#12 - Only someone who is so full of anger at the world around her would call someone else "self-loathing." I guess we're just too cheerful for you, eh Kimmy old girl?

Try again.

Here's the problem, though: Coulter repeatedly makes idiotic and bigoted comments about anyone who doesn't look or act like she does and she still gets FULL support from most conservatives. Fortunately, there are those like Giuliani who speak out, but most southern and midwestern state conservatives are lovin' her!! Time after time, she makes her bigoted comments which feed into the stereotype that conservatives are bigots and gay bashers and yet her books still make the best seller list, conserv. groups pay top $$ to have her speak, FOX has her comment all the time, etc. She has become the voice of the party. Do you all want to become self-loathing queers and stand for all that she represents?

I am curious how they defend the democratic congressman's "fruitcake" comment, which is pretty much on par with Coulter's.

Now granted it appears to be pretty old, but that comment isn't anymore defense worthy than Coulter's even if you think the statute of limitations has run out.

What's really funny is the Patterico comments section, with lefties claiming that because the quotes are not current, or from showbusiness people and other non-politicians, or not against a Protected Minority™, or do not meet other criteria they just dislodged from their posteriors, they don't count as hate speech. Don't miss the absurd claim that Louis Farrakhan is right-wing.

"So all this excuses Ann Coulter’s latest playground name-calling?"

It's like liberals who accuse conservatives of attacking their patriotism when their policies on behalf of unions are questioned because they threaten security. GP is not excusing Ann's name-calling. Nowhere in the blog is this point insinuated. GP is merely pointing out the hypocrisy which admittedly exists on both sides. However, by accusing GP of excusing Caustic Ann's remarks, the real point is obscured. Typical response by those unable to follow simple reasoning and logic.

However, there are major differences between the reactions of the right and left. First, the right is pretty universal in their contempt of Ann's remarks. From what I understand, her "joke" went up like a lead balloon. Whereas, Whoopie's vulgar tirade at a major fundraiser for Kerry in 2006 was thoroughly enjoyed. Also, the left tends to result to hyperbole in their reactions to non-PC remarks. For instance, ex-rep David Bonior's comments "A friend just forwarded me the video and it's one of the worst moments in American politics I've seen." Come on, give me a break.

Get away from the DU and Daily Kos and use your brains people. Ann has never been one of my favorite people even though I am a conservative. I'm willing to say that, whereas liberals will defend girlfriend-killing, philandering drunks until the day they die as long as they vote for every social welfare program.

One of the commenters on that site also brought up the nuanced and intellectual statement by Barner Frank (duly elected Democrat leader) about Bush wanting ethnic cleansing in Louisiana. There is nothing a Leftist hates more than a fellow American.

Why weren't Michael Moore and Cindy Sheehan quoted? Democrats adore them.

If my other comment does appear, I want to apologize to Rachel - who clearly is not unthinking even if she may have missed the three previous posts that slammed Coulter. Sorry.

We have three exceptionally unthinking lefty posts here - and thats saying something! I could make a complex and lengthy arguement about why Coulter's joke isn't quite what its been made out to be but in my experience leftys don't get that kind of nuance. I will, however, point that GayPatriot had already posted three (three!) posts very critical of Coulter and her comment when he wrote this one. Three leftys. Three posts. Zero connection. I think there's some kind of equation there.

Meanwhile, what do you gay-lovin' leftys think about the campaign to out gays working for republicans in an attempt to get them fired? Is that still going on?

Ann Coulter uses the word "FAGGOT" and you get mad at liberals. This is why I nominated this blog for the comedy and humor categories this season.

So all this excuses Ann Coulter's latest playground name-calling?

Trash is trash, no matter who is collecting it. Liberals tossing verbal molotov cocktails should be roundly condemned as much as the Rush Limbaughs, Glenn Becks and Ann Coulters.

However, it was interesting to note that Coulter's comments received plenty of laughs and applause. Maybe that's why Keen had trouble condemning it and PFLAG VP Cheney was missing in action.

Giuliani earned my respect by speaking out against Coulter as opposed to having an assistant fire off a press release. As much as I hate his schtick sometimes, that's true leadership.
