**SPOILER ALERT**
As mentioned below, two weeks ago PatriotPartner (John), our friends Mark and Cory and I had the privilege of being among the first to see the new Disney/Pixar movie Cars which opens today. If you have your choice to see any movie now showing in theatres, I strongly recommend Cars for children, teens and adults alike. It may well be one of the best movies I have seen in quite sometime and definitely one of the best that Pixar has made.
Cars is the story of a NASCAR speedster named Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) who gets lost on his way to a big showdown at a track in Los Angeles. He is lost both literally (his 18-wheeler ride to LA fell asleep and he rolled out the back) and metaphorically. McQueen thinks he doesn’t need a team to help him win. That he can do no wrong and that he’s a big Hollywood-esque hot shot.
Once he arrives in the town-that-the-Interstate-left-behind, Radiator Springs, he begins to realize that fame and fortune aren’t all they are cracked up to be. Friendship, loyalty, tradition and respect are among the values that Cars brings to the big screen. It is about time!
I am not afraid to admit when I’m wrong about something. This is one of those times. Last November I said, “I hope Superman Returns lives up to this trailer and helps Hollywood rediscover the America it is a part of.” They are too late. That prize without a doubt has been captured by Disney/Pixar and Cars.
The computer-graphic scenery of the American West and its love of the road is captured like never before on the big screen. I found myself longing to hop in a car and find Radiator Springs.
But most of all I long that every American finds her core values again. Those values are highlighted and celebrated in this truly American movie.
This movie has a beautiful look to it and many engaging automotive characters that you will fall in love with. But most importantly, it has a great story with meaning. That is what has been missing lately from many Hollywood flicks. It is no surprise that Disney/Pixar looked to America’s roots (NASCAR America) in order to find the voice for this film.
Four stars for me! Go see Cars this weekend!!

As an avid NASCAR fan, I can’t wait to see this one!
Pamela-
I forgot to mention how awesome the racing scenes are done!!! Thanks for reminding me. Another great reason to see CARS!!!!
It didn’t jump out at me but after your review, I’m more inclined to see it. It makes sense actually. It’s lots of the same ppl that made The Incredibles, a truly entertaining, inspiring, and downright incredible movie that was also built around traditional values.
I loved the little gay italian couple, quietly tucked into the movie as well….
