This is one of my favorite songs and last Veterans Day I posted it. I’d like to do the same today in honor of our fallen men and women who have given the ultimate price so that we can live free in the greatest nation on Earth.
I’m just trying to be a father,
Raise a daughter and a son,
Be a lover to their mother,
Everything to everyone.
Up and at ’em bright and early,
I’m all business in my suit,
Yeah, I’m dressed for success from my head down to my boots,
I don’t do it for money, there’s still bills that I can’t pay,
I don’t do it for the glory, I just do it anyway,
Providing for our future’s my responsibility,
Yeah I’m real good under pressure, being all that I can be,
And I can’t call in sick on Mondays when the weekends been to strong,
I just work straight through the holidays,
And sometimes all night long.
You can bet that I stand ready when the wolf growls at the door,
Hey, I’m solid, hey I’m steady, hey I’m true down to the core,
And I will always do my duty, no matter what the price,
I’ve counted up the cost, I know the sacrafice,
Oh, and I don’t want to die for you,
But if dyin’s asked of me,
I’ll bear that cross with an honor,
‘Cause freedom don’t come free.
I’m an american soldier, an american,
Beside my brothers and my sisters I will proudly take a stand,
When liberty’s in jeopardy I will always do what’s right,
I’m out here on the front lines, sleep in peace tonight.
American soldier, I’m an American,
An American,
An American Soldier
Here’s a link to the video of the song by Toby Keith.
Please remember those today who have stepped up to the plate to protect us. And remember the families of those who won’t be coming home.

Right on as always, Bruce. My US flag is flying high above my house here in Houston.
And Toby Keith, besides being a hunk and great singer, is also a great American to boot. The Dixie Chicks (aka “The Three French Hens”) could take a lesson in humility from him.
Happy Memorial Day!

PS – If anyone ever goes to Las Vegas, check out Toby’s new C&W restaurant at Harrah’s on the Strip. It rocks!
Today, as in every day, proud to let Old Glory wave outside my door, but today it takes on a very special meaning. Thanks to all you brave men and women who have served and continue to serve this great nation, the United States of America!
6: Sorry, but #4 is absolutely right. We shouldn’t use Memorial Day to honor our military with one hand while with the other hand we use these men and women who often live at poverty levels to serve and protect our nation. It’s not just “bills they can’t pay”. It’s wages, living conditions, medical benefits, retirement benefits, etc. What especially irks me are the reports of the growing number of “clerical errors” which are causing wounded soldiers to become responsible for their own medical bills, especially after they lost a limb or become incapacitated in some other way in battle. It’s about time these folks were compensated accordingly and not given glad-handing on 2 holidays a year.
Crappy pay is the norm? Oh, well if it is THE NORM, then that makes it okay!
Now we find out that the Army is switching to new uniforms, but that it is making these soldiers who get “crappy pay” buy the new uniforms out of their own pockets (a cost of $200 on average). Happy Memorial Day, suckers! We remember you! Now write us a check for the special clothes you are required to wear as part of your job.
They died for our free speech, make the most of it.

Even for a screaming left-of-center, anti-military, anti-patriot, GayLeftie and Blame-America-Firster, for you to call our service men and women “suckers” is repugnant.
You should be ashamed of yourself; IF you have any self-esteem. And that’s a big “if”.
It get so difficult to follow a conversation when parts are deleted that have been refered to… so bare with me if this has been said…
When I was in the military, and the uniform was changed, the first set (or two?) were issued. It was after those that it was up to us to purchase out of our own pocket.
This would have nothing to do with the annual uniform allocation given to us on our anniversary month.
Toby Keith is a hunk?? I guess somebody has to be into bears, lol. =)
Happy Memorial Day.
