I bought the bottom-most MacBook back in July, and just recently shoved 3 gigs of RAM in it. A really sweet little box, and I have had more than one person do a double-take then stop to look at it when I am on airplane flights.

My next desktop machine will be one of the iMacs.

When I was planning tomove out, after my wife’s infidelity, I bought a top of the line PC, since I don’t use it for anything high end, I’ll likely use my 2gig XP box for the next 5 years or so.

I still have the same computer I got 3-4 years ago. Therefore, to be a good liberal, you should probably give me your computer and throw in you iPhone for good measure. It’ll make you feel all warm and fuzzy since, in your mind, I’m too stupid to do better on my own and require your benevolance to continue existing.

I’m sure, you will find, that’s the only way to asuage your guilt of affluenza. Just ask Pete & Dan.

Pardon me, Dan, but didn’t you just get a new computer a year ago?

That’s really not that long for a computer. I bought my laptop, mac mini and iphone all in a three month stretch from june to september. Which I paid for mostly by selling the stuff I had bought last year. Because if you sell your electronics when they still have value, recycling a good portion of your money, then you can have nice, new stuff often, rather than once every few years. Look at me, I’m a little capitalist. o:-)

Yes, because so many lay-people want to mess around with Linux. I’m a Computer Engineering major, and my philosophy on the matter is, that, while, yeah, I could certainly set up and use Linux, no problem, why bother when Apple offers an operating system that is at least equivalent on so many low-level functions, compatible with the Unix X-11 windowing interface, and includes some really slick proprietary technologies from Apple (like Spotlight and Time Machine). Plus it’s easier to use, meaning that I don’t waste my time needlessly.

Anyhow, if you couldn’t tell, I like Macs. And I’m extremely jealous of your slick new machine. My 2+ year old iMac G5 (no camera or remote…) is really starting to feel awfully slow.

My brother bought a Mac Book a couple weeks ago. It’s cute, but I still prefer Windows. Apple is so snobby, lol. Of course, I do have an iPhone and also a Mac Mini connected to my TV, so I hardly boycott Apple or anything, lol… But I must have a Windows PC as my primary laptop.

I write software for a black box device that runs Windows XP (for embedded systems) and, like most offices, our desktops and laptops run Windows (all XP). No one there (especially the I.T. department) wants to go near Vista.

Not a day goes by that I don’t get just a little more exasperated by Windows’ legion idiosyncrasies/bugs/annoyances.

My next machine at home will be a Mac. I’m sure they have their rough edges but at least it will be different.

When I get my shiny new Mac, I plan on sending a picture of it to Bill Gates (or whoever is in charge of the Windows product). It won’t make any difference at all but I’ll feel better.

The next version of Microsoft Windows will be even buggier and more counterintuitive than the last. That one you know perfectly well, of course — I don’t know why I bothered to include it. – John Derbyshire
