Bruce, while it “says” it all it is also a devastingly simple ad effectively targeted to conservative GOP voters leaning to support the BigMo in this race.
After McCain’s recent stunts at misportraying Romney’s position on the Iraq War, I’m kind of hoping we see more of these anti-McCain ads before superTuesday. Fair is fair when he wants to play unfairly.
Strange it seems to me that MSM pundits talk about how large the segment is of people who “hate” Sen Clinton, but when it turns to the questions of conservative distain/distrust of McCain, it’s a “problem” that needs some gentle “outreach” by McCain to conservatives… as BillBennet likes to opine. Why can’t the MSM talk about how deeply folks “hate” or “loathe” McCain?
As a long time politico, it may be the most brutally honest and effective ad I’ve seen in a long, long time.

I heard Sen McCain say last week that he would vote for the defeated Immigration Bill if it was brought up in the same form again…but he quickly said , there is no chance of that so why ask the question. BUT, if he wins and the Dems increase their holds on the House and Senate, there is a good possibility that same bill WILL come up for a vote. And PRESIDENT McCain just said he’d sign it. True Conservatives, Limbaugh and even Romney should be replaying this McCain quote from the highest mountains. This is the second or third highest priority for most all Americans.

So Hillary and McCain are the same on Illegal Immigration. They are both anti corporation. MCain rips oil and pharma companies as much as Hillary. So they are both anti capitalism. On another issue….free speech, It was McCain Feingold not McCain/Clinton campaign finance reform. So Sen MAC is worse on free speech.
Oh and the MSM is already turning on McCain. Matthews tuesday nite said “boy Sen McCain looks terrible, he’s looking like the campaign is really taking it’s toll.” If he wins the nomination, get ready for a weeks worth of HARDBALL topic: how old is too old?

The first three items sound a lot like Reagan.
Comment by Crow — January 31, 2008 @ 2:43 pm - January 31, 2008
1) California tax increases
2) Reagan the Gun Grabber: http://www.keepandbeararms.com/newsarchives/XcNewsPlus.asp?cmd=view&articleid=2955
3) 1986 Amnesty
So the ad is sort of accidentally making McCain look like Ronald Reagan, at least if you are familiar with Ronald Reagan’s record.

Because folks don’t. There are two kinds of conservatives: the vocal ultra-right wing evangelicals who still haven’t forgiven McCain for calling Jerry Falwell “an agent of intolerance,” and then there’s the great silent majority — the base of traditional, Reagan Republicans who support a winning platform of a strong national defense and smaller government. For those of us in the latter group, McCain is our guy. (And Florida poll results show McCain winning among both voters who consider national security the top issue and those who consider the economy to be.) So don’t think that all folks “loathe” him just because his supporters don’t make as much noise — we may not be as vocal but I guarantee we are greater in numbers.

McCain is for smaller government? That’s gotta be a joke. He tried to derail Bush 43′s CUT in income tax rates! How is McCain Feingold smaller government. He wanted “the people” to not be able to criticise candidates 60 days from an election! If Bushs tax cut had not gone into effect, the House and Senate would have spent more of our tax money not less!

My latest question is if he negotiates with liberals for lower court judges, what’s he going to do when it comes time to replace Ginsburg and Stevens?

Hillary = wants socialized medicine
Romney = actually achieved socialized medicine in Massachusetts
Who’s more liberal now?

Romney = actually achieved socialized medicine, with Ted Kennedy standing right next to him

Hillary.
What I came to say: Steyn on McCain (hmm, it rhymes):

Bla (#6)…
Uh….. I would hardly classify myself as falling in your first category!
Instead, the reason I loathe McCain is pretty obvious. He has stuck a stick in the eye of conservatives on a *variety* of issues:
Amnesty, tax cuts, free speech, global warming, etc.
McCain should be on stage tonight with Hillary and Obama… it is where he seems most comfortable based on his record and public statements.
Comment by GayPatriot — January 31, 2008 @ 5:26 pm - January 31, 2008
Doubtful. McCain would vastly expand government (and as Senator, already has).

I don’t loathe John McCain.
There is Capt. John McCain, the honest-to-god war hero who, along with countless others, suffered terribly in service to his country. He was a brave and honorable soldier who, given his family connections, could have spent his tour in Pearl Harbor. But he didn’t and that demands our respect and admiration.
And then there’s Sen. John McCain who disdains those of us who “serve for profit” (uh, Mac, that’s where the money for the gummint comes from). The petty McCain who cusses out his colleagues and never seems to miss a chance to stick his finger in our eyes. I’m not all that fond of that McCain.

Same here. Just his politics.
Hugh Hewitt sums him up bes, something like thist: Great American… Lousy Senator… Awful Republican.
