GLAAD Will Now Allow You To See A Movie…

The Gay Borg have spoken.  You are now permitted to see “Chuck and Larry” with a clear gay conscience.

Sandler made the film with his fan base, a demographic comprised of teenage to 30-something heterosexual men, squarely in mind, according to Damon Romine, entertainment media director for the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.

While the press waits to screen “Chuck & Larry,” Romine has seen the film twice with sample audiences.

“Through this disarming type of comedy, there is this use of stereotypes and slurs, and it holds the mirror up for people to ask, ‘Where does this come from?’ ” Romine said.

At the end of the day, this is a comedy that actually stresses the importance of family and treating others with dignity and respect. The film actually does send a very strong message.”  (GP Ed. Note – And it is always good to see GLAAD using the most overused corporate speak phrase in history.  Way to be creative!)

Please folks…don’t think for yourself, you are just wasting time.  After all, there’s always a Gay Borg group out there to do think and moralize for you.  Resistance and individual thought is futile.

  2. How about seeing it because it might be funny? (At least, I think it will be amusing enough for the rental fee when it’s on DVD.) Shouldn’t that be a good enough reason?

Oh sorry, back to the GLB I go. Sorry I stepped outta line, GLAAD. :-P

  3. #2 – Mike, very well put. Why not just watch the film if you enjoy it?

I had the same problem with “Brokeback Mountain.” Every gay person wanted to go see it. When I finally did weeks later, I wasn’t impressed.

GLAAD must be following in the footsteps of Mao’s “Great Leap Forward” in which the Party tells you that you MUST enjoy this.

Otherwise, you will have to prostrate before Chairman Rosie’s picture and offer a full self-criticism of yourself.

  5. Gay Borg: “You will be ass-imilated. Resistance is fruitile!”

OK, so who is the Gay Borg Queen? Barbara Streisand? Bette Middler? The rotting corpse of Judy Garland? Or do we have to go with someone in drag. The rotting corpse of Divine maybe?

    Comment by sonicfrog — July 12, 2007 @ 11:57 am - July 12, 2007

  6. #5 – SF, I would say the penultimate Gay Borg Queen would be Judy Garland, rotting corpse and all. Remember, Stonewall occurred at the time of her death, so it makes logical sense (or what passes for it in the libtard alternate universe).

  7. The G.B.Q. would be someone absolutely desperate to assimilate everyone to her gay way of thinking. I wouldn’t accuse Judy or Bette of that! And even Barbra, maybe not.

I’d go with someone histrionic from the Gay Left as such. Hmm, Andrew Sullivan comes to mind.

  9. Man, if it were Barbra, I’d officially leave the gay left borg. Please, someone else take her.

  10. Yes, I can see Andrea Sullington as being the EGBQ (Evil Gay Borg Queen). Good choice, ILC.

I officially withdraw the nomination of Judy Garland.

  11. Aunt Sully for GBQ…Huzzah! Huzzah! Huzzah!

The HRC will tell you who to vote for.
GLAAD will tell you watch to watch.
The Style Channel will tell you wear.
Beck’s will determine your personal scent.
And David Bromstad will tell you what your loft’s wall-colors are….

  13. ‘…accepting nominations for our upcoming poll: Who Is The Gay Borg Queen?’

    Did someone call Vera?

    As for GLADD -

While Vera appreciates the attempt by GLADD to pre-digest her pop culture, Vera prefers her entertainment like her booze; undiluted and slightly bitter.

For GLADD to use the latest Adam Sandler laugh fest as a teaching moment seems odd – Wouldn’t the slaughter of gay film director Theo Van Gogh – a man killed for his art – have provided a better example of ‘intolerance’ than Kevin James getting offended by ‘fire hose’ jokes in a make believe fire station?

Actually, GLADD’s self-appointed delicate sensitivities on behalf of the gay community seem more obnoxious than anything Adam Sandler and Kevin James could come up with – at least they’re trying to be funny.

Vera would find it difficult to believe Kevin James as the object of Adam Sandler’s affection, if not for her present location: the tiny hamlet of P-Town, Massachusetts.
Apparently, something known as ‘Bear Week’ is in full swing here and you can’t walk down Commercial Street without bumping into men with the physique of Kevin James and the facial hair of ZZ Top.

Vera’s thrilled that the Bears disdain dieting, shaving and abstinence of alcohol – bless their furry little hearts.

    Cheers!

Are you kidding me? Yeah. Maybe if this was 1967.

Judy Garland?!? Who the &@$# likes Judy Garland?? You’re totally showing your age. Nobody I’ve ever known has ever been into Judy Garland. LOL

I had to look her up on Wikipedia just to make sure she was the one that was in “The Wizard Of Oz”.

AND I just learned Liza Minnelli was her daughter. She’s another one that’s like…. WHO? But now I understand why she’s famous at least.

  15. #14 – Let me see if I can cut through your fog of ignorance, Chaser.

“Judy Garland?!? Who the &@$# likes Judy Garland??”

Well, Chaser, anyone with musical appreciation. Which pretty much excludes you and your ilk, who think the height of pop perfection was Madonna’s “Truth or Dare” film. But I digress.

    “You’re totally showing your age.”

How so? Because I like songs by Judy, Ella, Satchmo and Piaf? Shows you how much you know about good jazz. (Harry Connick, Jr. doesn’t count. And I’ll give you bonus points if you can identify at least half of those people.)

“Nobody I’ve ever known has ever been into Judy Garland.”

Chaser, you are the last person to pontificate on likes and dislikes, considering your disassociation with reality. You remind me of the libtard who, following Reagan’s 1984 landslide victory, said: “None of my friends voted for him, so I wonder why he won?”

Go way in the back and sit down until we call you.

Chase darling, are you kidding Vera?

Vera was hitting menopause in 1967!

Start here and be amazed – these people and places had more class and style than you’ll ever see from the ‘artists’ of today…

    The Blue Angel
    The Bon Soir
    The Downstairs Room
    The Caryle Hotel
    Mabel Mercer
    Marlene Dietrich
    Hildegarde
    Barbara Cook
    Bobby Short
    Nina Simone
    Dorothy Loudon
    Edith Piaf (nice choice Peter)
    Ella Fitzgerald
    Eartha Kitt
    Kaye Ballard
    Eydie Gorme
And yes, even Babs (talent, not intellect)

We’ll not see their kind again, I’m afraid…

    Cheers!

  20. Vera, may I include Shirley Bassey in your list? I had the great fortune to see her perform in Monte Carlo when I was a teenager (in the late 70′s for those who keep track). I was with my mother and grandmother and at first I wasn’t going to going, but I am so glad I did.

  21. #20 – Dave, I just read that Shirley still lives in London, continues to do nightclubs and still has the gams of a woman half her age.

I would love to see a double bill with her and Eartha Kitt – whom I met here in Houston about 7 or 8 years ago at a benefit. She is definitely a dynamic entertainer! (PURRRRRRRRRR-fect…)

  25. Oh, of course. I have no musical appreciation because I’m not interested in jazz or showtunes. I do know Ella and Nina Simone, but would never seek out to listen to their music because it doesn’t interest me. A couple of their songs do, but not their body of work.

Which brings me back to my original point: Judy Garland can’t be the penultimate gay idol when younger to middle aged gay men are no longer interested in her career or music.

If I were on an island and the only thing I had to listen to was Judy Garland, I’d listen to the ocean instead.

    Comment by Chase — July 14, 2007 @ 7:23 am - July 14, 2007

  26. #25. Then younger and middle aged gay men have NO. TASTE. IN. MUSIC.

Madonna was never that great of a singer, and she looks like Alfred E. Neuman in drag. She’s got three tolerable movies to her credit. Any female singer recording and/or performing in 1967, or even in 1977, could mop the floor with her.

    Comment by Attmay — July 15, 2007 @ 2:22 pm - July 15, 2007

  27. Madonna was never that great of a singer.

Only great enough to become the most successful female singer of all-time. Madonna has had more top 10 singles (35) than any other artist except Elvis Presley (38) and has sold more records (250 million) than any other female recording artist.

Hating on Madonna is just futile. She is an icon of pop culture on the same level as Elvis, Marylin Monroe, James Dean and The Beatles. Her achievement in music is without precedent.

And her new album is going to be HOT…. Timbaland, Swizz Beatz, Pharell Williams, Justin Timberlake, Stuart Price…. M is pulling out the big guns this time. She’s going to top the charts once again.

    Comment by Chase — July 16, 2007 @ 3:24 am - July 16, 2007

  28. Look, I actually like Madonna, but she is not a great singer. Having said that, she has brilliantly used the modicum of talent she does possess to become a highly successful entertainer. The stars listed earlier, Garland, Piaf, Bassey, et. al. could walk out on stage, utterly alone and unaccompanied, and bring the house down. Indeed, in the case of Bassey, I’ve seen her do it.

I would hazard to guess that Madonna, without he multiple accoutrement etc., would not fare as well.

    Comment by David — July 16, 2007 @ 1:55 pm - July 16, 2007

  29. First of all, record sales do not equal quality. Look at the charts and try listening to top 40 radio. You’ll hear enough garbage to overwhelm Oscar the Grouch.

Second, Billboard only charts sales to stores, who buy whatever’s new in bulk.

Third, the people you had the gall to compare her to had talent. Real talent. Elvis made some bad movies, but none as bad as some of the ones Madonna made and was a far superior singer. The Beatles were original and gifted musicians who didn’t need to reinvent themselves when their novelties had worn off. Marilyn Monroe and James Dean made better movies and had real sex appeal, and still left something to the imagination.

Madonna is the female PT Barnum of the late 20th century. Misogynistic gay men should be mocking her the way they do every other woman entertainer, not praising her. Madonna is the world’s biggest snow job who is only mentioned as being “great” due to the law of diminished returns. Thanks to her we have to deal with the likes of Britney Spheres and the Skankiest Place on Earth, Christina Aguilera.

I’m not going to go into her delusional politics (she makes Babs look like John Wayne) or her phony baloney British accent (she’s about as British as my dad, who is also from Detroit).

“Oh how I long for the day when someone asks ‘Who’s Madonna?’”
