Agreed, Chandler, that was a great scene. I teared up as well.

And Julie, I totally agree with you about Patricia Clarkson. Best supporting actress anyone?

Glad to hear "Lars and the Real Girl" is a good movie. It's also product placement done right. As opposed to "Steven King's The Mist" where even the trailers place cars center stage.

I really, really love Patricia Clarkson. That, plus GPW's review, might just get me to the local movie house this holiday season.

I have not seen the film but I would ask you to elaborate on a comment you made. You say..."we see brother Gus reacting as we would expect a man to react...while his wife Karen shows a little more compassion...."
Could you elaborate on that?
Thanks.

If only Hollywood would make more movies like this.
The people were real, you mentioned the 'Plain Jane' who works in the same office with Lars. She was a real person, not a bimbo. The brother Gus, gives a wonderful talk about what it means to be a man, while folding the laundry in the basement.
The only thing that was Hollywood, was the town. No such kind loving caring non judgmental place really exists. But that's ok, that is what the movies should be for, to tell a story about important human relationships, even if it is in a fairy tale setting.

[...] GayPatriotWest added an interesting post on Lars and the Real Girl & the Power of MoviesHere’s a small excerptI just saw a movie which reminded me what I had come to Hollywood, wanting to write movies. Ten years ago, seeing a film with a theme not too different from Lars and the Real Girl (the flick I just saw) helped make me a film buff. … [...]
