I was out working with one of my managers in Michigan last week and he asked me a question that got me thinking: “Bruce, do you really think there are sleeper cells in the USA?” I told him, yes — partly from things I know from friends in the intelligence community. And partly because of my current bias due to watching the outstanding SHOWTIME series “Sleeper Cell: American Terror” (which is the 2nd season of this program).
One of the main characters in “Sleeper Cell” is an FBI informant. While attending a meeting while undercover with his jihadist gang in Los Angeles, one of the true holy warriors asks the FBI agent (I’m paraphrasing) “who would ever believe a jihadist was a store owner?” The FBI informant (keeping his cover as the group’s lead) replies “who would believe that a jihadist is a nanny?” He then glances over to the Dutch-born Muslim extremist woman who, in fact watches over two American children during the daytime…while at night plotting the death of Americans.
I’m planning to do a more complete review on Sleeper Cell which I’ve downloaded to my iPod. But you can still catch repeats on SHOWTIME through June.
With the “nanny comment” as an intro, I call your attention to the announcement yesterday of the breakup of the “sleeper cell” in New Jersey yesterday.
The FBI arrested six people last night, including five in Cherry Hill, for an alleged plot to kill soldiers at Fort Dix, several federal officials said.
Greg Reinert, a Justice Department spokesman in Camden, described the six as “Islamic radicals . . . who were involved in a plot to kill U.S. soldiers at Fort Dix in New Jersey.”
“Their alleged intention was to conduct an armed assault on the Army base and to kill as many soldiers as possible,” he said.
While there is no suggestion that these individuals were operating under an al-Qaeda umbrella, clearly there are “sleeper cells” in our American neighborhoods. Americans need to wake up and realize that there is a global war against our freedom and way of life. It isn’t fair that our volunteers in the US Armed Forces are the only ones having to defend us.
And our national media organizations aren’t doing us any favors when they are continually chipping away at our national resolve to fight this war. (*cough* Keith Olbermann *cough*)
Especially when there are Islamic terrorists next door.
-Bruce (GayPatriot)
The sleeper cell was broken up because of surveillance of radical groups (which is opposed by leftist Democrats) and because a concerned citizen saw suspicious behavior and tipped off the FBI. There is a bill in congress to protect citizens who report suspicious behavior from being sued by groups like CAIR. Pelosi, GReid and the rest of their Democrat Power Cabal are trying to block the bill from becoming law.
The FBI has been appearing to be very competent in foiling plots consisting of two or more people.
What explains this? I have a hard time believing that it’s actually a plan , because that would mean some part of the Federal Govt works.. and what are the chances of that?
This and the Lackawanna Six are interesting cases. There was a time when I might have thought “While pre-emptive strikes against terrorism overseas may not always be the best strategy, surely no one would disagree with finding and prosecuting those on our own shores.” But that was back when a rapist wouldn’t attack a blind woman.
Kudos to the vigilant ones in NJ for foiling what would have been one of the worst terrorist attacks on US soil since 9/11. National Review has a wonderful piece that talks about ordinary citizens being vigilant and reporting suspicious behavior to law enforcement – something that has been urged repeatedly (to the disdain of the Dhimmicrats).
Speaking of which – remember the continuous charges by the Dhimmicrats that the Bush Administration has repeatedly used news related to the war and terrorism to scare the electorate or manipulate voting? I guess this event blows a big hole in that theory (no pun intended).
Given the libtards’ certainty about “Bushco’s” tactics, I wonder if they are wondering why Karl Rove didn’t have the arrests timed for October?
Plus, I haven’t heard a peep from any of the Dhimmicrat candidates about this development. Typical.

Peter H.
They already have Pete. Within hours of the arrests, the following comments had already shown up on the HuffPo:
What was that poll? 35% of Democrats believe Bush was behind 9-11? The left is deranged.
V said: “35% of Democrats believe Bush was behind 9-11? The left is deranged.”
GP said: “our national media organizations aren’t doing us any favors when they are continually chipping away at our national resolve to fight this war.”
Like the lefty commentors on this blog, liberals are put to shame by those Americans who are fighting the war.
Rather than feel their shame, or a healthy fear of the real threat, they simply deny the necessity and validity of the fight. “9-11 was an inside job”, “Iraq has nothing to do with al Qaeda”, and all that other self-contradictory rubbish.
Denying it makes them feel better, and that’s what counts (to them). I can’t remember if it was Freud or somebody else entirely who said, “Neurosis is always a substitute for legitimate suffering.”
The Podhoretz article (another thread) made a very good point: from the foundation of our Republic up to at least 1972, Americans have always turned on “defeatist” political parties in the end. Let’s hope we haven’t gone THAT far downhill from 1972, yet.
And of course, what the leftist Democrats really don’t want us realizing is that several of these folks were in the country illegally.
The reason why is obvious, when you consider what Pelosi, Reid, and Democrat Party support.
Oh, and by the way – Leno and Migden are both prominent gay leftists, who also say it’s antigay to enforce immigration laws.
I’m just waiting for the diversitists to finger the guy who reported on these freaks that he was practicing racial profiling. Raising his eyebrow on suspicious behavior by Muslims. How dare he!!
“who also say it’s antigay to enforce immigration laws.”
I probably shouldn’t ask this, but how do they figure?
Simple, rwf. Enforcement of immigration laws is something “right-wing Christer Nazis” want done. Ipso facto, it’s anti-gay.
HardHobbit (#3):
Please remind me of a “pre-emptive” strike we have made against terrorism overseas. Both Afghanistan and Iraq, we invaded with U.N. permission and in response to actual terrorism and other full-blown acts of war.
And also because, RWP, they are shills for organized labor, who figured out early on that illegal immigrants are among the easiest people in the country to exploit — because they are totally unfamiliar with US workplace practices and laws, they quite often don’t speak the language, and several of them can’t read ANY language.
In other words, you can tell them anything — and once they sign that card, you have the right to deduct from their wages forever. If they push back, you kick them out and get them deported.
Democrats never gave up slavery. They just invented labor unions.
vthek: we’re not opposed to surveillance tactics; but they must follow the law and constitution and have a warrant behind them. that’s the difference: repugs don’t give a rat’s ass about citizens’ rights. democrats do.
bzzt. wrong, i love capitalism. iraq had NOTHING to do with al qaeda until we failed to provide enough security after our invasion. you’re showing your ignorance.
No, wrongalwayswrong, you’re showing yours.
I know people have tried to teach you and you refuse to ever learn anything, so I won’t bother. Suffice to say briefly that Saddam sheltered many terrorists, including known al Qaeda terrorists, both before and after their terrorist acts, and both before and after the Coalition invasion. Even Democrats acknowledge it (people have files with miles of quotes).
Also, liberals today continue to say “Iraq HAS [present tense] nothing to do with al Qaeda”. Certifiably nuts.
vthek: we’re not opposed to surveillance tactics; but they must follow the law and constitution and have a warrant behind them.
Since when?
“The Department of Justice believes — and the case law supports — that the president has inherent authority to conduct warrantless physical searches for foreign intelligence purposes and that the president may, as he has done, delegate this authority to the attorney general,” Clinton Deputy Attorney General Jamie S. Gorelick said in 1994 testimony before the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
That same authority, she added, pertains to electronic surveillance such as wiretaps.
One of the most famous examples of warrantless searches in recent years was the investigation of CIA official Aldrich H. Ames, who ultimately pleaded guilty to spying for the former Soviet Union. That case was largely built upon secret searches of Ames’ home and office in 1993, conducted without federal warrants.
In 1994, President Clinton expanded the use of warrantless searches to entirely domestic situations with no foreign intelligence value whatsoever. In a radio address promoting a crime-fighting bill, Mr. Clinton discussed a new policy to conduct warrantless searches in highly violent public housing projects.
That certainly contrasts with the Democrat Party’s view that any type of warrantless search is automatically wrong and evil and that any administration that would support such a thing or even argue that it is allowed is fascist — as has been claimed by Hillary Clinton and backed by Democrats like Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid.
Nice refutations, ILC and NDT.
#11 ILC, my comment didn’t mention Iraq and was intended as a reference to all terrorists abroad. For example, some might try to make the case that Hezbollah is a threat to the U.S. and thus a pre-emptive strike is needed to prevent an imminent attack. Unless offered proof, I disagree because without it, such a strategy doesn’t rise to the level of pre-emption. A nation harboring terrorists does not necessarily constitute a threat; the issue is about the standard necessary to take pre-emptive action.
Once again I’d like to thank the Homeland Security Dept, the FBI, and this Administration for busting the NJ terror network. I appreciate The President doing his utmost to keep us safe. Some on the left would have us eliminate terror surveillance, Guantanamo, and even fellow citizens being ever vigilant about terrorism. Thank God for the work of this Administration.
#19 – HH, I understand & agree thus far.
But to be clear: Hezbollah could be a threat to the U.S., if they’ve been infiltrating across our open borders and setting up cells (sleeper or otherwise). The operative words there: “if” and “could”. No evidence has been made public of Hezbollah doing that (that I’ve seen yet) and no threat has been asserted by the government that I know of. Hence there is little point in us even discussing it as a possibility or example here.
For Israel, it’s another matter. Hezbollah is a threat to her, unquestionably. If Israel were to attack Hezbollah tomorrow, it would not be pre-emption – it would be justified by Hezbollah’s track record of terrorist actions against Israel, or a continuation of what Israel should have done last summer (when Hezbollah attacked her).
A nation harboring terrorists by choice (note: by choice), is a threat by definition – to one degree or another. The question is, what? how much? The degree of action or lack thereof, should correspond to the terrorist track record or lack thereof.
I brought up Afghanistan and Iraq. In both cases, you had a country where the rulers chose to harbor and support proven terrorists.
In Iraq’s case, you also had the government directly attacking U.S. military (the no-fly zones), attempting to assassinate a U.S. President, harboring people involved in the first WTC bombing, flagrantly violating its ceasefire conditions from the U.N. – all very direct acts of war.
Afghanistan in a way was less justified, since the government of Afghanistan (the Taliban) did not attack U.S. forces, officials, people or property. But OK, the terrorist “guests” that they elected to harbor did so – in spectacular fashion – and that’s enough of a threat or act of war, for me.
35% of Democrats believe Bush was behind 9-11
Just last week, a gay liberal friend of mine told me that although he didn’t know if Bush and Cheney were behind the 9-11 attacks, “You can’t rule it out. It’s entirely possible that they were.” Such gay Democrats indeed walk the streets in my town.
How about the liberal candidates like Edwards?
It amazes me that you could say that all day long, but you get your sack handed to you if you say Islamo-fascist.
People who talk in terms like “Reich Wing Christiwackos” must be living in such a state of paranoid narcisism their minds must be whacked out all the time.
Has anyone tried to put themselves in the shoes of someone who types words like that. You should try it… pretend you’re writing a post to someone as if you’re a leftist… using the vocabulary they use… when I do it I feel such a cold malignancy fill me it scares me.
I’m incapable of comprehending such purple-plectic rage and hatred. Not to mention the blatant racism and homophobia of the left would make me ill.
BTW, I think vaara mentioned the use of terrorism as a form of scaring people to vote. I neglected to mention that, apparently, if we don’t vote for liberals, we’ll have polar bears spontaneously combusting. Further, we have at least one story (a poll, I think) that children are so afraid of global BS that they can’t sleep at night. I’ve yet to hear a story that children are thus scared of terrorism.
Who’s terrorizing whom?
Well, Tony Blair has announced his resignation. It was an interesting speech — partisan (mentioning the Third Way, but not by name), but deferential and briefly defensive and recounted his transformation from politician who wanted to be liked to one who was of conviction. Here’s an analysis of his record courtesy of the BBC.
So, in other words, claim that we’re less secure because we have a military in Iraq while simultaneously supporting the congressional democrat’s plan to divert funding from counter-terrorism intelligence to gathering data on global warming?
Claim that it’s illegal and wrong for the NSA to intercept terrorist communications, but call Baghdad Jim McDermott a hero for illegally intercepting Republican communications?
Get so outraged I want the Duke Lacrosse team to be prosecuted even if they were innocent, but excuse wife abuse and gay bashing among Muslims because we have to be tolerant of their culture?
Claim that BushCo could have been responsible for 9-11 and lied about WMD to trick us into a war in Iraq, but then just forgot to create irrefutable intelligence linking Iraq to 9-11 or stash WMD’s in Iraq?
Sorry, Vince, I just can’t get my head that far up my ass. Andrew Sullivan can, but then he’s had a lot more “experience” than I have.
Bruce, it seems strange to me that even today liberals can contend (with a str8 face, too) that we have nothing to fear and all the Homeland Security efforts are just hype and screech to keep Americans fearful of something, someone, somewhere in order for the status quo powerholders to keep their reign.
I don’t recall any testimony that told us the 9-11 terrorists transited in from the MiddleEast on an earlier 9-10 flight; they were here living among us learning how to crash jets. I don’t recall hearing that the imams preaching hate and violence against Americans that lead to the 1st WTC bombing did it via TV broadcast from Egypt; they were here, living among us.
Why is it that liberals usually want to downgrade realities like sleeper cells, espionage, traitorous selling of state secrets, and covert spying by foreign hostile govts agents within the US? It happened during WWII –Japanese, Nazi and even Italian agents spying and planning covert domestic operations against our homeland. It happened during the Cold War with Soviet agents, surrogate agents and countless others.
The threat is real. Why don’t they get it? It can’t be just naïveté or an unwillingness to see evil in others. What is it about the liberal mind that fails to grasp evil is real? And yet they grandly and gleefully attribute the most base evil intent to anything GOP or conservative or authoritarian.
M-Matt, unless the Muslims living in this country today take the first step in “outing” the radical elements of their own society, and demand a less literal transation of the Koran – you know, that portion about “killing infidels who do not believe in Allah – they will suffer for what their fellow Islamists are doing.
FDR had it right during World War II. Following 9/11, we should have either deported or incarcerated any radical Muslims in this country to prevent another such attack. We got lucky with the Fort Dix Six. We may not be as lucky next time around.
But then again, it will just give the libtards another excuse of how “it’s all Bush’s fault!” (SARCASM)

Thank God the TeeVee tells the truth about the sleeper cells!! Lesbian charts and sleeper cells–Showtime has blown the lid off the cover. Praise Jesus and pass the ammunition and let’s go look for a queer.
MM It seems the only explanation for the Stalinist, leftists attitude, is that the Republican “obsession” with terrorism is only to halt the natural march toward more and more socialism. While we are “bothered” with the GWOT we can’t get on with school breakfasts and dinners, “pre pre pre HEAD START, universal canadian lack of heath care, etc. etc. Remember it was 9/11 and the GWOT that caused Hollywood to postpone that years Academy Awards, and had a majority of Americans flying the flag and wearing flag lapel pins. That still sticks in their craw. It forced em to get together and decide to “say”…we support the troops. You can see them grit their teeth when they have to say things like that.
I’m convinced Islam is the empire of the Anti-Christ and we’re rushing toward the End Time.

Upon learning that the Fort Dix Terror Plot was the work of illegal immigrants, Senate Democrats seized the opportunity… to push for Amnesty for Illegal Immigrants
From the article, Senator Patty Leahy, Vermont Communist, bullsh*ts about Democrat “tough on terror” policies:
Sure you will, Patty. Unless fighting them involves sending troops to the countries where the operate, supporting allies in the Middle East against Islamic extremists, carrying out surveillance of terrorists and terrorist groups, imprisoning suspected terrorists, or interrogating terrorists with anything more severe than polite questioning over tea.
How come the media hasnt metioned the fact that some of these men were here illegally? They never fail to point out an illegal immigrant from Mexico. Probably because one side wants to grantamnesty and the other is biased. Should we harbor millions of illegal immigrants, no! In this day and age we cant afford to have people in this country that we cant find. And we definitely cant afford them not paying taxes and driving down wages. But make sure that we focus on all illegal immigrants, because I never heard of Mexican being arrested for plotting terrorist attacks.
I thought most of Al Qaeda was in Afghanistan and Pakistan. I say lets work harder to set up a government that want to lead its country, not one that just annouced its going on a two month vacation! Where did we find these guys? Maybe a little financial pressure will straigten them out. Then once we secure Iraq, invade Pakistan our so called allies are the ones harboring terrorists. Sorry to say it but Iraq wasnt a threat and wasnt behind 9/11.
liana: After we broke up Al Qaida’s camp network in 2001, they started disbursing.. many of them were streaming into Iraq. So , no, they are not “mostly” in Pakistan… The Taliban is.. but the Taliban is not Al Qaida.
The Taliban was about ruling in a specific place… Afghanistan. They’re concerns are local.
Al Qaida is about being the vanguard in Islam’s 3rd Jihad and so they go where the fight is.
They have declared Iraq to be their central and primary front. So we must fight them there.
They cannot be allowed to even think they are winning.. the consequences to the world are dire.
vthek: we’re not opposed to surveillance tactics; but they must follow the law and constitution and have a warrant behind them. that’s the difference: repugs don’t give a rat’s ass about citizens’ rights. democrats do.

The Texican.
The Texican: I grow increasingly confident that we will be overcome.
Every Muslim in the world is expecting the Mahdi to show up any day now.
What does Islam say the Mahdi will do?
The Mahdi is Islam’s primary messiah figure.
He will be a descendant of Muhammad and will bear Muhammad’s name (Muhammad bin Abdullah).
He will be a very devout Muslim.
He will be an unparalleled spiritual, political and military world leader.
He will emerge after a period of great turmoil and suffering upon the earth.
He will establish justice and righteousness throughout the world and eradicate tyranny and oppression.
He will be the Caliph and Imam (vice-regent and leader) of Muslims worldwide
He will lead a world revolution and establish a new world order.
He will lead military action against all those who oppose him.
He will invade many countries.
He will make a seven year peace treaty with a Jew of priestly lineage.
He will conquer Israel for Islam and lead the “faithful Muslims” in a final slaughter/battle against Jews.
He will establish the new Islamic world headquarters from Jerusalem.
He will rule for seven years (possibly as much as eight or nine).
He will cause Islam to be the only religion practiced on the earth.
He will appear riding a white horse (possibly symbolic).
He will discover some previously undiscovered biblical manuscripts that he will use to argue with the Jews and cause some Jews to convert to Islam.
He will also re-discover the Ark of the Covenant from the Sea of Galilee, which he will bring to Jerusalem.
He will have supernatural power from Allah over the wind and the rain and crops.
He will posses and distribute enormous amounts of wealth.
He will be loved by all the people of the earth.
If you were reading the Bible, Who does that sound like to you
Oh how timely. I give my thanks to the Democrat Party for acheiving this goal:
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/iraq/article1782088.ece
A RADICAL plan by Al-Qaeda to take over the Sunni heartland of Iraq and turn it into a militant Islamic state once American troops have withdrawn is causing alarm among US intelligence officials.
A power struggle has emerged between the self-styled Islamic State of Iraq, an organisation with ambitions to become a state which has been set up by Al-Qaeda, and more moderate Sunni groups. They are battling for the long-term control of central and western areas which they believe could break away from Kurdish and Shi’ite-dominated provinces once the coalition forces depart.
According to an analysis compiled by US intelligence agencies, the Islamic State has ambitions to create a terrorist enclave in the Iraqi provinces of Baghdad, Anbar, Diyala, Salah al-Din, Nineveh and parts of Babil.
“Al-Qaeda are on the way to establish their first stronghold in the Middle East,” warned an American official. “If they succeed, it will be a catastrophe and an imminent danger to Saudi Arabia and Jordan.”

BUSH Administration is going to TALK with IRAN!!! What losers!! They are traitors, talking to those Iranians. Why is the BUSH Administration cavorting with the Axis of Evil? If you thought Pelosi was a traitor, watch the BUSH Administration cave to Iran…just by talking with them!
sean, what is it with the Bush Derangement Syndrome 24-7 and you? For months, you and the defeatist Dems have been bashing W for NOT engaging in f2f diplomacy with Iran and now that the Bush Admin announces it will talk with Iran at the ambassador level, you fault them for doing so.
Sounds like “Damned if you don’t, damned if you do” for W when it comes to criticism by you and the defeatist Dems.
Thanks for making it clear that, for you, it’s all about BDS 24×7. Can you be anymore of a tool?
Who let sean out of his cage again?
