Remembering Our Troops At Christmas

Out of all the Christmas videos I’ve seen from the candidates on both sides of the political spectrum, I think that Fred Thompson’s campaign did the best job:

h/t Ace of Spades

With all the hustle and bustle of the Holidays, and the focus on faith and family, things like this remind us that no matter what our political views are we should take a moment to say “thanks” to the men and women in uniform who defend our freedoms. Many of them are away from their loved ones because of their service and just a simple “thank you” can help brighten their day. If you want to do more, and can spare anything, please consider giving to a worthy cause that supports our soldiers, sailors, Airmen an Marines. Here are some that I particularly recommend:

  • America Supports You
  • Any Soldier
  • Armed Forces Children’s Education Fund
  • Armed Forces Relief Trust
  • ECarePackage.com
  • Fisher House
  • Help For Heroes (for our Brit friends, who’ve stood by us countless times)
  • Operation Gratitude
  • Project Valour I/T
  • Semper Fi Fund
  • USO

    Merry Christmas everbody!

    1. AGJ, thanks for showing us who the real heroes are at this Christmastime.

Hubby and I had at least 200 teddy bears we had saved up throughout our relationship (we gave each other teddy bears when we wanted to “make up” after a fight – go figure). We arranged for those toys to be distributed through the US Army’s local “Toys for Tots” so that kids who had lost parents in Iraq or Afghanistan would have a merry Christmas.

Plus, I just got finished donating blood for the troops. For those who say the “101st Keyboard Division” doesn’t do anything for the WOT, I say BAH HUMBUG!

Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy 2008,

    2. (Peter’s note – sorry if this is a double post):

AGJ, you are correct. These are the “real” heroes of the Christmas season.

Hubby and I had amassed over 100 teddy bears throughout our relationship (we bought them for each other after a fight – need I say more?). Through the US Army’s “Toys for Tots” program, all those teddy bears are getting a new home for kids who’ve lost parents in Iraq or Afghanistan. One special bear in particular – one of my favorites – was to be given to a child who had no other presents from a parent.

So much for the myth of the “101st Keyboard Brigade.” We ARE doing are part for the war effort.

Merry Christmas and a Happy 2008,
      Peter H.

    3. These are the men and women who really deserve our thanks this time of year.
I haven’t given up on Thompson as a candidate, who knows, maybe he will surprise us in more ways than this ad.
