Indicative of a top-heavy politcal party infighting. Let deVillepan and Chirac strangle each other. I cite deVillepan first as Chirac was mostly venal and egocentric. Remember, deVillepan made an agreement at the UN with Powell on the Iraq action; then in just the time of a ride across Manhattan, he issued a 180 degree statement, causing Powell and the US significant embarassment. His idea of diplomacy is ‘lieing in state’.

Speaking of which, riddle me this GP readers:

If Mr. Sarkozy is from the same political party as Chirac, that would make them (at least in theory) very close in terms of policy, no?

So I find it interesting that Reuters reports that a French rapper was booed for announcing his support of “right-wing” Sarkozy. (Emphasis mine.)

Let’s see…both Chirac and Sarkozy are from the same party…but it is Sarkozy who is dubbed “right-wing” by the media.

Sort of like the AP comparing “centrist” Hillary to “left-wing” Edwards, right?

Oh, wait – the AP never does that. My bad. (SARC)

Odd I haven’t seen much on our American news about the French anti Iraq war leaders being brought up on corruption/bribery charges. Seems the anti war folks are the ones who profited from their stance. Food for oil, etc.

So, Chirac schemed to plant false information to smear a political rival. Sounds similar to what Democrat New York governor Eliot Spitzer apparently did to Republican legislator John Bruno.
