Wondering Why AOL Highlights Article on 9/11 Conspiracy Theorists
I’m trying to figure out what to make of AOL’s decision to feature on its Welcome Page, the news item, Skeptics Seek ‘9/11 Truth’. Are they doing this to show how loony some of these people are — or because they too believe that under President Bush, the government “would plan, then execute, a scheme to murder thousands of its own“? Do AOL’s editors, like these conspiracy theorists believe that “the motive for faking a terrorist attack was to allow the administration ‘to instantly implement policies its members have long supported, but which were otherwise infeasible.’“
To be sure, such gatherings of fringe figures make interesting news, so I’m guessing AOL wanted to spotlight their silliness. But, sometimes I wonder, given the bias of AOL headlines in general, if some of their editors actually believe this nonsense.
(If the AOL link doesn’t work for you, try this one.)

You mean like how Iraq had something to do with attacking America on 9/11?
[Well, some conspiracy theorists do actually believe the president said Iraq was involved in 9/11 while neither he nor any member of his Administration has said as much. --Ed.]

Most of their headlines are pretty silly and pointless. Either the topic or the discussion is trivial. Have you ever lowered yourself to go into the “Discuss this topic” area? Just pitiful.

At a boy Davy. America likes her enemies bitter and off-topic.

I’m amazed actually that you still use AOL GPW, thats *so* last century. Eek! You even use their e-mail!
You should at least setup your domain e-mail so its GPW@gaypatriot.com.
I get all mail sent to gryphmon.com regardless of who its addressed to, but I don’t think that would work on a commune-style blog like this one.
Incidentally, I’m not too suprised that AOL has a story like that. You see, the Iranian President said the same thing in his recent letter to Bush. I kept expecting someone in power, or even the MSM such as FoxNews to actually note that the Iranian President both wants nuclear weapons AND is out of his fucking skull crazy. But so far, I haven’t heard a peep.

AOL’s imbecillic and offensive treatment of 9/11 immediately after the attacks – does anyone remember the supposed child’s drawing of the weeping twin towers? – was one of the reasons, and the one that finally pushed to action, to cancel my AOL account and move on.

Popular Mechanics is not known as a radical ideological site, but they have properly debunked every allegation of the deranged skeptics. Snopes. too, dispatches this drivel.
AOL is pandering to some liberal constituency. What it might be I have no idea.

Gryph, thanks for the tip. Which reminds me I still owe you a drink you know.

Catering to the Fringe…
Speaking of the loony left, the NYT is peddling the 9/11 conspiracy theorists once again. This time, they’re providing coverage of 500 of the wackjobs gathering to peddle their theories……

GPW: “neither he nor any member of his Administration has said as much”
November 14, 2001 60 Minutes http://tinyurl.com/e6enl :
GLORIA BORGER (CBS News contributor): Well, you know that Mohammed Atta, the ringleader of the hijackers, actually met with Iraqi intelligence.
CHENEY: I know this. In Prague, in April of this year, as well as earlier. And that information has been made public. The Czechs made that public. Obviously, that’s an interesting piece of information.
December 9, 2001 on Meet the Press http://tinyurl.com/kcmss :
Tim Russert: “Do you still believe there’s no evidence that Iraq was involved in September 11?”
Dick Cheney: “Well, what we now have that’s developed since you and I last talked, Tim, of course, was that report that–it’s been pretty well confirmed that [Atta] did go to Prague and he did meet with a senior official of the Iraqi intelligence service in Czechoslovakia last April, several months before the attack.”
Atta, as we all know, was the ringleader of the 9/11 terrorists. By connecting Atta to Saddam’s intelligence service, Cheney is specifically linking Iraq to 9/11. Of ocurse, the Prague story is never actually confirmed in spite of Cheney’s claim that it had been. No wonder that in September 2003, nearly 7 in 10 Americans believed Saddam was likely involved in the 9/11 attacks.

Ian S, could that be because nearly 70% of Americans know it to be true? Ghee, less than 30% of Americans think the Downing Street Memo was true. Hmmmmmmmmm.
Nawh, I didn’t think that little brain of yours could tolerate a fact entering without simultaneously imploding.

You don’t want to get me drunk. Then I might really tell you what I think of our President.

#10: “could that be because nearly 70% of Americans know it to be true?”
But your Dear Leader himself has stated it’s NOT true. Of course, the poll was in 2003. I think a lot of folks’ eyes have been opened since then. That’s why Bush’s approval is in the toilet these days.
Comment by Ian S — June 5, 2006 @ 11:24 pm - June 5, 2006
Ian S, nice try but the dance card for just spinning on the floor is full right now.
The truth is that a significant majority of Americans do think Iraq under Saddam was involved in 9-11. Just like many think the Russians helped to asassinate Pope JPII… another truth the Left tried to discredit for years until the Bulgarians said, “OK, you caught us but the KGB made us do it”.
Bush’s approval rating has everything to do with a souring of MSM and American public opinion on the post-invasion experience in Iraq… not on anything remotely truthful.
Nice try at the spin fest, Ian S. But it’s off the dance floor for you and into the GayLeft pickle barrel. Once again, you’re caught in misdirection, lies and intellectual dishonesty. Say hello to the other GayLefties while in that pickle.

You could email them and ask them.
I’m always amused at so-called conservatives who post questions like this, but who invariably refused to go to the source.
