#1: ILC, getting Jonah on here is one thing but I don’t think we’ll get a Derb interview anytime soon (and Derb is one of my faves).

#3: Vince, I’ve been reading every issue of NR for 15 years or so and while there may not be “anti-gay” (depends on definition) sentiment, I’ve not seen much sympathetic to the needs of gay couples. Some writers (e.g. Ponnuru, Kurtz, K-Lo) seem to cling to the idea that allowing gays marriage (or civil unions) will magically destroy the nuclear family and screw things up for The Children.

I certainly don’t have to agree with all their opinions to enjoy the mag and the website immensely (especially since Florence King is back).

Hugo Chavez is a great example: he is socialist and he is nationalist… we should not be surprised that we see Chavez following Hitler’s and Mussolini’s path in terms of one-party dictatorship, ending dissent, etc.

Taranto has a little note on Sullivan, who is so nutty, he recently became “the only person ever to suggest that there’s a vast right-wing conspiracy working *for* Mrs. Clinton”. Sullivan advanced a conspiracy theory (which Taranto quotes) that Bush secretly wants a Hillary victory, for to obtain Clinton and Democratic buy-in on an endless “occupation” of Iraq. Well, I hope Sullivan is at least right that President Hillary won’t run from Iraq.

Next, it seems that Confederate Yankee finally has the official statements of Scott Beauchamp’s fellow soldiers… and they do not reflect well, on The New Republic or on Beauchamp. He will have more to say later.

In fact I dont see much support for social conservativism there.

At the risk of opening up a collosal can of worms, and making my self sound like an a**hole at the same time, I wanted to drop some thoughts on Capitalism’s second line above. Leaving out the loony-right-”all-gays-are-the-devil” blithering idiots, I think Mr. Goldberg’s (any relation to Bernie? ) attitude is emblematic of many on the right; I think Tammy Bruce referred to Dr. Laura (who has been accused frequently of “homophobia”) as one who “…hates the sin, loves the sinner.” Besides, Jonah is coming on to talk about his book, not discuss homosexuality or his opinions on it, or castigate others for their choices or whatever (unless it’s in relation to his book). BTW, I have bought the book, but have yet to have a chance to read it.

My memory is vague, but it seems to me that Jonah is one of many whom the hyper-sensitive and hysterical Andrew Sullivan has accused of “homophobia”, at some point.
