Are College Kids This Stoopid?

Please tell me that our yoot aren’t going to fall for this scam-o-rama.

Planes generate tons of CO2, carbon dioxide emissions, which experts agree are a leading cause of global warming. StudentUniverse.com wants to help students see the world, but also wants to do its part to help protect it. In addition to being a 100% Carbonfree business, the company will introduce ECO2llege Class as an option in fall 2007. By choosing to fly ECO2llege Class, students can help offset the global warming impact of their flights by purchasing renewable energy credits (RECs) that fund renewable energy projects around the U.S.A.

Give me a break. This “carbon free” stuff is a bunch of hooey. And these carbon offsets crap have become the biggest Ponzi scheme ever created.  I defy someone to actually bring me some of the carbon that has been saved… bring me a bottle of it.   Or a tree that didn’t die because of “carbon offsets”.  Or an ozone molecule that wasn’t destroyed because of the magic of “carbon offsets”.

  2. Carbon Offsets: even less valuable than the American dollar.

Offsets would be hillarious if the idea weren’t gaining followers …sort of like Scientology. Still, I can’t believe people over age 23 will fall for the carbon offset BS, or any of its various, hillarious, associated money-making schemes. Then again, there IS a sucker born every minute. Let’s hope our Senators don’t fall into that category. Fingers crossed.

  3. Carbon credits and offsets are aptly compared to purchasing indulgences.

For those who don’t believe in sin to begin with or have no concept of what an indulgence was or the purpose or situations where they were sold perhaps it would work to compare carbon credits and offsets to dieting.

What I eat is what I eat and the results are the same. Paying a skinny person so that I can eat her pizza does not *reduce* in any way shape or form any fatness from the world. It just *doesn’t*.

  4. I do not support carbon offsets. If one truly wished to use less energy, a better alternative would be to walk to a grocery store or such. Not only does that save energy, you also save yourself a bit of money, rather than sending money to someone else. Carbon offsets are a ponzi scheme to capitalize on one’s liberal guilt.

  5. Guess what it takes to earn dollars, even if they’re just worthless pieces of paper being spat out of the Fed’s printing presses? Fuel. Guess what a probable byproduct of refining, processing and transmitting this fuel is? CO2. Oops?

Nevermind that CO2 is a highly lagging indicator of global warming, it looks like they don’t teach basic global science or chemistry; which would detract from “Humans are Evil and Must Die” field of studies.

  6. Please don’t undercut this carbon offset strategy. It is very successful at beginning to think about lowering man’s contribution to destroying mother earth. It is only those deniers who take pot shots at those of us trying to save the planet for all of us. After all, if we start now our children will have a much cleaner and more productive life. Full of happiness and joy. I have started my own carbon offset company…if you wish to join the fight and help the children, please start by sending $100 to fund my company. grpcleanupearth.net

  7. We can do the kids one better – homework offsets.

For a small fee, instructors will overlook missed assignments by marking down another student.

  8. This seems like a great way to separate the ignorant (liberals) from their money. Is that so wrong?

  9. I respectfully disagree with your view of carbon credits.

I myself started a business called ‘CarbonGone’ in which I hold lectures that teach people how to make thousands of dollars a month by selling carbon credits in their free time. And you never have to leave your house!

If you like, I can send you a free DVD that will explain everything in detail and get you started on the path to a life of luxury and ease. The two-disc set is free, all you need to do is pay $79.99 for shipping.

Don’t delay, there are literally thousands of your neighbors who are already earning in the high eight digits with this can’t-miss program.

  10. LOL.. That was pretty good Bishop.

Reminds me of this radio commercial thats’ been on recently about how you can open a internet store on your computer and just rake tens of thousands of dollars a month and dont need to actually do anything to earn it.
