Yes, Ian… Harry Reid DID Say It…

June 15, 2007 by GayPatriot

The Weekly Standard has a full accounting of the charge of “incompetence” by Senate “Leader” Harry Reid against Generals Pace and Petraeus.

Fortunately, Bob Geiger has produced what he claims is a verbatim quote of the senator’s original remarks:

“I guess the president, uh, he’s gotten rid of Pace because he could not get him confirmed here in the Senate… Pace is also a yes-man for the president and I told him to his face, I laid it out to him last time he came to see me, I told him what an incompetent man I thought he was.”

So, now it turns out that Reid did, in fact, call Pace “incompetent,” despite the denials of all the bloggers linked above, and Reid’s own non-denial denial. Not only that, Reid claimed that he called Pace a “yes-man” and “incompetent” to his face. He claimed he questioned the man’s competence AND his integrity. He might as well have slapped him across the face with a white glove! How could none of these bloggers have thought such a claim newsworthy? So which is worse: the unbelievably small chance that Reid did actually say those things to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs, or that he lied about doing so in a pander to lefty bloggers.

The lefty bloggers, for their part, have shown themselves to be totally inept. They failed to report the comments, then they denied Reid ever made them while making their own unsubstantiated allegations, and now they defend the comments as irrelevant–and without even the slightest doubt as to their validity. Which is worse?

Indeed, which is worse?  The lefty bloggers have no sense of what is right, good or honest anymore.  They hound an 18-year old mercilessly about his sexual preference…. but stage a blogosphere-wide cover-up to protect their inept Senate Democrat “Leader” Harry Reid.  How Taliban-esque.

Oh, and Ian…. you’ll have to take off your Veil of Reid Apologism now.

Uh, Bruce, here’s what I said in the comment to which you linked:

As it turns out, Reid actually told Pace to his face that he was incompetent. AFAIC, Pace is a disgusting homohater and Bush ass-kisser – incompetent is to my mind a rather mild description of the jerk.

Bruce, you were the one who claimed that Reid called Petraeus “incompetent” yet this is what The Weakly Standard has to say about that:

we still have no idea what Reid said about Petraeus

So what is your source for the quote about Petraeus?

As for the “blogosphere-wide cover-up,” it just so happens that the blogger who provided the actual Reid quote about Pace is Bob Geiger, a progressive blogger.

“They hound an 18-year old mercilessly about his sexual preference”

I read and hear ‘Sexual Preference’ often, at least daily. Being gay is no more of a preference than one using their left had to write rather than their right. It’s just the way it is.

Being gay is not a lifestyle nor a preference. You’ll never hear or read anywhere about the straight lifestyle or the straight preference. So, let’s just say gay and leave it at that without implying that it is a preference or a way of life.

#1 – And once again, Wonder Woman tries to spin her way out of another controversy.

Here are the facts – not as if they mean a hill of beans to you and your ilk:

    1. If Reid truly felt that Peter Pace was incompetent, his comments were still inappropriate. Insulting an authentic American hero who has dedicated his life to serving his country merely for a political applause line is beyond contemptible.

    2. Dingy Harry Reid is anything but a stupid politician. He knows this kind of thing is beyond the pale – which makes his comments even more disturbing. In so eagerly joining the ranks of propagandists for whom facts are meaningless and political advantage the sole coin of the realm, Reid has unwittingly tilted his hand.

    3. What’s amazing and sad is that in such consequential times, a lightweight like Dingy Harry is making an impact. He may well be remembered as the most contemptible and least honest public servant to come down the pike in a generation.

After all, you can tell a man by the company he keeps.

So what? If you polled most Americans and asked them about the military leadership in regard to the War In Iraq, I’m sure incompetent would at least have a plurality. Why sugarcoat someone’s job performance in a time of war? That’s when the job performance is most important!

  16. Peter Hughes says

    June 15, 2007 at 5:24 pm - June 15, 2007

Chase, you are showing your ignorance again. Results are not achieved by “polling.” The point is that it is not for a partisan hack like Harry Reid to be name-calling and disparaging someone who has spent their professional life in the military.

Furthermore, it is obvious you have never read The Federalist Papers, especially #71:

“The republican principle… does not require an unqualified complaisance to every sudden breeze of passion, or to every transient impulse…”

In other words (and to bring this down to your level), polling doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things.

The point is that it is not for a partisan hack like Harry Reid to be name-calling and disparaging someone who has spent their professional life in the military.

Yet the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is a political appointee, nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate. Should our military leaders be immune from criticism of their job performance, solely because of the job they perform? Such sentiment has no benefit for the nation.

Also, while it’s true gov’t needn’t comply to every sudden breeze of passion, it still must adhere to our system of checks and balances. 8 months ago the American people elected the Senate that today would have opposed Gen. Pace’s renomination.

That, Peter, is not a sudden breeze of passion. It is the voice of the people, expressed through their elected representatives. Had the American people returned the Republicans to the majority in Congress last November, Gen. Pace would likely have been renominated.

Obviously you don’t agree with the Senate Majority Leader and if a majority of Americans hold that opinion, perhaps we’ll see a change in power again next year. That’s how our government works.

He may have criticized him but that is not the same as calling him incompetent. (Of course inconvenient facts like that never matter to the right)
And lets face it, part of the problem in Iraq is the fact that not enough people have critiqued the leadership of our men and women in the Armed forces.

At this point, keogh, I don’t really expect it to be addressed. Neither of two conservative sources (The Politico and The Weakly Standard) claim that Reid called Petraeus incompetent so either Bruce has a separate source for his statement regarding

Hoo boy, Chase is making this way too easy for me. For starters:

“Yet the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is a political appointee, nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate.”

And Harry Reid voted FOR his confirmation. So why is he flip-flopping now?

“8 months ago the American people elected the Senate that today would have opposed Gen. Pace’s renomination.”

Yet they still passed military spending without the “required” withdrawal date so beloved of you libtards and nutroots. I doubt that they would have the balls to vote down another General Pace. Your argument is without merit.

“Had the American people returned the Republicans to the majority in Congress last November, Gen. Pace would likely have been renominated.”

More conjecture on your part. Frankly, I doubt that Reid and Byrd could must enough votes to block any other nomination of the President to the JCS. Again, argument without merit.

Match, set, game. You lose. We have nice parting gifts for you backstage.

But he didn’t, did he? No – he issued an apology a la Mike Nifong. Too bad he didn’t offer to resign, though.

He may have criticized him but that is not the same as calling him incompetent.

What is incompetent, however, is a chump with his ass parked in DC claiming that a general who’s actually in Iraq “isn’t in touch with what’s going on in Baghdad.”

That, is how you wind up with a 19% approval rating. Well that and not doing a damn thing your job requires. But why let that get in your way when you can enrich yourself with land deals and pump pork into your state?

And lets face it, part of the problem in Iraq is the fact that not enough people have critiqued the leadership of our men and women in the Armed forces.

That’s all the liberals have done the past few years, other than orgasming whenever they die. Seriously. You confirm a general to run the show and then 6 months later decide he sucks balls? How realistic is that? It’s funny how traitors like you are comfortable criticizing our soldiers, but nobody can criticize heroes like Kerry and Murthammud.

Simple. The plot line revolved around Hays as a corporal who got his citation from FDR because he was a “war hero” since he single-handedly captured some Nazi soldiers. What he tells Drusilla (Wonder Girl) is that the Nazis surrendered to him; he didn’t really “capture” them.

Both Dru and Diana (Wonder Woman) help him to get his self-esteem back by letting him capture some bad guys on his own. It’s a really good show – one of my faves of the entire series.
