PlanetOut and apparently the New York Times, are now pushing the myth that Saddam’s Iraq was a peaceful, kite-flying paradise… for gays and lesbians.

This meme – which I’m sure we’ll be hearing more of, from our nuttier leftie, tacitly-pro-Saddam commentors – is a neo-Stalinist re-write of history, and yet another example of the Left’s “misplaced blame” disease.

Because, if gays are being persecuted by “religious extremists” in the new Iraq – IN ADDITION to their previous persecution under Saddam – Well, WHO are those “religious extremists”? (Hint: a… l… Q… a… e…….. and others who are backed / misled by Iran.) And shouldn’t we, as gays, then be opposing al Qaeda and Iran? And supporting those who fight against them? Rather than pining (implicitly or explicitly) for Saddam?
