Every January for Gasparilla Fest, the pirate Jose Gaspar and Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla “invade” Tampa. They land down at the convention center where the mayor surrenders the key to the city and thus starts the Gasparilla Festival.

In the 7 years that I’ve been living here, I’ve never been. It’s my understanding, however, that it’s our version of Mardi Gras. The main parade has all the beads, boobs and beer one could want. Two out of three ain’t bad.
