I am actually beginning to think that Newt Gingrich’s visionary way is again having an impact. I’m noticing more and more people talking about “World War III” the past few days in a way they had not before Newt began using that term on the Fox News Channel a couple weeks ago.
A new war blog — Chronicles of War — has debuted at The Houston Chronicle. Blogs of War creator John Little is the Chron’s newest blogger covering World War III.
I finally got my face in the hometown paper. Well, its web site at least. I didn’t even have to embezzle city funds, lead cops on a three hour chase, or plow my SUV into METRO’s light rail. My family should be proud.
Thanks to an invitation from blog/media/tech guru Dwight Silverman, I’ll also be blogging the war at the Houston Chronicle. Chronicles of War will cover the same topics you see here at Blogs of War but with a little more depth.

The Newster may have more flash, but I think Norman Podhoretz got it right when he argued that the Global War on Terror (GWOT) was World War IV with the Cold War being World War III. When Newt says WWIII, lots of people immediately start thinking of WWII: fire bombing, massive mobilization, rationing, etc. The GWOT is more like the Cold War; it will be fought with intelligence and in relatively small theaters rather than with massive armies across whole continents. WWII was tanks, WWIII was Korea and Vietnam and “Tear down this wall,” WWIV will be urban warfare and beating Islamist propaganda with the truth.
