Yesterday, November 5, Logo announced that it is launching the “first-ever half-hour news program for the LGBT audience produced by a major network news operation.” According to the Hollywood Reporter:
The 7 p.m. Mondays “CBS News on Logo” newscast is growing out of a partnership the channel, owned by MTV Networks, has had for two years with CBS News. A dedicated CBS News crew working out of its West 57th Street broadcast center had been producing three-minute interstitials that aired daily on Logo.
Joined by Itay Hod, Chagmion Antoine and other reporters across the nation, Jason Bellini will host the show. Court Passant will executive produce it.
Given that most gay people in the news media have a liberal bias, I did some google searches to see if Bellini might have a background in left-wing politics. Instead, I found j=he’s pretty much been a media professional for his entire career. Beginning his career with CNN, Bellini also worked for MTV before joining Logo. I did find one indication of possible Democratic Party affiliaton, but not enough to suggest that it might color his reporting. He had served as a Democratic page for Congress while a junior in high school.
When commenting last fall about the Mark Foley hullabaloo, he observed, “What most angers me about Mark Foley’s behavior is the violation of trust that, if the program survives, will take years to repair. ” I wonder if he would have said the same thing had he been asked to comment the early 1980s on the behavior of then-Democratic Congressman Gerry Studds. Bellini is exactly right about Foley’s violation of trust. Let’s hope he applies the same standards to Democratic misbehavior that he does to Republican misconduct.
As the show will deal with politics and cover the 2008 election, let us hope that unlike most other gay media institutions, this new one will consider the views of gay conservatives, taking the time to seek out voices outside the gay left mainstream.
And let us hope as well that make a great effort than to seek out more non-leftist gay views than those offered by Log Cabin. For that group clearly doesn’t speak for all gay conservatives. Heck, it doesn’t even speak for a majority of gay Republicans. While that supposedly Republican group failed to endorse the president in the 2004 election, he received (by our best estimates) about three-quarters of the gay Republican vote.
We also hope that this news program will cover important gay issues which the rest of the gay media has been largely ignoring, notably the increasing persecution of gay people in such Islamofascist regimes as Iran.
Given our experience with gay media, our welcome of this new news program may not be as warm as that of other gay bloggers. But, then again, just as this half-hour telecast is pioneering so too might be its coverage of events of the day and larger trends in our community. Perhaps, unlike most “mainstream” gay media outlets, this one will pay attention to gay conservatives, treat us fairly and truly cover the diverse views of gay and lesbian Americans.
Will it Treat Gay Conservatives Fairly?
Or anybody to the right of the Daily Kooks for that matter.
Ah, who cares?
The headline of the hour is: DEMOCRATS TAKE CONTROL OF THE VIRGINIA STATE SENATE.
Now that is good news! The Democrats have another good night, in what has become a healthy string of good nights, in the Commonwealth.
Next year we’ll be going for that other US Senate seat and those all important electoral votes…
But make no mistake, Virginia is going blue.
Let me assure you, Chase that should the Democrats nominate Ms. Hillary and there not be a significant third party candidate, the Old Dominion will stay in the GOP column.

Ahh who cares?
The liberals paid the price for their disaster in Louisiana and my home state of Mississippi kept Barbour.
Assure me? HA! Senator Clinton is polling very well in head to head match ups in Virginia. Against some of the Republican candidates she’s a few points ahead. Against others she’s a few points behind. It’s very close.
Thus, your confidence is misplaced. I’d like to say we could sneak up on ya, but the national party already knows Virginia will be problematic next year. It’s going to be a major battle ground.
Hillary is not going to win.
The mood of the nation is already sour and tense.
This thing with Iran is only going to get worse.. same thing with Pakistan. these are very serious times and Hillary Clinton’s voice alone will kill her.
This country is not going to pick her in the midst of increasing trouble from the Muslim world.
And if she continues to give 5 different answers to every question that aint going to help her either.
Plus we hasn’t even gotten into the effect of all her past scandals coming back to light is going to have.
This country does not want a return of Clinton scandal after Clinton scandal. Democrats like to think they exposed non-ending scandals with Bush.. but Democrats remain the only people to be convinced because no one else in the country was fool by the pseudo-scandals.
This administration is refreshingly low on the number of its scandals… compared to the Clintons where they couldn’t contain them fast enough.
Hillary is not Bill.. she can’t hide behind any charisma.. she has none. And she doesn’t hide that look of annoyance that goes on her fast when someone dares ask her for a position on something.
As usual Democrats have no ability to look at things objectively , so they don’t see any of these things as being true.. that’s their problem.
Plus considering that back in 1993 Hillary Clinton had the White House travel staff false charged with crimes so that her friends can get those jobs , I can’t believe anyone supports her. How could anyone with integrity support a person who would do such a thing?
Maybe some more bundled Chi-Comm cash will do the trick?
Nah. Voters expect better answers than “I don’t remember”. Add to that the fact that voters are going to want to see those documents proving that she’s “uniquely qualified” to be POTUS. Add to that the fact that the voters are going to want more than a veteran Beltway suck-up.
Besides, Huma Abedin probably won’t be able to get her crack snacks anymore. Who am I kidding? Hillary will disguise her in a blue dress and smuggle her into the Oval Oraface for some quality carpet munching and scissoring.
Oh and let’s not forget Hillary’s Islamo-fascist cash.
>Huma Abedin
Is that Hillary’s Rasputin?

That’s Hillary’s “lesbian lover”.

Hell, maybe Hillary can fiind some brainwashed kid or someone with a disease, like Grame, Lockwood, Fox etc., to exploit for victory. Better yet, maybe she could find a kid with a disease.
Dan offers “Perhaps, unlike most “mainstream” gay media outlets, this one will pay attention to gay conservatives, treat us fairly and truly cover the diverse views of gay and lesbian Americans.”
Dan, IF you are STILL in Kansas, click those ruby slippers three times, will ya? It’s all you need to return to the land of sanity.
Oh come on!!!
You expecting fairness from a liberal news outlet. Logo is owned by Viacom and headed by a left-wing nut. Not to mention it’s the only gay channel on cable.
The conservative BASHING is about to begin!!!
Logo Announces First-Ever Half-Hour Gay Newscast:
Will it Treat Gay Conservatives Fairly?
Sure.
And Rosie O’Donnell will be on the cover of the next Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.
Logo did a very good program in 2004 on gay Republicans and the debate over whether LCR would endorse Bush for re-election. It presented a range of gay conservative and libertarian viewpoints.
[If that was the documenatry Gay Republicans, I would say it only did a decent job of showing the debate, it didn’t focus closely on gay Republicans backing the president who were conflicted about their decision because of the FMA endorsement. Better than we normally get, but still not entirely fair. –Dan]
Maybe we should wait until the show actually airs to decide if it’s fair or not. But you have to be aware that if the focus is on gay issues, most of the reporting on Republicans is going to be negatve, not because of any bias but because that’s what the facts will be if they report on what the cadidates have done and said. (There are exceptions and Giuliani certainly changes things for the Republicans should he do well in the primaries.)
Ever since I was a little boy I’ve been hearing from Republicans how easy it was gonna be to beat the Clinton’s. Yet, any time the Clinton name appears on a ballot somewhere, the Republican candidate ends up losing. Go figure, right?
But it’s good you guys remain confident.
What better question is there than this? But Wait!
Chase chimes in.
Indeed! Who cares if gay conservatives are treated fairly and the diverse views of gay and lesbian Americans are covered? Way to go, Chase! You are a paragon of fairness, inclusiveness and diversity worship. I would include more of your litany of liberal psycobabble terms, but I wouldn’t feel right if your sensory system started to smoke.
As a conservative Virginian and a lifelong Republican, I can assure you that when the General Assembly and the governor’s chair are in the complete control of the Democrats the Old Dominion shifts to just a little right of center. Sorry, Chase, but a Virginia Democrat is the low man on the liberal democrat totem pole.
That is not to say that one of them won’t decide to be Hillary’s houseboy. Jim Webb can flip any flop in the pursuit of personal gain.
Good . Are you done here?
I mean you write with such a frking attitude, are you here to troll ? Fighting for “your side”?
You can’t talk about something without being a sneering prissy dick?
I have no idea what the “mood of the country” is. I know what my mood is.
There may come a tipping point when a majority of people vote for state socialism and we conservatives must take a look at how to fiddle the system and adjust to high taxation and the inconvenience of inferior services. After all, people in Europe and parts of the old British Empire have learned to cope with it.
But I will not just stand by and let it happen without an honest, hard hitting opposition. I have marveled at the libs on this site and their unabashed readiness to drool nostrums of ideological polemics in public. If they achieve power, they will be no more prepared to handle it than the foolish mutt that catches the UPS truck tire.
Just pointing out the truth. 1980 was the last time the Clinton’s lost a political race. Whether it’s been Bill’s runs for Governor of Arkansas and President of the United States or Hillary’s runs for US Senate, they know how to run an excellent campaign.
The Clinton’s, they’re not amateurs at this. Anyone, be it a Democrat or Republican, who thinks the Clinton’s are going to be easy to beat next year is a fool.
That’s the cold, hard truth.
Thank goodness you’re here Chase. We would have never known about Clinton’s past electoral victories otherwise!
****Will it Treat Gay Conservatives Fairly?****
Oooooh…HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Surely, you meant that as a rhetorical question!!!
People watch Logo? hehe
PS: liberal flamers piss me off… i hate scrolling down through the comments just to find something actually on topic
The Clinton’s, they’re not amateurs at this.
You wouldn’t know it by her latest performances. Besides, when she can remember what she’s doing, she’s running against Bush who, by the way, isn’t running.
As for Logo, when I first realized we had that channel, I flipped to it and saw an ad for enhancing “that certain part of the male body”. If I had a dollar for every one of that type of ad on Logo, I sure as hell wouldn’t be on GP.
Besides that, Logo has like four movies in it’s r’epertoire and show them over and over.

ahhhh yes, “compassionate conservatism at it’s best. just passing through to mock the self-loathing gay conservatives who apparantly hang out here. leaves one to wonder how in the hell did this site ever make it to to best of glbt blogs.

Simple!
We are “right” all the time!!!
Duh!
My comment was about someone making totally off topic comments just to rope people into a debate not even related to the blog entry.
Oh look, you did it to me!!
I’ve never seen Logo, but I have run across the OutQ channel on Sirius a couple of times. Talk about amateur hour. It makes Air Amerika look slick and professional.
Also, I part company with TGC and give props to Chase’s position. Hillary has some overwhelming advantages in this campaign. She has the entire MSM backing her, and acting as an unpaid PR firm. She has unlimited access to laundered ChiCom campaign donations. Her campaign operation is filled with experienced attack dogs and operates with a mafia-like efficiency that parallels her own ruthless, amoral ambition. And as for her opposition, the Republican party has no themes and no vision, and the Republican leadership is far out-of-touch with the base on economic security and immigration.
I can’t stand gay channels. Lifetime was bad enough.. I have even less interest in dreary movies filmed in the projects in Europe where everything is drab and everyone weighs 60 pounds and wears wool.
I rather watch porn.
Senator Clinton is polling very well in head to head match ups in Virginia.
Meanwhile on the national scale, ABC/WSJ has her almost tied with Rudy G.
I watch Logo occasionally. But yes, they do show the same things over and over. I wish they would branch out and show more British things that we haven’t already seen in the US. But I also suppose there is pressure from Viacom to show things that are cheap or that they already own the rights to like QAF.
Houndentenor, I think you really get at one of Logo’s biggest problems. It may well be too expensive for them to show the things that would truly justify a gay network, gay-themed stuff that is not otherwise accessible to an American audience.
I think the reality is that the purpose of Logo is to make money not to serve the needs of the gay and lesbian community. Viacom is trying to make profit off a niche market. I’m not in any way opposed to that, but it means that they have to do things in a way that makes money, not in the way that shows us what we want to see.

It says the answer is “Most Assuredly Not”
Pshh…like we didn’t see that one comin’…stupid Magic 8-Ball….
