Time after time after time, the wise sages here at GayPatriot (authors and rational commenters as well) have explained that the way to America’s heart is not by forcing gay marriage down their throats through the court system. It is by patiently educating Mainstream America and by going through the legislative process. Our illustrious gay “rights” leaders haven’t paid attention….. until now.
It appears Satan is cutting ice cubes today.
For Gays, New Math – US News & World Report (h/t – Ann Althouse at Instapundit)
“No more lawsuits, no more state amendments.” Matt Foreman of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force acknowledges, “Our legal strategies got ahead of our political strategies.”
No shit, Sherlock! You will have to excuse Matt… he is still living in a world where he admires socialism, hates capitalism and calls American democracy “immoral”.
For advocates of same-sex marriage, the outlook is dark, that early enthusiasm tempered by a wave of anti-gay-marriage voter initiatives and a string of courtroom losses. And more court decisions and initiatives expected this year could result in devastating setbacks. “We may face a reality by the end of this year that is so radically different … that we may have to completely rethink and rework how we’re going to move forward,” says Ed Murray, a gay Washington State representative. Jordan Lorence of the conservative Alliance Defense Fund is more blunt: “One side is clearly prevailing, and one is losing.”
Hey Matt, Patrick, Cheryl, Joe “Abortion”, et al. — Tanks for wasting four freaking years and millions of our hard-earned and donated dollars. You should have used your damn common sense and talked to people outside your Blue State Gay Bubble.
Gosh…. what idiots!

Anyway, for the umpteenth time… I have proven my abilities to predict the future. I do think I have a better record of prognostication than Rush Limbaugh at this point!
-Bruce (GayPatriot)
You have no clue as to how social movements really play out–all you have is an ad for Santorum next to the post where you compare yourself with Rush Limbaugh.
VOTE SANTORUM!!!! And never get any on your sheets again….
You’re right but I think that the change is as much about fundraising as any sudden insight. Since practially all of the lawsuits have failed and most states have passed anti-gay marriage laws/amendments, the old buttons have been pushed to death and new fundraising strategies must be put in place. New legislative based appeals will distract from the disaster that has occured during the sue and lose phase. It will be interesting to see if the amount of money raised by this less sexy track will decline.
A little more from the article in US News
“[N]obody’s swept up anymore,” says [Seattle gay-rights advocate Lisa] Stone… A group of nearly 250 gay-rights supporters recently urged less focus on marriage, saying it “has left us isolated and vulnerable to a virulent backlash.” Legislative victories could avoid that backlash. “The politics is driven by the lawsuits,” says Matt Daniels of Alliance for Marriage, which opposes gay marriage. “No more lawsuits, no more state amendments.”
How about that slogan for the new HRC fundraising appeal.
Well whaddayaknow, Matt Foreman finally sees the light! I just hope it’s not too late to have a discussion with the American people on this. After being labelled by the gay left as narrow-minded bigots who just won’t listen, darn it, I hope ordinary folks have the gumption to listen to level-headed gays. Sure, it’s not as sexy & a helluva lot more work. But, trust me, acheiving gay marriage through the legislative process & when American society is ready will be reaping dividends for years to come.
Regarding the post…
That’s sweet. You want to lambast Matt Foreman and his National Gay & Lesbian (& Whatever) Task Force for something that a completely unrelated organization, the New England based GLAD (Gay and Lesbian Advocates and Defenders) not to be confused with the more national GLAAD organization, did in bringing the same-sex marriage lawsuit here in Massachusetts.
I find it somewhat odd, but I had believed that conservatives believed in personal responsibility. If that were really the case–that is, if conservatives were really interested in personal responsibility, it strikes me that you wouldn’t be lambasting Foreman and his NGLTF organization for something that GLAD did–although, it should be noted–the fact is that GLAD prevailed for its clients here in Massachusetts. It isn’t GLAD’s fault that Michigan, etc., enacted state constitutional amendments to bash gay people. If gay people in Michigan, etc., got off their rear ends, those constitutional might have been defeated. Doubtful.
But I fully understand where you’re coming from. You just want to b&m (bitch&moan) against the “gay left.” Kinda like Stevie Miller at indegayforum.
Awww… its okay, Rajie… I understand you are verklempt.

Re ##6 & 7, this is funny. The proprietors here are upset about the fact that I had corrected them about their misuse of German grammar. Ok.
Maybe you called them a cartoon bear like you did me. You are so mean RajIan!!!!
Bruce, it is late in coming from the GayLeft leadership and it should be welcomed tentatively, verified when we see a change in their conduct, then applauded at some point if it is indeed sincere and not just more spin.
In Michigan, two years ago, we could have used any support of any kind from the various national GayLeft groups… we could have used help from regional GayLeft groups like the Triangle Foundation and others but those folks were more intent on putting their energy into making money through lawsuits after passage –ala the ACLU, Natural Resources Defense Council –they knew how to butter their toast.
The worst of the experience here was having to generate support from our own –mostly Left– gay community in Michigan urban areas. I’ve never met more apathetic, disgruntled, disconnected and unmotivated segment of the populace in my life… they rivaled crack mommas living in the shelter. Go to the westside of the state as we did and talk with suburban and conservative gay voters –who were already registered and knew how to vote and wanted to help– it was a stark difference.
Plus we even had Democrats in state govt BEFORE the battle began adding uber-inclusive language to the initiative in the misbegotten notion that it would draw towns, universities and business into opposing the Defense of Marriage Act initiative in order to protect domestic partner benefits. Guess what, it didn’t work.
Great for the post-passage lawsuits; but even that approach has failed miserably 2+ years after passage. Our Governor could act to restore domestic partner benefits but WON’T for fear of losing office in this election year… sounds like JohnFKerry “I’m for the gays.”
And we’re stuck with the amendment –to the Constitution– a stone wall to overturn IF we could reverse years of social, political and PR abuse from the GayLeft. IF –and that’s a big IF. That stupid strategy that lead to 11 states in Nov 04 passing their won DOMAs was the brainchild of the GayLeft in DC –the in-your-face on all things gay like marriage, military service, adoption, special programs in the schools, special treatment for prisoners, local library access to porn and chatrooms, etc.
We’ll be paying for it for years. Thank you GayLeft.
PS> And to prove how the Democrats keep the GayLeft on the Plantation, blinders fitting snuggly, take a look at this ridiculous spin from a Granholm-GayLeft Apologist working curbside at the carnival tents….
http://gaylife.about.com/od/samesexmarriag1/a/granholm.htm
As I’ve pointed out many, many times, if you look at the context, he said nothing of the sort. Folk if you want to see GP “spin” this is one of multitudinous examples.
Besides Bruce, you are overlooking one little fact. The American Democracy is immoral in some ways. Just because its 20 times better than the alternative doesn’t mean Democracy is perfect. Not when it involves imperfect people.
For example, in our system there is always going to be winners and losers. That doesn’t mean the losers are wrong. The majority is not only capable of acting immorally, I would say that it is often more likely to do so. As in the case of Slavery and other crimes committed toward other various “losers” in our nation’s history. American Democracy certainly has acted immorally to them.
For someone that call himself a “gay patriot” Bruce doesn’t seem to have even a basic grasp of democratic principles. Or he’s ignoring them in favor of spinning out a story to mean what he wants it to mean.
#10 Ditto to what you said here in Texas. Regarding the article that you linked to, I think that it translates to “if it’s inevitable, just lay back and try to enjoy it”.
That’s a really scary picture.
The American Democracy is immoral in some ways. Just because its 20 times better than the alternative doesn’t mean Democracy is perfect.
Mainly because human beings are imperfect.
However, the question remains which principle you prefer: to put supreme power in the hands of the electorate or, like the GayLeft and whacko right, to put it in the hands of an oligarchy imposing its will on the public.
BoBo and RWP, it is a scary picture –if you recap the article, it’s the tired and put-upon Granholm (D-Mich) trying to do what’s right for the preservation of domestic partnership benefits for state workers (including colleges, universities and cities) but she just can’t seem to do it because there’s too much legal dust hanging in the air… what she doesn’t offer is that “dust” is created by radical GayLeft groups fighting the amendment in the Courts instead of at the ballot box.
“Oh. Oh. Ummm, I’ll do something when it’s politically convenient” says the Governor. And the sell-out journalist from the GayLeft doesn’t even bat an eye or hold her to account for the good of the community.
She could do what’s right this instant. By Executive Order, the Governor could do what is needed to help domestic partners caught in the limbo world of benefits extended, benefits denied. She just won’t do it for the gay community.
If we were the black community, good ole Governor Granholm would have her lapdog lobbyist Debbie Dingell in there swinging for affirmative action. But, alas, the polling is more positive for that group’s efforts so the blacks get the help, we just suffer. Does anyone need more proof the Democrats rule by polls? What a rotten way to govern.
Frankly this is all irrelevant to me now anyways. These activists allied themselves with pro-choice and anti-war groups, attempting to make the absurd claim they were all connected. Given that I am morally opposed to the former (especially when “choice” is forced upon me) and repulsed by the latter, I’m left with voting for candidates who though they may oppose some of my own self-interests will at least do a far better job of helping the next generation to at least breathe. They can screw up everything else but no one will get my vote whom I believe will not keep my family safe. Period.
yes, as African Americans discovered after the civil war and up until the civil rights act, equal protection under the law appears to mean dick in this country. Interestingly enough, they had to fight to get “special protections” laws, which conservatives generally revile and use the old ‘quota’ mantra. just has all the white males quaking in their boots.

She [Grenholm] could do what’s right this instant. By Executive Order, the Governor could do what is needed to help domestic partners caught in the limbo world of benefits extended, benefits denied. She just won’t do it for the gay community.
She could have done that by executive order? That’s interesting.
I have only been cursorily following your problems in Michigan. We have our benefits here in MA: as my partner’s spouse, I am covered his MA state medical insurance policy, so your problems in MI are of only cursory interest to me. I had been led to believe that a MI state court had held that, based on the recently passed state constitutional amendment had precluded state institutions from extending domestic partner (DP) benefits to domestic partners of same-sex couples–or to domestic partners of non-married opposite sex couples, for that matter.
If that’s the case, what would be the basis for Grenholm to extend DP benefits, when it’s precluded by law? An executive–the president, a governor–can use executive orders to organize the executive branch of their respective governors, provided they are authorized or do not contravene federal or state law, but what would be the basis for Grenholm issuing an executive order that apparently contravenes state law?
raj, you aren’t worthy of debate or discussion.
And get the woman’s name right… it isn’t “Grenholm”.
It’s Granholm.
Go pontificate on another blog where they haven’t uncovered your game.

!thanks for the spelling lesson. I’ll take that into account when next I cast a ballot in Michigan.
right, along with the illegal immigrants your side will allow to vote, the convicted felons your side will allow to vote, the dead people living in Chicago and Detroit graveyards your side will allow to vote, all the UnionHallGoon bingo players your side will allow to vote two, three, four times, etc.
RE: Comment #20….
Is Michigan a part of Germany???
Bruce, I think raj was implying that he’s part of that vast legion of Democrat Party grassrooters who travel the country and provide voter fraud services for the good of the Party… “We vote for those who can’t”.
I’ve run into lots of those lawyer types here in Michigan at the polls during Vote Integrity Programs at election time. The lawyers are usually either from the ACLU, the Union Hall, the MEA, or some other anti-democratic partisan hack command central group who think voter integrity is limiting fraud to just those who died in the last generation.
It is fundamentally amazing how much voter fraud occurs in Michigan and we still can’t get it out of the system.
Of course you can’t, Matt. That’s because people like Raj think it’s against the law to enforce the requirements that a) only citizens can vote, b) only living people can vote, and c) only people who can demonstrate residency in a given area can vote in it.
If this country ever passed a law requiring voters to show ID and entered the ID used on the ballot or record, the Democrats would spin completely out of power.
NDXXX, but would they turn in their tin foil hats?
That would be worth it to press for a statewide petition drive in Michigan to force voter accountability –residents only, force local clerks to update registration lists within 60 days of an election, picture ID, printed receipt of voter choices with a running tally of votes… “You’re voter #143 at this precint. You voted the following: a) yes, b) yes, c) no; Smith, Johnson, Eakins, Winkleman.”
Hell, reality TV has better technology that we have for voting. It’s obscene.
