Welcome Back, Nashville Star!

January 11, 2007 by GayPatriot

If you are looking for a very good alternative to American Idol or Grease: You’re The One That I Want and if you think that E.R. jumped the shark a few years ago… tune into the USA Network on Thursday nights at 10PM Eastern for NASHVILLE STAR!

The 5th season of Nashville Star began tonight with ten uber-talented country music singers.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m a big fan of Idol… but there is more natural singing and performing talent in the ten Nashville Star singers than most of the American Idol wannabees combined.

Two of my early favorites based on the first show…

Angela Hacker – a Mom chasing her life-long dream after working hard to support her young boy.  She has a great voice and reminds me of Bonnie Raitt but with a softer and more intense emotion.

David St. Romain – a fellow Louisanian!  I thought David was the best male performer tonight and had the most mature singing voice, despite his baby face.  Outstanding.

An honorable mention for first impressions goes to Dustin Wilkes – former US Marine.  Think the looks of Keith Anderson combined with Billy Currington and the heart and soul of Darrell Worley.

A great first show this season.

I haven’t seen it, but who is that Cowboy Curtis guy or whatever his name is?

    Cowboy Troy, TGC!

His album is pretty interesting. I listen mostly to country myself, but his album is a unique mix. I’d call it maybe rap with a country infusion.

Bruce, I agree…Nashville Star is great. I’ve got albums from a couple of people who have appeared on the show (notably the first winner, Buddy Jewel, whose album is excellent). I second your recommendation.

Cowboy Troy teamed up with Big & Rich for ESPN’s College Game Day opening segment. He is the most innovative C&W star since Charley Pride.

Peter, not sure if you’re aware, but Big & Rich are featured prominently on Cowboy Troy’s album as well. They apparently do quite a lot of work together. I’d have to agree with your assessment.

Nope, Mike, wasn’t aware on their collaboration. Thanks for the heads-up.

I’ve been away from country for a long time. Used to listen to it a lot, but it’s been a few years. I had no idea who Cowboy Troy is. Thought it was some joke or something. No idea who Big & Rich are. I know the name, but that’s about it.

Oh yeah. Cowboy Curtis was Lawrence Fishburne.

Just my $0.02 – I still think that Clay Walker is the hottest man in C&W today. The first runner-up is Kenny Chesney.

    Regards,
    Peter H.

I think Nashville Star captures a huge male spectrum on this show, and in the audience alike.

First you have Billy Ray Cyrus–who’s made such an awesome comeback and is a great Dad promoting conservative values (seen especially with how his daughter Miley handles herself in the spotlight). Then, there’s accalimed singer-songwriter and producer John Rich who’s just awesome and such a man. Talented, good-looking, and really takes charge when it comes to judging. He’s great–not a jerk like Simon Cowell, but definitely commands the audiences and contestants with his well-thought-out comments. Finally, there’s Jeffery Steele (BMI Songwriter of the Year 2006!), who has such a unique experience in the music world and has become such an industry heavyweight.

Don’t forget to tune into the premiere this Monday on NBC at 9:00!

Ok so im just excited that Taylor Swift is going to be performing at the premiere of Nashville Star! That girl has so much talent and she just seems so humble and down to earth.

I think the show got moved to NBC, so this should definetly be interesting!
