Damnnnnnnnn…..
As you know, John Murtha has “said he would attach language to a war funding bill that would prohibit the redeployment of units that have been at home for less than a year, stop the extension of tours beyond 12 months and prohibit units from shipping out if they do not train with all of their equipment. His aim, he made clear, is not to improve readiness but to ‘stop the surge.’ So why not straightforwardly strip the money out of the appropriations bill, an action Congress is clearly empowered to take, rather than try to micromanage the Army in a way that may be unconstitutional? Because, Mr. Murtha said, it will deflect accusations that he is trying to do what he is trying to do. ‘What we are saying will be very hard to find fault with,’ he said.”
We Marines maintain that except for Lee Harvey Oswald, there is no such thing as an “ex-Marine.” I believe that John Murtha has just joined that small club.
And more on how those who wail about shredding the Constitution are the very ones doing it….
BILL SAMMON from FOX News’ Special Report last night: The other thing is his plan to put these restrictions on troop deployments and so forth is essentially micromanaging the war and is a constitutional power grab. That is up to the commander in chief, the Congress has the power of the purse, they can cut off funding or they can fund it, or they can partially fund it, but they cannot micromanage the war. The actual execution and prosecution of the war is up to the commander in chief.
We hear all this talk about Bush, you know, grabbing power from the legislative branch, well, this is the legislative branch trying to grab the legitimate constitutional power from the executive branch.
Keep going down this path Pelosi & Murtha. There is an angry American public at the end of the road when your actions bring about defeat against al-Qaeda.
And personally, I cannot wait for a unanimous Supreme Court to weigh in on the side of the Executive Branch in this battle. (Of course then the Democrats will claim the Court is illegitimate, just like they do with all elections they lose).

The Legislature has been overreaching their authority and taking power unconstitutionally from the Executive since Jimmy Carter’s administration. This is nothing new.
Should be a fun next few years. I think Bush will have some losses via the SCOTUS, but the Dem led Congress will eventually have legal issues of their own.
Hey, I’m no longer blocked. I can post again!!!!!
Yeaaaaa!! I told you it would work eventually!
While I certainly have no sympathy for Murtha’s cynical plan, my layman’s reading of the Document in question seems to show that it allows for the Legislative branch to have a say in the regulation of the armed forces. In fact it requires their involvement in the making of rules that apply to their disposition and conduct.
rightwingprof – am I off base here?
The good thing about the Democrats winning the most recent elections is the mask is off. They make no pretense anymore of their actual goals. the Murtha effort is the latest example. In Pennsylvania we are wondering if he has lost touch with reality.

You forgot Ford.

As far as how troops are deployed, it’s not congress’ job.
Gee, looks like al-Qaeda has started making poison gas attacks against Iraqi civilians.
At what point are leftists like Pelosi and Murtha going to give up their attempts to sabotage and prevent American soldiers from finding and defeating these brutes? Are they really that desperate for political power that they will continue to allow Iraqi civilians to be killed rather than support the mission of our troops to protect them?

I dunno. They should have never heard Hamdan v. Rumsfeld and their decision was a power grab.
I think Murtha’s so-called “Slow Bleed Plan” oversteps Congressional bounds for oversight and tries to undercut the WOT-Iraq and the military and civilian command while pretending to “support the troops”.
For a fomer Marine and retired Reservist it is a shameful disgrace.
For a staunch Democrat partisan who has a long track record with corruption of the most base sort and is a posterboy for PorkBarrel Politics, it’s standard operating procedure.
Jack has got to go. Like TommieDaschele… Jack has got to go for the sake of our Nation, military and future of our kids.
Jack has got to go. Frankly, he makes GenBenedictArnold look good most days.
Bruce GP, I have no use for Congressman Murtha. I think he’s really a befuddled old man eager for attention and fame before he reaches a point where he’s too old to stand in the House well without drooling and losing his train of thought. But, Bruce, he doesn’t deserve to be compared, in any way, to Lee Harvey Oswald, who murdered an American President.
Ashley, I thought Bruce was making a short list of “Ex-Marines” for which Murtha and Oswald were prime for inclusion. It’s a tough standard to disgrace the Corps to a point where fellow Marines think you betrayed its honor –that’s how strong the Corps holds to its own.
“We Marines…” Are you a Marine, Bruce? I’ve never heard you mention it. That would bring a new insight into your writing if you are. Just curious.
He’s quoting someone else. Follow the link.
But, Bruce, he doesn’t deserve to be compared, in any way, to Lee Harvey Oswald, who murdered an American President.
Personally, I think the only difference between the two is that Lee Harvey Oswald actually did it.
Murtha just wishes he could shoot straight enough to do it.
Perhaps that’s the plan that Pelosi and Murtha are cooking up; assassinate the President and Vice-President, and Queen Nancy takes the throne.
OT: Looks like other Democrats are taking their cue from Air Pelosi: Massachussetts Governor Spends Tax Dollars on Cadillac, Cites “Security Concerns.”
Also OT: Senate Democrats Block Spending to Prevent Baby AIDS, But Keep Spending for Workshops on Flirting and Picking Up Escorts.
Looks like San Francisco values are alive and well in the Democrat Congress.
To clarify: I am NOT a Marine. I made an error in how the quote box should have appeared. The guy from The Corner is the Marine, not I.
I only wish I were so lucky and brave to be a Marine.
