24 RETURNS!

January 14, 2007 by GayPatriot

It is really going to be tough to manage a lot of good TV coming up (American Idol, Rome on HBO, House, Nashville Star, etc., etc.).  I honestly think for the past few years the “second” TV season is better than the fall lineup.

But tonight, it is the mother of all good TV shows.

I used to watch this show, but a few years ago, they had a gay character on the show who was the son of the defense secretary, or something like that, and he unknowingly picked up a terrorist for a one night stand. He kept quiet about it until he was tortured by his father. He was presented as selfish, weak, and a shameful failure as a son. That this is the only gay male character they had in all their seasons, and that they chose to write him that way, told me more about the show’s creators than I wanted to know.

    Carl-

How DO you survive in life every day, if being gay is the only filter you use??

Dear heavens….. get out and find a hobby that isn’t gay.

Love the show. There was another gay character on the last season, the assistant to Karen hayes. Just like straight people gays can be good, bad or indifferent. I don’t subscribe to the notion that all the portrayals of gays should be sunshine bright.
I agree the real tv season has just begun. I love me some Atia.

#4 – Touche. But my whole message is that my world doesn’t revolve about my being gay. It is a factor, but not the end all and be all.

#5 – Yes, my DVR is set to overtime with ROME! Awesome show. I’m nto sure I was able to watch it in Hi Def its 1st season.

Loved the whole homage to Lost Boys last night!

Then why are you called GayPatriot? My name isn’t GayCarl. Why are most of the issues here gay-related issues?

If a show like Queer as Folk had only 1 straight character, and that character was weak, amoral, loathsome, then I’m sure that some straight people would be very put off, and some gay people would feel the same way.

If a show only has 1 gay character, and that character is weak and enables terrorists, then yeah, it bothers me. I know the people who do this show are conservative, and I think one of them donated to Santorum, but even that wasn’t as much as that horrible episode with William Devane’s son. When that’s the spotlight they try to shine on gays, then it felt like they were trying to send a message about gay men.

If, as a gay man, that doesn’t bother you, that’s your choice, but please don’t mock other people for caring.

(continued) Right now, the front page is showing me 17 articles. Exactly 3 are about a gay issue. In other words, less than 20%.

A matter of opinion. I’m pretty sure of the opposite. (Few, if any straight people would care; most would look askance at a straight person who did care.)

GP, I made a comment about why I stopped watching the show. You seemed to be upset about that, not me. You seemed to think that my talking about why I stopped watching the show equaled not being able to survive in life.

    -Right now,-

Right now, yes. But many of the posts here are related to gay issues, as are many of the links on the left side of the page.

    -A matter of opinion-

All of this is a matter of opinion. The problem is that some people got upset because of my opinion about 24.

And I’ll also say that if my comment about “24” offended anyone, I apologize. I suppose with all the problems out there now, I didn’t think my saying why I no longer watched the show would upset anyone. I shouldn’t have said anything. I’ll just lurk from now on.

“Upset”? Carl, no offense intended, but you’re not so important. I just like discussing stuff, if I have the time.

Bruce – with the 4 hours over – I found 24 more PC-ish than I would have expected (based on your liking it). There seems to be a huge amount of ACLU- and CAIR-rehabilitating in the hours I saw.

Also I thought I detected that whole Democrat premise that terrorism is about this or that evil and powerful individual who controls all the other terrorists, and if only we went in with the right police action (or hadn’t pissed them off with the wrong action 20 years ago), all would be well.

That aside… It is gripping TV!
