Jesse Macbeth – The Story Behind A “Phony Soldier”
Courtesy of Michelle Malkin and GatewayPundit. Here’s who Rush Limbaugh was talking about last week.
A man who tried to position himself as a leader of the anti-war movement by claiming to have participated in war crimes while serving in Iraq is facing federal charges of falsifying his record.
Jesse Adam Macbeth, formerly of Phoenix, garnered much attention on blogs and in some alternative media after he began claiming in 2005 to have been awarded a Purple Heart for his service, which he said included slaughtering innocents in a Fallujah mosque. His story was contradicted by his true discharge form, showing that he was kicked out of the Army after six weeks at Fort Benning, Ga., in 2003 because of his “entry level performance and conduct.”
A complaint unsealed Friday in U.S. District Court in Seattle charged him with one count of using or possessing a forged or altered military discharge certificate, and one count of making false statements in seeking benefits from the Veterans Administration…
…Macbeth claimed to have been shot in Iraq and to have suffered post-traumatic stress disorder, LaMont E. Stokes, an agent with the VA’s Office of the Inspector General, wrote in the charging papers. He collected more than $10,400 in benefits to which he was not entitled, Stokes wrote.
Stokes said he interviewed Macbeth in the Pierce County Jail in Tacoma, where he has been serving a sentence for fourth-degree assault, and that Macbeth admitted falsifying the documents because he was homeless and wanted to “sucker” anything he could out of the government.
Iraq Veterans Against the War and other organizations removed his allegations from their Web sites after learning they were false. In one videotaped interview, a skinny, stuttering Macbeth, dressed in a camouflaged jacket, described slaughtering hundreds of people in a mosque: “We would burn their bodies … hang their bodies from the rafters in the mosque,” he said.
Macbeth is truly a Phony Soldier, and media star for the Left Wing Anti-American Caucus.

A phony soldier and a welfare cheat? I think the Democrats may found their primary challenger for Brian Baird.

Or someone to replace the Left’s media darlings of Jon Stewart and Chris Matthews.
How long before the Left cries that Macbeth is being swiftboated by the vast rightwing conspiracy?

I’m not sure what’s more amazing… that these people peddle their stories thinking that no one will check them out OR people who swallow these stories hook, line, and sinker.
Jonah recalls the case of Senator Tom Harking “gilding his war lily”.
Harkin’s service was honorable by itself so why lie about it? Did he think no one would check?

Exactly my thoughts about Rush doctoring his show transcript to make it look like his bringing up Macbeth occurred virtually together with his phony soldiers attack. Except that lo and behold, Rush’ deception has aparently worked at least within wingnuttia.

I think the elephant in the room is that the liberals idolized a man who bragged about such atrocities. If there’s ever any doubt about what sick SOBs liberals like gillie, Ian etc. are….well there it is.

Harkin had the class to imply that Rush was “high again” from the Senate floor. Nice one, ASS.

Ian, we know you sorry assholes hate the military. You put a cherry on top of that the other week when Petraeus appeared before congress. Stop trying to take down everybody else into the cesspool you live in.

Ian, here is the the portion that Rush left out (I got this from MediaMatters ), right before going into the Jesse Macbeth story:
I don’t see how this makes much of a difference.

#6: When you remove all that discussion and splice what remains back together as Rush did, the comment about Macbeth occurs just seconds after the phony soldiers attack so it makes it appear as if the two are linked as Rush has claimed. But it wasn’t seconds, it was at least a minute and a half later that the Macbeth reference came – plenty of time I might add for Rush and/or his producer to have figured out the seriousness of what he had said and bring Macbeth into the discussion to muddy the waters.

“I think the elephant in the room is that the liberals idolized a man who bragged about such atrocities.”
Actually, I would call it the big, smelly, braying donkey in the room (elephants have the sense to be Republican). Liberal idolization of this guy is no surprise to me because in the first instance they discount notions of personal responsibility (for both common criminals and soldiers that claim to have been de-humanized by the evil Bush war machine). There are only two requirements to become an overnight sensation in the Liberal world: (1) a venemous, profane, irrational hatred of George W. Bush; (2) a commitment to committing or excusing heinous atrocities. This entitles one to, at a minimum, a speaking engagement at a prestigious event hosted by Columbia University.

To those that think the part Rush cut out from the transcript means anything, or somehow gave them enough time to “hide their mistake”, I say, you have an attention span that matches this generation. People used to be able to follow a conversation and remember what was being talked about from several minutes back.
“Duh, are you still talking about that? That’s so 2 minutes ago…”
In fact, I remember listening to the show that day. I remember him talking about Jesse MacBeth and others earlier in the show, then he took some calls. During that time he brought up the “phony soldiers” phrase, as though reminding everyone of what had been said before. It’s easy enough for someone to tune in at that moment and misunderstand. But for the folks at Media Matters, who listen to the whole show I’m sure, it was dishonest– yet apparently fairly easy, since no one checks their sources anymore– to take the interpretation they gave it. No one who listened to the whole show that day understood it that way.

I actually think that it’s a cover-up of, among other things, the IBD story which highlights George Soros financing “NASA whistleblower” James Hansen to the tune of $720 large. Not to mention his financing of the illegal immigrant rallys and legal defense for terrorists.
This whole thing is not-so-cleverly designed to distract the uninformed from that, Hillary’s laundered cash, and his financed “Betray-us” bit. You’re supposed to look away at how O’Reilly is supposedly a racist and Rush (despite mountains of evidence to the contrary) is unpatriotic. Furthermore, you’re supposed to be too damn ignorant and stupid to know any better.
Plus, you can’t beat the free spin you get from “people” like Ian.
Comment by ThatGayConservative — October 2, 2007 @ 1:40 am - October 2, 2007
The Sorocrats probably got some focus group data that showed the Betray-us ad was hurting them, and so they decided to cook up this Rush Limbaugh faux scandal, since the Bill O’Reilly faux-scandal wasn’t getting much traction outside the usual left-wing media outlets. Frankly, every time the Sorocrats do this, they end up looking foolish and their targets come out stronger. Remember when Pat Leahy (Sorocrat-Vermont) tried to take down Laura Ingraham?

Oh, and better yet, even as the state is facing bankruptcy, Governor Dingbat gives a sweetheart, no-bid deal to a political croney to lease a new state Police headquarters… even though the State Police don’t want it. Sorocracy in action.

The phony soldiers ploy has been with us at least since Vietnam, when we had the VVAW and Kerry’s Winter Soldiers hearings. Jesse was just one more in a long line of lying scumbags. The only difference was he was motivated by welfare, where in the Vietnam era, it was drugs.
Comment by rightwingprof — October 2, 2007 @ 4:51 pm - October 2, 2007
Correct rightwingprof,
Except one detail–with Jesse it was motivated by welfare AND HATRED OF AMERICA and with the Winter Soldiers it was drugs AND HATRED OF AMERICA.
P.S. Surely your username “rightwingprof” doesn’t mean what it implies, does it? I’ve heard about conservative professors before, but I assumed it was just a myth (or how universities refer to members of the faculty that don’t send donations directly to Al Qaeda). If you are a member of the academic community, my hat’s off to you. I feel like I’m communicating with a unicorn! Are you alright? Have you had to into hiding? Should I send food? Stay strong.

To V the K…can I start using “Sorocrats”???? Love it. Anyway, Rush also does a morning update to tease his show for the day…In the morning update the day before the call in discussion and the day after ABC aired a piece about “phony soldier” Jesse Macbeth…in that morning update he specifically talks about the Jesse Macbeth story and that he will be discussing it on his show. Ian S….just exactly what planet are you really from?????
