Secretary Rice Urges Respect & Sensitivity in Gay Marriage Debate

As readers of this blog now, both Bruce and I are big fans of the Secretary of State. We both agree that Condoleezza Rice is one of the president’s finest appointments, a woman whose leadership has well served his Administration, our party, our nation and the world.

A reader e-mailed me a news story which reports that she appears to agree with me on one aspect of the gay marriage debate, favoring a respectful debate:

This is an issue that can be debated and can be discussed in our country with respect for every human being. . . . When we get into difficult debates about social policy, we get into difficult debates that touch people’s lives, the only thing that I ask is that Americans do it with a kind of sensitivity that real individuals and real human beings are involved here.

Looks like she’s far ahead of the gay leadership on this one.

Secretary Rice refused to offer her opinion of the amendment, saying that it is not her “area of expertise or . . . concentration.”

Kudos, Madame Secretary, for promoting a civil debate. Let’s hope those on both sides of this important issue take heed.

AOL Gets One Right, Links Coulter to Michael Moore

In the past, I have faulted AOL for leading the News section on its Welcome Page with anti-Bush stories. Today, however, when I was logged on, I was delighted that they linked extremists from each side, Ann Coulter and Michael Moore, under the headline, “True Believers or Showoffs?”

Each has gained quite a following on his (or her) side of the political aisle. Both seemed obsessed with baiting the opposition. Neither seems particularly committed to civil discourse.

Just as the left has its nutjobs, so too do we. But, even to gay men, Ann Coulter is easier on the eyes than her left-wing counterpart.

Check out the Play, Stages, in LA!

One of the great things about living in LA is that there are a number of small theaters where you get to see some of the real talent in Hollywood, actors and actresses who moved here for the right reasons — they love their craft and hope to find a career by following their bliss. Last weekend, I had the chance to see one such talent, a friend of mine performing in her play Stages at the Hudson Mainstage Theater, 6539 Santa Monica Blvd in Hollywood, Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 PM, Sundays at 3 PM, now through July 9.

A graduate of Williams College like me, Abigail Solomon has performed on stage and screen. Last year, she had a recurring role on Day of Our Lives. Her role in Mr. & Mrs. Smith may well have helped generate some recent tabloid headlines. You see, Abby was holding a baby at the party Brad and Angelina attended in the early part of the flick. Surely, seeing the smile on this young woman’s face encouraged these lovers to have a child of their own.

This is your chance to see, on stage, in person, the actress whose convincing portrayal of a young mother inspired the latest Hollywood headlines.

Abby is even better on stage than she is on screen, showing a full range of emotions as her character balances career, friendship, romance and memories of a lost friend. The rest of the cast is similarly gifted, particularly Ryan Michelle Bath. A SAG Award nominee for Lackwanna Blues and Good Fences as well as on ER.

If like me, you enjoy good acting — and the theater — you would do well to see Stages. To those of you in LA, make sure to see this show. Click here to learn more about the play or here for tickets.

All Hail Duct Tape!

Just as there is a magazine for every interest, so too I suppose there is a festival for every interest.  It is great to be in America, no?

Duct Tape Festival – Avon, Ohio

Three times is just as charming and, for duct tape enthusiasts, just as sticky! Back for the third consecutive year, the Avon Heritage Duct Tape Festival honors the beloved fix-all known for its million and one uses.

The Festival takes place every year on Father’s Day weekend in Avon, Ohio. This year, the three-day celebration beginning Friday, June 16, 2006 encourages duct tape fanatics, artists, kids and adults to salute the American staple product. The festivities kick-off Friday at 4:00 p.m. at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Avon, Ohio, and feature everything duct tape from sculptures and crafts to fashion and games. There is even a parade where all of the floats are made almost entirely of duct tape.

The festival will take place June 16-18, 2006 in Avon, Ohio.

Yes.. seriously.

Culture of Corruption Backlash

Karl Rove will not be prosecuted…. not that I ever thought that was an option given the whole Fitzgerald investigation was a hoax executed by Joe Wilson, his non-undercover wife, and other anti-American CIA bureaucrats.

Meantime, another Kennedy pleads guilty to (stunning) driving under the influence.

The Rhode Island Democrat could face 10 days in jail if he fails to comply with a long list of court-imposed conditions, including meeting once a month with the psychiatrist overseeing his after-care treatment and attending weekly meetings of a recovery group and Alcoholics Anonymous.

You go, Nancy Pelosi… keep talking.

Nancy Pelosi(D-CA), anointed to be the next Speaker of the US House by the MSM, today announced final arrangements for the internment and burial of her Culture of Corruption(COC).

Pelosi’s COC was declared officially dead early Wednesday after several primary results failed to produce expected gains for Democrats. Cause of death was determined to be exposure to the light of day, a condition often fatal to liberal arguments, candidates and rhetoric.

Pelosi also announced that the following Democrats were directly involved in the murder of the Pelosi COC:

William J. Jefferson
Cynthia McKinney
Patrick Kennedy
John Conyers, and
Harry Reid

The NEA’s Pedophilia Sex Scandal

It struck me over the past couple weeks that this nation’s teachers union has nothing on the Catholic Church when it comes to a pedophilia problem.

Exaggerating, you say?   Hardly.

Music Teacher Accused of Having Sex With Student – San Diego, CA

Female Teacher Accused of Sex With Student – Woodland, CA

School Responds to Teacher’s Sex Charge – Concord, NC

Trust me folks, I could fill a page here with the Google News searches of “teacher sex charges”.

So why isn’t the national media making a big deal of the National Education Association’s sex scandal problem as much as they have about the Catholic Church’s??

I think perhaps a parent should sue the NEA for damages related to sexual abuse of their son or daughter just as people have gone after the Catholic archdioceses.

Food for thought.

Hating Bush Means Never Having to Prove Your Point

Just as some crazy conservatives confidently predicted Hillary’s imminent indictment in the 1990s, up until today, Bush-haters were salivating at the approaching indictment of their bête noire, Karl Rove. Today, those angry leftists are gnashing their teeth. They were all convinced that because they so hated Karl Rove, he had to have committed a crime.

They pinned their hopes of the legend of Fitzmas, that Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald would indict this top advisor to President George W. Bush, the man they really, really, really hated. As we learned yesterday, that will not come to pass. Karl Rove is not the crook they made him out to be.

Lacking evidence of a Republican’s crimes, however, has yet to stop these leftists from imagining the worst of their ideological adversaries. All over LA, I continue to see bumper stickers accusing the president of lying. And although three major investigations have yet to produce a single scrap of evidence that he deceived the American people (and the world) in the run-up to the liberation of Iraq, allegations of the president’s dishonesty remain an article of faith for Bush-haters.

When you talk to some of these left-wingers, they sound just like their bumper stickers, repeating the mantra that “Bush Lied.” When confronted with with facts, they don’t respond with arguments, but with angry accusations against the president and his team (and even against the president’s defenders). They don’t “need” any evidence to back up their claims. They just know the president’s dishonest.

One such smug individual is former CBS News Producer Mary Mapes. She continues to attack the conservative bloggers who questioned the authenticity of the documents she used in her 60 Minutes II report alleging that then-Lt. George W. Bush shirked his National Guard Service.

Alleging that there “never has been any definitive proof that they [the documents ] were forged or falsified in any way,” she attempts to change the focus of the story. (Via Best of the Web.) Those bloggers — and experts in the authentication of documents — made a solid case that they were forgeries. And she failed to rebut the evidence they provided.
