AI died last season, when there wasn't one in the final 12 who was anything better than mediocre. This season, it's turned into a parody of itself. I'm all for Sanjaya, if it will bring AI to its knees and end it forever.

Think about it. The show that brought us Carrie Underwood brought us that no-talent twitch last season. And Sanjaya is sharing a stage with Melinda Doolittle. What a farce AI is.

Honestly, if the choice were between Chris and Sanjaya, I might have to vote for Sanjaya. Fortunately, there are a lot of others out there, so we're not reduced to voting for either of those turkeys.

These are the 8 best singers left in the whole country who have gone “undiscovered”?

To be fair Gene, America didn't get to pick the contestants; the judges and/or producers of the show did.

What pisses me off is that Haley got voted off the week I finally remembered her name.

This is my second season of watching AI and this years crop is by far the weakest from top to bottom. These are the 8 best singers left in the whole country who have gone "undiscovered"? I think not. I do agree we hope for a train wreck or hair pulling no question.

No, Sanjaya is all about sabotaging the show. I'm sure it may help a little for Simon to say he'll quit but he has a contract. It's all about this website:

http://www.votefortheworst.com/

And I think the website was inspired by Howard Stern. I'm all for it, but for different reasons than the VftW people. The show seems to be an excercise in shallowness. More people vote for AI than vote in most political elections. A vote for Sanjaya is kind of a vote against the show, and a vote against shallowness and stupidity.

I'm going one better and not watching the show at all.

This is the first year I've watched A.I., save for a few random shows from previous seasons while channel surfing.

I have to admit it's an incredible production. From the staging, lighting, and sequencing of songs and in-between banter to the fantastic live orchestra and the group of squeaky-clean young people getting up in front of multimillions and singing their hearts out -- what's not to like? The judging does get a bit tiresome (YoDawg, ItchyBoobs, and Smarm are all a bit long-in-the-tooth and don't offer much that's constructive), but I don't recall a host of a live show doing as good a job as Seacrest and he appears to be having the time of his life. The show taps into some basic aspects of what an audience likes: direct comparison (particularly over the water cooler the next day), participation (voting), justice (talent wins -- usually), smackdown (Simon), controversy (Sanjaya), scandal (Antonella Barba), the familiar (pop songs we all know), launching some very big music careers ("Oh yeah, I remember voting for her/him on American Idol 10 years ago!")

My take? Doolittle wins (performing skill, vocal ability, sheer musical talent) with Lewis second (unique, sheer musical talent, adept at a variety of styles).

Jimbo, thanks for the correction. Gloria did "I Will Survive," another gay disco chart-topper.

As a gay Christian, I promise to say Hail Marys until Madonna has a hit movie.

#11: Uh, Peter H., it was Vicki Sue Robinson who did "Turn the Beat Around", not Gloria Gaynor. You're a gay guy so you should be up on disco tunes (stereotypical I know). I agree with you on Michael Bolton. He always sounded in desperate need of a laxative.
Look folks, the only reason Sanjaya is advancing this far is because Simon said he would quit the show if Sanjaya won. In the end, the voters will come to their senses & vote for the best vocalist (not Sanjaya). Someone else was also correct-Chris is a looker :)

Hey All, This next election is too important for us as a country. So I have set up November08.com http://www.november08.com as a digg styled site to submit political news and views. This site is specifically for the 08 election and only news of the 08 election so everything is relevant and no digging through other topics, stories to find relevant issues. Please check it out!

Hubby was watching "Idol" last night and I was upstairs in the study on the computer. I heard snippets of the singers during the vote session (where they flash the toll-free number to vote) but since I couldn't see the TV, I didn't know who they were.

Most of the women's voices were great (except for the one who butchered Gloria Gaynor's "Turn the Beat Around"), but a couple of the guys whom I dub "oversingers" were just flat-out horrible. Too many vocal gymnastics. Reminded me of the worst oversinger of all time: Michael Bolton. (BLEAH!)

It went on and on, and I heard one guy singing in Spanish. It actually sounded good. Very smooth and tender.

So I came downstairs and told Hubby: "I don't know who was singing on the show, but the last one would get my vote."

It was Sanjaya.

Moral - don't judge a book by its cover.

Regards,
Peter H.

Stop me from having to see and hear this annoying kid on American Idol any longer.

There's a simple solution, GP. Just don't watch.

Meanwhile, I recommend this article. Yes, I'm a broken record.

I do not watch the show but blog entries like this for some reason make me want to root for the underdog. He is already destined for the American Idol All American Tour because he is in the top ten. People will already be payng to hear him. Is it really relevant at this point whether he wins? Isn't the point ratings? Doesn't he deliver? As Americans don't we naturally root for the underdog (for some reason I will never understand)? The blogs have made him more famous than he probably deserves to be. Your blog has me commenting on him.

Gene's got it right. Sanjaya was good(tonight)... and he makes it interesting (something important in a TV show.... Train wrecks and all that).

That aside, Jordin is my pick.

Presumably you've heard of votefortheworst.com. If nothing else, Sanjaya's continued failure to be eliminated is yet another demonstration of the power of the Internet.

But why is everybody so worked up about AI anyway? Like most reality shows, it was invented in Europe.

I am so with you, Bruce. Last week sealed it for me when it appears the kid started believing his own hype. Yeesh.

I've been voting for Sanjaya for weeks and will continue until either a fist fight ensues or there is serious hair pulling back stage. Him sticking around makes the show interesting and kitch. Didn't you think his best performance by far was tonight anyway?
Have you seen the pic of Chris and Blake?

scroll down to APRIL 6th. They get my vote as cutest couple for sure.

I don't particularly like the kid myself, but is not completely horrible and does have a certain "2 shows a day in Vegas" entertainer quality about him.

And Chris is a hell of a lot cuter!
