Regarding 'Chickenhawk': Are libs who support the war in Afghanistan (as many claim to do) but don't fight themselves also Chickenhawks?

And back on the main point, I'm reminded of Randy Shilts book And the Band Played On about how when they tried to shut down the bath houses during the AIDS epidemic, the gay activists all screamed, 'You can't do this to us, this is our culture' or words to that effect. And that those who suggested closing the bath houses were vilified by the gay activist community. I wonder how many people died as a result.

LOL....and under what names have you previously tried to go, Hayden, so we can check your claims?

Meanwhile, if you believe I never criticize Bush, you are a fool, as I shall demonstrate.

I think that in and of itself speaks volumes for the accuracy of your claims.

Leftists like you don't want "dialogue"; you merely want reinforcement of your anti-Bush hatreds, rational or not.

Just FYI, my post was inspired by this absurd rant.

OK well there you have it. Don’t I feel stupid. How could I have possibly missed the obvious. The Republican party has been fighting valiantly for the rights of gays and lesbians and would have accomplished their goals if it hadn’t been for those damned, gay hating democratic heathens. Never mind the politician behind the green curtain who claims that we are a threat to the family, to God, to America and to the human race. I stand rebuked. I will hereafter vote a straight GOP ticket regardless of the stated positions of the candidate.

I suggest you just vote for the best candidate regardless of the letters by their names and don't base it strictly on a pet issue. That's what I do.

When will the gay left get it? Politicians will support our issues to the extent that there is public support. When the public supports our issues, the politicians in power will also so they can get re-elected. Do you not see the little game all politicians play whereby they do just enough to get the support of some special interest group but not too much to turn off the middle? Some Republicans (not all) try to pass an amendment against gay marriage. Do Democrats come out in support of gay marriage? Of course not! They're against gay marriage too but suddenly support STATE'S RIGHTS. I call BULLSHIT! They're doing just enough to distinguish themselves so you guys will come running to their defense, the lap dogs that you are. Meanwhile, the local stuff that actually passed, did so because it had public support-- not because some gay people voted for Bush.

So ok, Dems are marginally better on gay stuff in practicality and very good on gay issues in rhetoric. I admit it. I'm sure it's very good for your fragile ego when Democrats talk nice about gays. How much are you willing to sacrifice for your pet issue? You could disagree with a politician on everything but gay rights, but that one issue would secure your support. I call that bad judgement and selfishness at best and at worst, an unhealthy obsession resulting from some personal trauma.

ND30, as is so often the case, you are delusional. I never, not once mentioned President Bush. I constantly chastise Democrats and Liberals for their hypocrisy and moonbattyness. Why do you ALWAYS go for the anti-Bush card any time anyone questions anything that a Republican does. You bitch and moan ad infinitum about liberals who don't confront anti-gay democrats but I have NEVER heard you chastise a Republican for ANYTHING, except for any Republican that has the audacity to question the President. I have never seen anyone whine about other people whining as much as you do pal.

Do I think Clinton was a draft dodger. Hell yes, and I've said so countless times. I also think (get ready for it ND30, here comes your "he hate's Bush!" boo hoo ammunition) Bush was a draft dodger! I would be willing to bet that you would be one too, if ever confronted with a draft notice. Just like most chicken hawks you love war, as long as you can fight it from the comfort of your easy chair and as long as it doesn't in any inconvenience you in any way. You sir are a loud mouthed coward.

So much for dialogue. It took about two minutes for the ad hominem napalm to start flying.

I am very familiar with ND30 and the futility of trying to reason with him once he incorrectly convinces himself that you hate our faultless, man-god President (Blessed be His name, peace be upon Him). Mao Tse Tung would have loved this kind of devotion. No matter what you say thereafter he will shriek, “BLASPHEMY!” “HERESY” “Burn him at the stake!”

With that being said, I will leave you with the wise Proverbs 14:7

"Turn and walk away from a fool, for the truth will not be found on his lips."

He's a sex addict, like any addict, he needs help not scorn.

When you jeopardize your life, your career and your relationship for sex, it is clearly an addiction. There were many times he was photographed passed out on weed in his car in the park, in between his arrest and this episode.

His album Listen Without Prejudice Vol 2 was so full of raw emotion and pain, it helped me come to terms with my own self way back then. Because of that, I will always appreciate and love him.

I hope he gets help and I will always care for him. As for role models, what Leftists specifically labeled him a role model? Why is this article about one man's addictive behavior become mostly a slam against the Left?

Remember when Kobe Bryant was on trial for rape and people were all upset about their role model? Just because someone's career is in front of the camera, whether gay or straight, doesn't mean they are automatically a role model.

I'm on the Left and I never teach my children that singers, athletes or even Jim McGreevey are role models. Do gay publications say these people are role models? I don't know, but so what if they do, this family wouldn't be anymore swayed by that than if People Magazine or the National Enquirer told us who role models are. Straight or gay, left or right has nothing to do with it. That's not how we find our role models and 99% of us understand that.

I think this really was Hayden's point:

Never mind the politician behind the green curtain who claims that we are a threat to the family, to God, to America and to the human race.

These complete anti-Bush bigots are such a barrel of laughs.

Notice how they never criticize Democratic politicians who say the same things about gays -- mainly because said politicians claim to "like" gays.

Notice how they never comment on Democrats' plans to triple "pork barrel spending, states' rights usurping, executive power grabbing", or the business-punishing, welfare-wasting, religion-banning, military-gutting activities that are blatantly laid out for all the world to see.

And of course, then they try the "I'm a veteran" schtick, as if doing so was some kind of trump card -- after eight years of telling us that a draft-dodging anti-military protestor's past had no bearing on his fitness to be Commander in Chief of the armed forces.

Don't come bearing gifts of pretend bipartisanship when all you have is anti-Bush hatred, Hayden. Your type have made it pretty obvious by now that they'll do, say, or support anything as long as it's anti-Bush.

they’ve literally thrown out compromises for civil unions so that the GayLeft can have heated debates, shouting matches, fundraising advocacy, and continue to stoke the fires of radical activism inside our gay community.

Yes, compromises for civil unions have been thrown out. I believe the Mass. Supreme Court had it right when one of the justices said that separate has rarely been proven equal. Now, if states gave recognition to civil unions for gays and straights as in Europe, that'd be pretty equal.

I remember a portion of my training where I work in which I learned it is effective to comment on specific behaviors and the results thereof. I know that gay and lesbian liberals have been very cruel and have shown a lack of compassion for gay and lesbian conservatives, and I hope that I can make a difference there.

And as for you Weeping Wandas out there who are so outraged over George's "privacy violations," where were you when others have had their personal lives brought to the public's attention, like Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, William Bennett et al?

Or is it simply a matter of who is getting caught and what their political persuasion is? If that is the case, then you are just as guilty as hypocrisy as anyone else.

Regards,
Peter H.

Gee, I remember George singing about "looking for fast love" a few years back, and he seems to have found it! Or it found him...in the form of an elderly overweight truck driver. Oh, the irony.

George, honey, quit scraping the bottom of the barrel and pay someone for their time, please! Not like you don't have the money to do it...

Where is Vera Charles when you need her wit and wisdom??

Thanks for setting me "straight" guys. Sorry for taking the ole "Big Tent" lie so seriously.

Save me your pork barrel spending, states right's usurping, executive power grabbing, corporate wellfare promoting, Constitution tinkering, church and state mixing, chicken-hawk brand of "conservatism". I have been a conservative since before your hero Ronald Reagan redefined the term.

I'm also a Gulf War veteran who spent 12 years in the United States Marine Corps. How many of you chicken-hawks here can say the same? Frankly I think most of you here live in a fantasy world where war is an entertaining video game and Republicans welcome you with open arms. I choose to live in the real world.

Thanks for setting me “straight” guys. Sorry for taking the ole “Big Tent” lie so seriously.

"To insinuate that people on the left are immoral, unethical... is ignorant, misleading..."

OK then - Name me one who isn't.

I could name you one: Joe Lieberman.

But, oopsie, he's in the process of being driven out of the Democratic Party as we speak.

I also have to point out that the policies favored by the Left - socialism, welfare dependency, Big Government, redistributive taxation, the destruction of personal independence and the little guy, and others - are per se immoral.

You would be right to point out that many of today's Republicans, unfortunately, support similar domestic policies. I find them only marginally more moral than the Democrats.

(Republicans, at least for the moment, are somewhat more moral in foreign policy; Dean - Kerry - Murtha - Pelosi policies of trying to appease terrorists and dictators are per se immoral.)

One of life's great questions, for me anyway, is: Can a typical person support things that are immoral, and still be rightly viewed as moral? In what sense of the words?

Lots of people mean well, and are simply mistaken, misled, etc., on a great many things. The thornier question is: people who have been exposed to alternative (good) information and who are simply too lazy to think about it, or to change, or to stand against the crowd.

Hayden, it's not only possible but it's done by people like me every day, a hundred ways. The problem arises when the GayLeft --as it has for the last 25 years-- considers itself to be the ONLY voice of gays in America... as it still does, day in and day out, in a hundred ways.

It's been a long discussion to even get to the point where GayLeft actors acknowledge there MIGHT BE --just might be, mind you-- someone who doesn't march with them on the Democrat Plantation. I know the George Michael story roped ya in... but check out some of the other posts about intolerance from the GayLeft leadership... about partisan hacks beholden to the DNC who are willing to throw their gaybrethen under the trainwheels in order to score political points.

The GayLeft isn't moral. They've taken our cause into the depth of the victimhood constituencies of the Democrat Party... they've used our identity to gain political access and then failed to hold those they've helped to account (Kerry, Edwards, Dean, et al). We've lost race after bloody race in the states to defeat anti-gay marriage inititiatives... they've literally thrown out compromises for civil unions so that the GayLeft can have heated debates, shouting matches, fundraising advocacy, and continue to stoke the fires of radical activism inside our gay community.

The leaders of the GayLeft --hardcore, radical zealots-- routinely cut-off from input anyone who doesn't court their worldview of all gays gathered around the Democrat Plantation fire singing camp songs. The GayLeft isn't moral --just ask any crackhead at a Circuit Party... ask any NAMBLA volunteer at the next "Porn as Literature" conference... ask any CodePink enthusiast while she burns the US flag and honors MommaSheehan and spits on our troops.

No Hayden, the GayLeft is immoral; like SlickWilly, it just has a problem with definitions. The GayLeft wouldn't know "moral" unless it came up behind them and bite 'em on the ass... and then they'll think it's a dating opportunity... or they slipped into a Pride Parade.

Right Hayden... your wish is a lot like those on the Left these days who just "pray for peace" in the MiddleEast --which means: please stop killing all our fellow terrorists now that the moral players have an upper hand and the bigger gun.

I'd like to say one more thing. I have MANY friends who would call themselves part of the "Gayleft". They are ALL very moral and very ethical. They are just as disgusted by George Michael’s actions as we are. One's political affiliation is no indication of their morality or "family values". Republicans and Democrats have shown themselves to be equally immoral and equally moral. To insinuate that people on the left are immoral, unethical or lack "values" is ignorant, misleading and inflammatory. I don't like ignorant and misinformed arguments from conservatives any more than I do from liberals. It’s interesting how many people hate to be stereotyped as a gay person but resort to every offensive stereotype known when attacking political adversaries on the left or the right.

Maybe if all you know are immoral, sex and drug addicted liberals then you should reconsider who you hang out with. I am a proud conservative who hangs out with people who share my values. Ironically most of them do not identify as conservatives. We talk, and argue, agree and disagree but we NEVER disrespect each other.

I wish more of us, on both sides of the political fence, could talk WITH and not AT each other. Believe it or not it is possible.

Yeah, Michigan Matt, George Michael is a prick for blaming his escapade on gay culture. Blaming the left is no better. No, not all of us do our part to have civilized debate on issues that affect the community. But, I wonder how stable my hiv positive partner's condition would be if the left hadn't been as vocal as it was in the advent of AIDS...

Each side makes a significant contribution to the cause; we just have to do it together and in a manner that is indicative of dignity.

Oh, I just found out that my partner and I may be godparents to twins of a straigth married couple we're friends with. That sounds pretty tame compared to Mr. Michael.

gaypatriot, I am a frequent visitor to your site, and though (or more accurately because of the fact that) I consider myself to be conservative, I seldom agree with your opinions. Today would be the rare exception. I agree 100% with your latest commentary. When I read the account of George Michael’s latest adventure into shame, I was both disgusted and offended. As a human I was disgusted. As a gay man I was offended.

To George Michael and others who would define the greater gay community by their drug abuse and sexual deviations, obsessions and addictions I say, “Shut the hell up already!” You don't speak for me or any of my gay friends. We don't define ourselves by our sexual orientation and we don't relate to your disgusting, degrading, demeaning and warped understanding of what it means to have a homosexual orientation. We certainly don’t feel compelled to behave in the selfish and shameful way that you do. To most of us Gay does not equate with shame and a lack of self control.

It's so hard to convince my neighbors and co-workers that gay people are moral and want the same things from life that they do, when we have idiots like George Michael in the news, on a near daily basis, acting a fool and claiming that his bad behavior is normal in the “gay world”. He is not only NOT a typical gay man, he's not even a good spokesmodel for sexual deviants. Most sex addicts that I've come across have much better taste than George Michael seems to have.

Let me say that I am a libertarian, and as such, I totally condemn the invasion of Mr. Michael’s privacy, even if he was misbehaving in a public area. I disagree whole heartedly with George’s illegal and shameful behavior, but I also find the actions of the paparazzi to be improper and disgusting. This was done for sensationalist headlines to make the tabloid lots of money and not because the public had a right to know.

I’m not even gay, but isn’t this the same thing as Hugh Grant boffing street hookers in cars even as he was dating Liz Hurley. The guy must like the danger of possibly being caught.

In behavior-I would argue there is little difference-trolling for sex among hookers or trolling for sex in the bushes-pretty much the same in regards to choices (and I admit here that I don't understand at all the need or desire for sex in bushes, bathrooms, cars etc with all but total strangers-gay, straight, or whatever, and I had enough friends in college leave bars with guys they didn't know to realize it isn't something unique to gays).

I think the difference is that you don't see Hugh, Sheen or any other hetero caught in the act defending the action as being part of his culture. They may defend the act on a "I wasn't hurting anyone" type basis, but none of them acts as if sex in the bushes or sex with hookers is somehow an accepted part of heterosexual culture.
