I didn’t vote for Webb not did I want him in the Senate, yet I’m thrilled that one of the candidates the Dems chose to re-take the Congress has such a paper-trail which bites them in the ass. Besides, his analysis of Vietnam is right.

I am an aging Virginian and I too never heard of or from Webb until he turned up knocking George Allen out of the ring. Since his election, all I can glean of the guy is that he has lots of thorns, thin skin and sticks himself a lot on his own thorns. He should be a doable target for defeat if we Republicans don’t run the usual “it’s his turn” candidate against him. Unfortunately, Virginia is the pasturing ground for Republican party functionaries who came to Washington and settled here. Most of those guys expect to be floated into office without doing the hard work.

Frankly, I hadn’t heard of Webb before 06 and I haven’t heard much about him since he dutifully gave the SOTU half-assed “response”. Actually, half-assed is being generous. In all honesty, I figured he’d be a Vince Foster figure by now.

Has he done anything noteworthy?

Webb seems to wear his ulcers on the outside. Rarely have I expected from anger (as in a sixth sense) to gush out of someone as I expect it from Webb.
I think he’s got an issue or two that he bears as a cosmic wrongs.
(Ooops! That’s the old terrorist profile). (Maybe I should have said ‘indifferent to good manners’.)

They better go light on Webb. He is quirky like Captain Queeg and he may toss ball bearings at people who annoy him.
