican majority has earned defeat”

Posted by Average Gay Joe at 4:25 pm - April 17, 2006.

So says conservative Republican columnist George Will due to the GOP’s caving on free speech concerning 527 groups. The architect of the 1994 GOP takeover of Congress, former Speaker Newt Gingrich, warns his party that their repeated failures have made the American public “say they want change” and that his party is “in very serious danger of having a very bad election this fall”. What’s going on? In my view both Will and Gingrich are right. I for one am not amused by the performance of the GOP in Congress. While I loathe the Democrat Party and do enjoy watching them make fools of themselves and tear each other apart, I want to see some serious shaking up in the GOP as well. I for one am sick of being their pet wedge issue come election time, along with the GOP offering nothing but wedge issues and empty promises on matters of substance. It’s true the Dems are worse in my view because they’ll mouth pretty words and smile atcha, all while knifing you in the back, but that doesn’t make standing some of the Republicans any easier.

The GOP has betrayed a number of principles I happen to believe in while holding control of Congress so no, I’m not happy with them at all. I’ve had it with the attitude that GOP stands for “God’s Own Party”. Faith is very important and I do not discount it even in public life, but many Republicans have taken it to a degree I am not comfortable with at all. I’ll be posting more on the failures of the Republicans in Congress and the issues they have angered me on later this week.

Let me be clear: The Dems have not earned being in the majority, but they may get there by default and the blame will be squarely on the GOP. Although I absolutely despise the insane rhetoric and assinine antics of a number of Dems (especially their freakazoid partisans) I am very angry with the GOP, particularly in Congress, and I’m not alone. They need a lesson in humility really, really bad along with a harsh reminder not to ignore the real reasons they were put in charge in the first place. An astute political strategist would seize upon this in trying to appeal to voters like myself to get us to at least consider voting for their candidate. IOW, use that anger and make their candidate at least tolerable to those who lean the other way. We shall see if the Dems are up to the challenge.

At the moment this is where I am, checking out the opposition to see if I can stomach seeing them in the Senate for 6 years. George Allen, the Republican incumbent from my home state, is part of the status quo which has angered me so much. I know nothing of his Dem opponents Harris Miller, save that he is a former businessman, and Jim Webb has an impressive backround which I find appealing. However, he also has expressed support for DADT calling it a policy which is “working”. I’m not sure how I will vote in November yet, but Allen now has his work cut out for him to earn my vote and it’s up to the Dems to make their case why I should support Miller or Webb over Allen. Part of their problem is that they must deal with the fact that I and other GOP-leaning voters loathe the Dem Party. They will have to separate the candidate from the Party, so to speak, because many of us might be convinced to support an individual Dem while rejecting the Party. Running Bob Casey in Pennsylvania I believe was a brilliant stroke, a rarity for the Dems, which I hope is a trend. I’m skeptical enough to think they will botch it once again, mistakenly believing the assinine behavior I detest will suffice. Some of the Dems and their noxious partisans have spewed rhetoric so far beyond the pale over the past few years that quite a number of voters including myself have relished watching them go down to defeat. Yet the GOP’s incompetence, corruption, and betrayal of conservative principles have brought me to where I’m giving their candidates another look. It’s absolutely amazing to me that a Democrat governor like Bill Richardson comes across as more of a conservative on fiscal matters than the GOP Congress whose members are as bad and in some cases worse than the Dems! I want to know details about the winner of the Dem primary in Virginia on how he will vote on issues. If I’m satisfied and the guy doesn’t make me nervous, he’ll have my vote. If not, I may find something else to do come Election Day…

UPDATE (from GPW): I’m working on a post on a similar vein, something confirmed by talking to the PatriotBrothersWest here in a “red” state, a general sense that the GOP has lost its way on domestic issues. The GOP should be grateful that the Dems have become so extreme or things would look far bleaker than they do now. If the Dems can coalesce around a positive message and sideline the BDS, they could capture both houses of Congress. More on this anon.

George W. Bush – The Republican Jimmy Carter?

Posted by GayPatriot at 10:04 am - April 17, 2006.
Filed under: National Politics,Post 9-11 America

So says Dick Morris.

GEORGE W. Bush is a one- term president now serving deep into his second term. Like his father, he shot his bolt during his first four years. Unlike his dad, he was able to persuade America to keep him around for another term. But he seems destined to spend the remainder of his tenure, à la Nixon, “twisting slowly in the wind.”
Bush has truly become the Republican equivalent of President Jimmy Carter, out of control, dropping in popularity, unable to resume command. He barely skated through 2004 using the issue of terrorism. But his very success in preventing further attacks has eroded the strength of the issue and has undermined its political importance. Tax cuts, the cause celebre of his 2000 campaign, have long since been passed and yielded their economic growth. But they’re long gone as a key issue.

Yet Bush, like his father, fails to invent issues to give his presidency a new lease on life. Is he too tired or lazy to do so? Does he not believe in government doing very much in the first place? Or is he so preoccupied with Iraq – as Carter was with the hostage crisis – that he can’t divert his attention to new issues?

Discuss.

Good Monday morning. I have an admitted case of “blog burnout” that really erupted over the weekend. I’m not finding any topics that are floating my boat lately. I mean all I’m reading about is threats of nuclear holocaust from Iran, Palestinian suicide bombers (again), and gay Egg Rolls today at the White House. It is enough to make ya want to move to the Moon.

So let me open up the comments to y’all today for an Open Thread Monday.

Let me also inform you that The Party Crasher is back! Go show him some love.

Maybe by later in the week I’ll be back in the mood. By the way, there is now an Amber Alert out for Dan, Nick & John. Totally leaving me here alone. *sobbing*

Democrats Rejecting New Deal Coalition for Illegal Coalition

Posted by GayPatriot at 11:59 am - April 14, 2006.

I’ve been thinking how interesting it is that the Democrats have decided to abandon their political allegiance to the African-American community in favor of a pact with Illegal Immigrants who they see as a potential path out of their current electoral doom. They can’t win in Today’s America, so they will create Tomorrow’s America by importing votes from Mexico and Venezuela. This makes sense for the Democrats because these are voters who are already inclined to side with a socialist point of view. If Democrats can’t create the Welfare State they want here, they will import it.

So the Dems have decided to turn their backs on the cornerstone of their Liberal Coalition — American blacks who came to America by force against their will, yet became legal immigrants; instead they cast their hopes on illegal immigrants who are breaking our laws by choice.

This says a lot about the modern Democrat Party, doesn’t it? But at least they are consistent. Today’s Democrat party leaders are more likely to side with bin Laden and Saddam against their country’s President; they are more likely to find themselves siding with lawbreakers than law abiders; they are more likely to side with the courts than with the American people. So why not side with illegal immigrants versus their own African-American core base who no longer represent the growing demographics of America?

Dan at NoSpeedBumps has a similar view as PatriotPartner of this new Democrat Party Grand Alliance with Illegals: A Betrayal of the American Working Class.

On one hand, the gut response of most Democrats is to welcome Hispanic illegal workers, as Hispanic advocacy groups demand, and resist substantial new measures to stem the flow of illegal people crossing the southern border. But this directly conflicts with the interests of the core group whom Democrats have historically tried to loyally represent: The American working class. On the immigration issue, Democrats have turned their backs on their core constituency. This is the ultimate triumph of politically correct thinking, where the group declared the bigger victim always wins out in policy disputes.

For years now, Democrats should have been stridently demanding a shutdown of illegal immigration over the southern border, but they have simply been silent on this. Similarly, when employers easily hire illegal workers at bargain wages with little worries of being arrested – to the detriment of American workers – again the Democrats have been silent.

Read the whole thing! Of course the only problem with Dan’s correct analysis is that the Republican Party has sold out the middle class too unless the reject the language of amnesty and start embracing the ideals of legal immigration and secure borders.

Change of Heart on White House Easter Egg Roll

Posted by GayPatriot at 7:00 am - April 14, 2006.
Filed under: Gay America,Post 9-11 America

In my original (and only posting) on the upcoming effort to get 200 gay and lesbian families to the front of the line at Monday’s annual White House Egg Roll, I expressed this concern:

Hear me now, or hear me later… I see nothing but disaster for this effort. You and I both know which gay activists are going to show up to crash the gates. They won’t be ones America will be comfortable seeing on their nightly news. I wonder who will clean up the mess of used condoms being thrown with plastic Easter eggs? (Editor’s note: The example of used condoms was a reference to the tactics of groups like ACT-UP during their demonstrations in the 1980s)

I still have great reservations that this will have any benefit, but I think I’ve changed my mind about the intent. I have been in correspondence with the Family Pride Coalition in the past couple of days. I noticed in their original push to get gays and lesbians to line up for tickets they made the following statement: “Family Pride will be hosting a pre-Easter Egg Roll gathering on Monday morning where we will give out T-shirts to everyone participating. The T-shirts will have a non-political message about our families but will clearly identify us as LGBT parents and families.”

I thought, “yeah right.” I’ve seen enough rainbow flags at ANSWER (Communist) anti-American rallies disguised as anti-war rallies to be very skeptical. So I sent the following email:

Hello. I would like to inform my readers what precisely your T-Shirts will say. The ambiguous “non political statement” isn’t good enough. I think people who stand in line deserve to know if they will be wearing a shirt bashing the President, the US Military and/or this nation. If history of gay groups’ protests are any guide, you can understand my concern. Thanks for your prompt reply.

Someone at FamilyPride replied:

We are not handing out t-shirts for this event anymore. We decided that it would look like too much of a protest and that is not what this is about. We’ve decided to hand out rainbow-colored leis to our families as a unifying symbol instead.

So I’m willing to celebrate this idea with my original reservations still bothering me. But this does seem like a constructive way to reach out to Americans. Imagine a gay and lesbian couple connecting with a big-wig GOP contributor on the White House lawn. I’ve been at enough Republican events to know that most conservatives don’t give a crap about gay people. Perhaps I was wrong in sounding the alarm. But I am going to pay attention to what happens this Monday.

If you are in the DC area and would like more information on this event, please visit the Family Pride Coalition’s website.

**UPDATE: Boozhy actually agrees with my initial position on the Egg Roll. He is now an “uber conservative” gay. LOL**

Still, as Cybercast News Service previously reported, the organization did not endorse President Bush for re-election in 2004 because of his lack of support for same-sex marriage.

During an interview in the “Advocate,” a magazine for homosexuals, LCR President Patrick Guerriero said: “Are we first and foremost a Republican organization, or are we first and foremost a gay organization with a role to play inside the Republican Party? The board and I made a conscious decision on the second, and that has affected everything we have to do and continue to do.”

That philosophy has drawn fire from a number of conservative homosexual bloggers, including Bruce Carroll, Jr., a former Log Cabin member and founder of the Gaypatriot weblog.

“The fact is Guerriero and the Log Cabin board have sold out the very foundation of Log Cabin in order to become the new darlings of the Gay Left,” Carroll posted on his site, adding that he hopes the group “can, once and for all, put the ‘Republican’ back in Log Cabin.”

Larry Sabato, director of the University of Virginia Center for Politics, told Cybercast News Service that such conflicts are common within organizations like the Stonewall Democrats and the Log Cabin Republicans.

Sabato was more critical of the Log Cabin decision not to support Bush in 2004 since it meant no matter which candidate won the election, the group would have less access to the White House.

“That’s a mistake,” he said. “People are free to do whatever they want to do, but if you construct an election so that heads you lose and tails you lose, you probably haven’t handled things the smart way.”

*losing control and letting out wildly obnoxious guffaw*

I know Dan may have linked to this story before, but I couldn’t resist noting that Patrick, who is paid in the six digits to run this political organization, got slapped down by one of the premier political professors in the nation. And lil ol’ me, with my unpaid hobby being a snarky bastard, had my position validated by the same premier political professor.

*doing wild Snoopy dance*

(Full disclosure statement: I was contacted by Randy Hall for an interview for this story and was not available to meet his deadline. I’m also not crazy about news organizations that use the word “homosexual” instead of gay. You just know they don’t like us…..)

Martin Sheen to attend college in Ireland – via UPI

With NBC’s “The West Wing” ending its run, actor Martin Sheen is trading his TV role as U.S. president for that of a real-life Irish college student. The National University of Ireland in Galway says Sheen will study English literature, philosophy and theology with special interest in oceanography, the BBC reported Wednesday. Sheen, 65, has several honorary degrees but has been quoted as lamenting his lack of a “proper” education, the BBC said. Actress Angelica Huston is a patron of the National University of Ireland’s Huston School of film and digital media, the BBC noted.

Alec Baldwin and Robert Altman have been threatening for years to leave since the Bush 2000 election. At least President Bartlett followed through.

My only question for Hollywood Libs — what’s wrong with American universities? I thought y’all supported funding for public education here?

“The quickest way of ending a war is to lose it, and if one finds the prospect of a long war intolerable, it is natural to disbelieve in the possibility of victory.”

Black eyeliner on the guys!!

I just sat down to watch last night’s performances (on TiVO) and tonight’s results show. And as I was watching Ace and Chris from last night it was quite obvious that the makeup person went wild with the eyepen on the two chaps.

I had a feeling I wasn’t the only one who must have noticed this…. and I was right. Malcontent has the evidence!

But the laugh is on us. The results show just ended and two of the Eyelined Boys (Ace and Elliot) were there next to Bucky. But Bucky got the boot.

I just pray Chris tells the makeup person to get lost next week.
