Romney Responds to Log Cabin Ad
Breaking from live-blogging coverage of the “Defending the American Summit”… I just got an email from Log Cabin Republicans that GOP Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney has responded to their TV ad attacking him.
Responding to the TV ad Log Cabin just launched today, Romney spokesman Kevin Madden said, “As Governor Romney has repeatedly made clear, like many other Republicans including Ronald Reagan, he wasn’t always pro-life. Governor Romney has said he was wrong and hopes he never stops learning from his mistakes or trying to do what’s right.”
“This personal, negative attack was launched and paid for by a group recognized as having Mayor Giuliani as their ‘favorite’ candidate. Governor Romney supports a federal marriage amendment and so it makes sense that a national gay rights group would attack him. The advertisement misrepresents Governor Romney’s courage to admit that he had been wrong on this issue and the fact that he is proud of his strong record of defending the sanctity of life.”
My question is, as in 2004 with the Bush attack ads, WHERE IS THE FUNDING COMING FROM for Log Cabin Republicans to afford television ads? Can someone answer that question for me?

Good question… and mine is: What genius thought a *gay* Republican group should attack Republicans over *abortion*? (not the FMA / MPA?)

Considering they couldn’t even pay the utilities on the Nat’l HQ office-space a few months ago, I had the same question. And they must be spending money like water since they were running the ad here in the Philadelphia TV-market just this morning…and we’re still 6-months-out from the NJ and PA primaries.
And is it wise to antagonize the camp of a possible GOP Convention-nominee? If Romney’s nominated, the LCR has already bunred it’s bridges and has minimal manevuering-room left at the GOP Convention for defeating anti-G/L platform planks….again. LCR should have stayed out of the national race and concentrated on State and local elections where they do have some traction. That’s the level where you can win some delegates to the Natl. GOP Convention and affect the Platform.
Looks like the LCR will spend the next 5-years out-in-the-GOP Cold…and the Clintons will be redecorating the 2nd floor of the White House…again.

Congrats to LCR for growing a pair. Romney clearly used LCR to help him get elected Governor in Mass by burnishing his image as a moderate.
Defeating anti-Gay planks at the GOP convention???? How about even being allowed to attend the Texas State GOP Convention. I don’t think LCR is giving anything up anything here.
Good for them for standing up for themselves.

Um, Tim Gill. Where else?
And the words “strings attached” probably are not sufficient to describe the requirements of on what they can spend that money….

Bit eyebrow-raising that LCR, which I believe sold its soul on abortion, would do this but ni modo. I can’t stand Romney and if video of his allegedly former views drives conservatives away so much the better.

I’m no Romney fan either…. but I think Dan (GPW) made a good point: How come LCR doesn’t spend some of their newly-found media money against DEMOCRATS?
Gee…. I wonder why? (*cough* George Soros *cough*)

I like the ad, and I think they feel that Romney deserves the punishment. He’s blatantly pandering and it’s stupid. instead of being a leader he choose to try for the “pure” christian vote. I think it’s smart to lambaste republicans who still cling to the bush philosophy of using gays to bring out social conservatives. as for attacking republicans, well politics is chess sometimes.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA
LCR are irrelevant both to gays and to Republicans. You have fight to even get into a lot of the state conventions much less have any influence on the platform. It’s a joke.

LOL….given that LCR spends millions of dollars to ATTACK Republicans, you can see why they wouldn’t be welcome at these sort of events.
