Hey GPW. I have a bone to pick with you. It isn’t about your ideas or views. I tend to agree with those. It’s about your atrocious grammar. At my house we play a game whenever you post something new; “Find the Incomplete Sentence”. Here it is for this post:

“Bolton’s presence at their convention is a sign that, despite recent ad campaigns, of a change in the direction of Log Cabin, an increased commitment to conservative ideas, especially by inviting a man so reviled on the left.”

I’ll let the unnecessary comma after “campaigns” slide (I understand typos), but the sentence itself is meaningless. “Bolton’s presence…is a sign that…”…what? To make the sentence read properly you’d have to add two words “there is” before “an increased” but that still leaves the incorrect final part of the sentence suggesting that it was “Bolton’s presence” or “the sign” that did the inviting. Basically you need to tear down the entire sentence and start from scratch. How about this:

“Bolton’s presence at their convention is a sign that, despite recent ad campaigns of a change in direction, Log Cabin has increased its commitment to conservative ideas.”

(“especially by inviting a man so reviled on the left.” is redundant).

Perhaps you think I’m being too picky about this, but I see it in your postings all the time and this to me is shocking from someone who does as much writing as you. Take a cue from your co-blogger GP and my fifth grade English teacher and “K.I.S.” (I left off the final “S” because I don’t think you’re stupid.) “Keep it simple!”

I caught Amb Bolton on The Daily Show pumping his book… Stewart was abusing him with a cattle prod and Bolton acted like he was on the Comedy Station’s other news show, Meet The Press. Serious, thoughtful, weighty observations to Stewart’s gutter puns didn’t make Amb Bolton look good; just a tool. I think his stint at a LCR event would end up the same way… except he won’t have the feedback of audience laughter to tell him when the crowd isn’t taking him seriously….

I think we’ve set the benchmark for reformation at the LCR waaaaay too low if this qualifies as even a slight indication of the LCR turning away from their dark past.

The leadership could begin that reformation with a mea culpa of their decision not to endorse Bush 43, slip into bed with the GayLeft for 6+ yrs, et cetera. Til that happens, I doubt even inviting AnnCoulter, JudgeBork, BillKristol and RushLimbaugh to the conference could reverse the LCRs’ track record of JudasReDeux inside the GOP.

Speaking of which, has anyone seen this story regarding how gay groups are “frustrated” at the way the campaign is going?

Very telling opening graph here: “Few constituencies are as eager for the Republican Party to falter this political season as gay-rights activists.”

Huh?? What about LCR? What about us, for goodness sakes?

Here, let me fix that line:

“Few constituencies are as eager for the Republican Party to falter this political season as LIBERAL gay-rights activists.”

Now it makes more sense.

Umm… Mark, would Bolton be SoS in a Romney Administration? Is Bolton one of Romney’s advisors, now? The question is important to me because if it were the case, I’d raise my estimate of Romney.

And I agree, this is a good thing. We are a CONSERVATIVE party but with many different parts. I am a strong Romney backer, but one of the reasons I support Mr. Romney is his belief in the Reagan coalition. It was home to all kinds of conservatives. And, it reached out to those Democrats who opened their eyes to the fact that the party they may have once believed in is theirs no more. I understand that as a gay/lesbian group within the Republican party we disagree on such topics as same-sex marriage. But, on the core of what it means to be a Republican and a conservative, we should all be on the same page. And, Bolton has to be the secretary of state in a Romney administration!

I’ve heard John Bolton being interviewed on different radio shows. He is very impressive. If inviting the likes of John Bolton is the new direction that Log Cabin is taking, that is a very good sign indeed.
Though I must say I’m not that excited about the attention the convention is giving the movie to the Movie: ‘For the Bible tells me so’, from the online preview it looks like your typical – crazy Christians hate us, all Christians are really bigots and evil. Is that because it is easier to criticize Christians rather than say, Muslims who are actively murdering gay people?
