US Forces Hang With “Iraq The Model” Guys

March 31, 2007 by GayPatriot

Omar and Mohammed were paid a surprise midnight visit by patrolling American troops on Thursday night.

I often find myself in arguments with people about the behavior of American soldiers when they search homes and many of the people I talk to base their argument and negative impression on the footage of some raids we see on TV or on experiences of presumed relatives or friends.

When I try to counter the idea of ‘they knock down doors unnecessarily, steal jewelry and treat people bad’ by saying that there must be a good reason the troops sometimes act rough and that ‘for every reaxction there must have been an action’ I often get the response of “what do you know about that? The Americans never searched your home”

Well, last night they did…

The Iraqis and Americans exchanged words of greetings.

The soldiers now began to feel a bit relaxed seeing the relaxed friendly mood, the barbeque and the drinks in Iraqis’ hands.

That’s a large fish! Looks good! One soldier noted.

There’s enough food and drinks for all of us here, please join us, said one of my friends.

Nah, we can’t do that. Thanks anyway.

We know the Americans were on duty and had a job to do so we didn’t repeat the offer violating the tribal Iraqi tradition of persistently offering food.

One of the soldiers asked for the keys to the cars and he and his colleague started checking them one after the other.  I lead three others into the house showing them the rooms explaining what each one was.  When we entered the living room they were surprised to see 4 laptops scattered around.

What are these for?

One’s mine, the other is my brother’s and the rest are our friends’, I said and explained that our friends always bring their laptops with them when they come because they can use our wireless.

My brother and I are bloggers, our friends work in the computers business, I added.   Ah, you got wireless! I should bring my laptop too next time I come here, one of the soldiers joked.

We went up to the second floor, then the roof and they looked around around, opened a few drawers, asked if we had any weapons. I told them we didn’t have any.

That’s fine, no problem.

Within roughly 20 minutes the soldiers had completed searching the house and by now they seemed convinced that this household is ‘clean’. So we all went back to the back yard and gathered around the tasty-smelling fish and we all had some short friendly talk about food, booze, the city, the war, the internet, etc.

Oh by the way, the fire you see in the posting by Omar and Mohammed is a BBQ in a Baghdad neighborhood, not an American flag or US soldier being burned in effigy.

That is only seen in Portland, Oregon.

This is probably the first time in the history of the World that when soldiers from an occupying army knock on the door in the middle of the night, fathers bring out their daughters and ask if the soldiers have a medic instead of hiding them because no matter how sick they are the soldiers are worse. I’m sure that it’s scary and upsetting and sometimes are less polite than other times, but no matter how frightening to have huge armored men with very big guns at your door, an Historical perspective should have anyone in awe simply because of how truly unique this is.

I really wish that the media would report at least some of this stuff so the citizenry at large could hear it, too. How can they, who so rarely leave the green zone, ignore the “citizen journalists” who seem to be doing real reporting from actual civilian locations (and actual civilian perspectives) in Iraq? Would it really kill them to put up some good news along with the bad, and to put not just a human face, but also a human manner on their portrayal of our Military? It may be anecdotal, but it’s still an important thing to be heard.

Really, I can’t help but think about it this light: can you imagine how a WWII-era newsreel would have taken this and just run with it?

Though I am always suspicious of the government, and have engaged in an argument or two about “Jack-booted thugs” crashing in at two in the morning, my only REAL experience was when the BATF visited my father after he had purchased a few controlled firearm parts.

They knocked, introduced themselves, were polite and careful in their search. No battering rams, no kevlar vests or night-vision scopes, no stun bombs.

So I’m not surprised at an account of a military search that was cordial, but I have to admit that’s the FIRST time I’ve ever heard of one that didn’t involve all that other stuff. Good job there MSM.

Think of the instances that did make the news. I can think of two. Only one made the news. It was the guy who was so upset that the soldiers laid his pornography collection next to the Koran on his bed that he had to beat up his mother in a fit of shame and anger. It was on the news for a while with all the talk about how we didn’t “respect” Iraqi sensibilities.

Wait, three. The other one was that the father brought the “jack booted thugs” to see his daughter because she had something wrong with her feet. I think that was the one that turned out to be a heart condition and it might have been the same one where the little girl was eventually brought to Albuquerque for surgery. I never heard how that one turned out.

The last “report” I recall was a mention from the “Oh My God, Girl’s Shouldn’t Be Soldiers” camp and interviewed a young lady who’d gone along, who said it was frightening (well, duh) who pointed at her pony tail to show she was a girl and the women in the home didn’t need to be frightened and got invited to tea (which I believe she sat down for while the guys searched.) I think she was Army.

I don’t know if they ever send females along house to house anymore. The Marines were doing it in some pretty violent places because of the potential that regular folks would go ballistic because they searched the women, and either they got made to stop (girls in combat ya know) or they got really and truly stealthy about it. The news about that didn’t include anything about how the house searches were done.

Soldiers are educated people, so it is logical to think that in most cases, they will act in an educated fashion. Of course the left will never say so.

Keep on saying that. It’s why Kerry talked about our soldiers terrorizing people and Murtha was so happy to get to insist they are all walking on the bare edge of massacre, a place where anyone could find himself at any time because of the horrific stress. It’s why they go on and on about how the young men and women who enlist are duped into it or forced by economic circumstance.

Face it, the left loves the soldiers like the left loves starving children in Africa. Soldiers give them someone to pity.

Which is why they fall all over each other to cut them off at the knees. Oh and bribe each other with pork to screw the soldiers. Let’s not forget the slander and the smear jobs from the left.

Now what the hell is responsible and moral about that?

Sorry to prolong this side note, but I must reply:

And, to TGC: A Nittany Lion is a mountain lion, specifically the ones that used to live in the area.

PSUdain – Right on. These so-called “citizen journalists” who probably rarely leave their barstools at their posh hotels in the Green Zone are more intent on bashing and demoralizing our soldiers rather than reporting the positive aspects of the mission.

Of course, if you are Michael Ware of CNN, you are not only intoxicated half the time, but spend the other half heckling Republicans. (Note to CNN – keep it up, doofuses. Let’s see how low your ratings can sink.)

And let’s face it – the only time US troops don’t knock on the door in the middle of the night is when they are trying to kidnap a Cuban boy to deport him back to Havana at the behest of a Dhimmicrat president and his butch lesbian AG.

Funny – I don’t seem to recall much outrage from the left on THIS trampling of civil liberties…

    Hypocrisy, thy name is liberalism.

    Peter H.

Mount Nittany. And PSUdain, it’s not the cougars that USED to live here; they found droppings and pawprints a few years ago, reported it in the Centre Daily Times. For more about Mt. Nittany, see here.

From the “Facts That May Upset You” file:

    Pelosi in Syria.

I assume this is another attempt to shore up the feminist vote (as if necessary) and seize the reigns of foreign policy, but with Hillary raking in most of the campaign cash, the Democrats need to be careful not to oversell to their female constituency.

  16. North Dallas Thirty says

And what is funny is seeing Pelosi sitting there with Berri, who is an ally and supporter of Hezbollah, grinning from ear to ear.

Thankfully, Pelosi, after years of dealing only with Democrat constituencies, is really that clueless; she thinks she can profess support for Israel one day, then sit down and clap and smile with an individual who supports the terrorist organization that has a) vowed to destroy Israel, b) wants to kill all Jews, and c) thinks nothing of firing thousands of missiles targeted at civilians with the express intention of killing and maiming them.

Oh. Mt. Nittany. I just didn’t know what a Nittany was. Thanks guys.

As far as CNN goes, I think when you show video of snipers killing our soldiers and how to shoot down our helicopters with a rifle, it goes without saying whose side you’re on. Fruther, given that CNN is the mouthpiece of the left, it goes without saying whose side they’re on, all other evidence aside.

Seriously, doesn’t any of this bother the libs at all? Does it bother you that Zawahri is indistinguishable from Screamin’ Howie Dean?

NDXXX, I heard that the meeting with Berri went so well that Pelosi tried to convince him to come back to the States and run as a Democrat in Congress; she said she could guarantee a lifetime seat in any of 12-15 urban Congressional seats the Democrats control.

Next trip is for Murtha to head over there and help provide “military leadership” tips to the generals.

What does it take to committ treason these days, because IMNSHO, she should’ve been hung out to dry ages ago – along with 99% of the democrats in this country. Good for our side, continuing to fight the only good fight there is, for humanity and freedom. We are not at war with the Iraqi people – but those who want to destroy them (like Al Qaeda and our own domestic terrorists on “the left”).

#8 Interesting. I’m, ex Army and if you ask the serving soldiers and airman in the military they wouldn’t “say the left loves the troops”.
As a matter of fact it is the leftists who gut the military every time they get the chance. Then when a conflict occurs, they wonder why we can’t execute faster and with more precision. The troops know who loves em and who doesn’t. I liked when Murtha and Jim Moran had a forum. And a troop asked tough questions…Murtha and Moran looked on him with distain. To repeat, 70-80% of the military votes Republican not Democrat.

Yes, Peter, I have heard of them being referred to as that. What a shame that the “party of the people” has turned into such an amoral bunch of power-hungry heathens. You can stuff classified documents from the National Archives into your drawers and possibly alter some all in preparation to run defense for lord BJ. Nobody cares.

If you’re a member of the media, you can make up stories about terrorists being tortured, their Korans being flushed, Bush’s service record etc. and DOJ could give a rat’s a$$.

Hell, we find out DiFi’s been engaging in “war profiteering” and…OOOPS! Time to go on spring break and the story gets buried so far by the MSM that you’d stand a better chance of getting a confession out of Teddy than seeing that story any time soon.
