Not only am I upset by the attempted car bombings in recent days in London and Glasgow, but am incredibly anxious as one of my best friends is currently in Edinburgh, slated to fly back home tomorrow.
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that these bombings took place this week, coming as they do, only days offer a new British Prime Minister, a Scot born in Glasgow, site of the attempted airport bombing, assumed office. It seems the terrorists are trying to test him. Or perhaps, acting at a time when, because of the transition, they assume the Brits would be least on their guard.
Well, given the example shown by that brave cop in London (do we call him a “bobby“?) who defused one car bomb as well as the police in Glasgow who wrestled the drivers of the burning SUV “to the ground,” it seems the terrorists underestimated our friends across the pond.
And let us hope that the new British Prime Minister show the same resolve as his immediate predecessor when dealing with terrorism. The same resolve his most distinguished predecessor of the last century showed when confronting evil.
And praying for my friend’s safe return.
UPDATE: Just noticed that over at Hugh Hewitt’s blog, Patrick Rufini yesterday offered a similar thought to that expressed in this post:
there’s an eerie parallel between today and the 7/7 attacks. Today was the first week of Gordon Brown’s premiership. 7/7 was the first day of the Gleneagles G8 summit. They seem to have a habit of planning to strike when Britain is in the headlines around the world.
UP-UPDATE (07/01/07 11:30 PM PST): He’s back safe and very jet-lagged. 🙂
Of course, to Socialist London Mayor Ken Livingstone, conservative Britons are more dangerous than Muslims.
Just when I think the libtard left has hit the bottom of the barrel, they hit a new low. I wish Baroness Thatcher were in office to give him his come-uppance.

Peter H.
I’m not sure if this foiled bombing attempt was to test the new PM’s resolve or to send him the message to tow the line of appeasement like the rest of Europe.

Given that none of the bombs went off and the Jeep at GLA did relatively little damage, I gotta agree with that.
It was interesting. Yesterday on FNC, they speculated on four events that might have spurred these attempted attacks:
1. Gordon Brown becoming PM
2. Wimbeldon
3. The memorial concert for Princess Di’s birthday.
4. The London Gay Pride parade.
Ummmmm….. I choose door #1 Monty.
Although, it could be all four combined. Wouldn’t surprise me.
#5 – TGC, if choice #4 was one of the reasons, wouldn’t it make sense for al-Qaeda to attack the parades in Rome or Tel Aviv, rather than London? Just a thought.

Peter H.
Interesting points bud. Keep plugging away on the posts. Wish I had the time to get up as many quality posts as you are.

Perhaps, but who’s more involved in kicking al Qaeda ass?
Well I thank God that bumper sticker didn’t do much damage in GLA or the other bumper stickers in London. We might have to hide behind our spouses/partners etc. and beg them to be nice bumper stickers.
What would we do without liberal’s wives to protect us?
“What would we do without liberal’s wives to protect us?”
Um…grow beards, wear turbans, and shout “Allah Akbar?”
At least that is what would happen to the USA if one of them got elected.

No kidding they were a “test” against the incoming PM. Like Iran’s hostage taking at sea. Between America and the UK, the UK is the “weak horse” (to apply Bin Laden’s imagery).
But they’re more than a test – they have real propaganda and morale value for the current crop of underground jihadists. It’s a bit for them to champ at (again, sticking with the horse imagery).
