Um… I thought I read somewhere from master political scientists that Republicans would never, ever elect Rudy Giuliani as the GOP nominee? Seems like he is doing pretty well so far in New Hampshire a year out, despite efforts by the Mainstream Media to shove his candidacy under a rug in favor of John McCain.
In a Republican Primary in New Hampshire today, Rudolph Giuliani and John McCain are tied among Republicans, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for WBZ-TV Boston. Giuliani gets 33% of likely Republican primary votes today, McCain 32%. Mitt Romney follows with 21%. 11% would vote for some other Republican.
In my humble opinion, the person that would be most responsible for Rudy or Newt Gingrich getting the GOP nomination would be none other than Bill Clinton. He forced us through the slime of all of those marital problem albatrosses that sunk previous candidates (Gary Hart).

GO RUDY!
Let’s do a poll (uh, libs…that’s poll, not pole) and if Rudy wins it, give him an early endorsement!
I’m not surprised. Giuliani is a Northeasterner, so Granite Staters can relate to him more readily than to someone like Mike Huckabee — or, for that matter, your pal Newt Gingrich. Half of New Hampshire is already familiar with Romney from watching Boston TV stations. And New Hampshire’s electorate has grown steadily more centrist over the years, which explains the strong support for McCain.
It isn’t so much that NH is centrist, NH just tends to be very libertarian in political views. The people in NH really do live by the motto “live free or die” and don’t want or like much government meddling in anything.
McCain was a very popular candidate in the 2000 primaries and is still very popular-he will probably still do well here, especially since he appealed a lot to independants, and independants can always skew the polls, since the majority of voters aren’t registered in either party, and can vote in either primary.
Well, both Rudy and Newt sure beat Bill Clinton in one respect: number of divorces. You guys say the gay community must demonstrate that we take the institution of marriage and its commitments seriously, then you go and push a couple of adulterers for the the top of your Presidential ticket. Or is this just another case of IOKIYAR?
#4 – And how many affairs did either Rudy or Newt have with interns while they were married? And did either of them lied under oath to conceal it? And how many times did Rudy or Newt cheat on their spouses during their entire political careers that earned coverage on 60 Minutes?
For you to compare a loveless marriage like the Clintons’ to either Rudy’s or Newt’s is like comparing apples and oranges. Anyone can see that Bill and Hitlery are engaged in what is termed a “Boston marriage.”
Hypocrisy, thy name is liberalism.

Peter H.
Now now now Peter… as we all know, Hillary is working on her marriage with an “evil man” and, no, he’s not the therapist. Before you bring up the Clintons… let’s remember that the Carters have a great marriage, the Johnsons were the model of loving marriage and the Kennedys were… opps, never mind. But the Carters love each other… just think what it takes to stay married to that guy?
I saw Rudy speak in RI last weekend. What is very appealing is his strong sense of connection with the important issues. First we need to win the war on terrorism. Second we need to grow the economy by giving people more freedom. The fringe issues pale in importance if we’re all dead or at war on our own soil. Don’t count on economic liberty if the terrorists win.
6&7 – I think what a lot of hypocritical libtrolls miss is the fact that a candidate’s marital status does not preclude them from governing effectively.
Take Reagan for example. Divorced and married twice, first to Jane Wyman (whom I loved in “Falcon Crest”) and then Nancy Davis. Yet in his two terms in office, real after-tax income per person rose, taxes got cut, actual revenues almost doubled, and the Soviet Union got checkmated. Plus he made untold numbers of libtards just shriek with insanity. Gotta love the man.
Yeah, he was REALLY unqualified for office based upon his marital status. (Sarcasm)
Rudy may not be the paragon of virtue as seen by the loony left (who insist that the Clintons are moral standardbearers, which says a lot). Yet he’s the kind of guy that can get the job done. 9/11 was a case in point. Very Reaganesque.
Plus, experience has shown us that those candidates who hail from the executive branch (mayors, governors, veeps) are the most qualified to become presidential candidates because they are used to the workings of the executive branch.
Some facts for you – the last sitting Senator to become Prez was JFK in 1960. The last sitting member of the HR to become Prez was James Garfield in 1880. The only modern day Prez who never served in Congress or a state house was Eisenhower in 1952.
If elected, Rudy would be the first mayor ever elected President. Think about that.

Peter H.

Peter, I don’t disagree with you on this, but I think something is getting lost in the debate, and that is that many people on the left feel that it’s not the marital fidelity problems that are the issue, but rather what many feel is a “holier-than-thou” attitude coming from the Republican “base” (quotations intended, since that term is loaded). That leftist view is predicated on a belief that the religious right crowd that believes in the small-tent Republican party preaches one thing but does another in situations like this. I could be wrong of course, but that’s my personal impression of it.
Seems like the ability to govern effectively is missing from the debate to begin with, and of course we need to get back to that. It’s unfortunate that we find ourselves in that position, but it would certainly be a refreshing change to engage in intelligent debate about issues and vision.
Mike, I totally agree with your last paragraph. Now if we could get the electorate and the MSM to go along with us. But somehow I don’t think they would get it.

Peter H.
Does that include Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton?
I don’t care much for Giuliani, but if he is the nominee, he may wish to consider a social conservative running mate as a bridge to the conservative base. Giuliani-Romney, or Giuliani-Hunter might make his candidacy slightly more palatable. Although, to counter the MSM wet-dream ticket of Rodham-Obama, or Rodham-Richardson, he might want to take a good look at JC Watts or Michael Steele.
If Bobby Jindal wins the governor job in Lousiana (he’s way ahead in the polls, but given that state’s history of corruption, sleaze, dirty tricks, race-baiting, and mysterious packets of votes arising from the swamps, who knows?) Will he be a viable 2012 or 2016 candidate?
Meanwhile, on the Nut side: Joe Biden Stuffs His Wingtips into His Cakehole, Again.
The guy who was proud that Delaware was a slave state now describes Barack Obama as “the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy.” (The first? Ever?) “I mean, that’s a storybook, man.” Um, so Biden thinks articulate, clean, nice-looking African-Americans are storybook creatures?
#13 – Well, V, apparently Bidet only comes in contact with those African-Americans who work in his mansion or in his yard. So I guess that’s where the connotation came in.
Stick a fork in him, he’s done.

Peter H.
#11 – Yes, it does. It also includes former governors Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush.

Hello all,
I am a Conservative who is dreaming of a candidate like Rudy. (fiscal conservative, strong on crime, and defense, AND (gasp) and open-minded ‘evil conservative’)
Most of the people I know could care less about flag burning, and banning same sex marriage. I want any couple who loves each other to be able to get married, and suffer like the rest of us. lol
The Republicans are gonna lose, and lose big, if they continue to focus on being the ‘party of jesus & tax cuts’
Leave Jesus at church, save us all from getting blown up, and stay out of everyone’s personal lives.
(as so eloquently stated by ‘George Straight’ – what do ANY issues matter if we are all dead?)
I hope Rudy wins, and gives us moderate conservatives a hope for a good candidate, not a “this-guy-is-not-as-bad-as-the-other-guy-and-he’s-for-low-taxes”- candidate.
Dubya has lost me. I used to enjoy his tough talk about ‘smoking ’em outta their holes dead or alive’, and then, in the end, he became a half-assed politician like most of the rest of them.
One thing you can say about Rudy, is that he doesnt take any sh*t, and he will enforce the laws. (ie the borders)
