I’ve been holding onto this story (thanks to Peter Hughes for the link!) for a few days….
Obama’s Gay Gold Mine – LA Weekly
During this long and bare-knuckled presidential-primary season, a campaign will get nowhere without very big money. And next to New York City, Southern California — more precisely, the Westside of Los Angeles — is the land cash-hungry politicians never ignore. But only a handful of people in this town have the contacts and relationships to deliver the big checks. It’s an elite world, and one that Jeremy Bernard and Rufus Gifford are capable of dominating.
It’s the kind of night they signed up for a year ago, when they decided to work for Obama. Hillary Clinton’s campaign offered them a job too, and for more money, but Bernard and Gifford just couldn’t see themselves raising the big bucks for a candidate who they felt was largely running on Bill Clinton’s presidential record, which wasn’t always good to gays.
On February 1, 2007, Bernard and Gifford went to work, but the campaign infrastructure for Obama in California was sketchy. “There was nothing,” Bernard says. Veteran political operative Mitchell Schwartz, for example — who has worked for Barbara Boxer, Bill Clinton and Gray Davis, among others — wasn’t hired as the California political director until August. With the help of a few other true believers, Bernard and Gifford took on the added duties of advance men, political strategists — and even Obama’s bodyguards, when he came to California during those first six months.
Clearly the gays have moved from Hillary to Obama.

Thank God. Maybe the gay left can move past the battered wife syndrome and actually expect and (dare I say) get? some results from Obama. With Clinton, I feel like it’s a countdown until she sells us out again.
I’m not sure whether to laugh or cry. Makes no difference to me, neither Obama or Clinton deserve the nod.
Judging by lefties’ comments on this blog the last few months, Showbama is “in” among gays. Then again, several of the Showbama fans were just sockpuppets in Ian’s Travelling Locust… so it’s hard to be sure.
It may be that Left gays are finally showing a smidgeon of self-esteem, in not supporting Clinton who screwed us over and over. Then again, it would be more convincing if the same gays had self-esteem enough to know that the War on Terror is pro-gay and important, which they don’t know (if they support Showbama)… so again, it’s hard to be sure.
#2 – Good observation, ILC.

It’s just another group of Belle Watlings trying to buy themselves cocktail-party invites.
Yeah they’ll move past that like blacks will move past racism and “injustice”. There’s no money or prestige in getting over victimhood and being self reliant. The libs wouldn’t be able to hoist them up as a poor, pathetic soul when they need sympathy (aka. cash & votes).
Besides, the libs won’t let too many gays wander off the plantation.
What strikes me is the notion that liberals have any money. I mean, we’re all supposed to believe that Republicans have it all, right?
#1: “With Clinton, I feel like it’s a countdown until she sells us out again.”
For Hillary to “sell you out” she first would have had to promise you something.
That’s what I thought was hilarious, TGC; Obama whining about the poor in this country and how evil and wasteful the rich are, then having his gay impresarios round up people at $2,300 a pop to be in his lordly presence.
Someone should ask the Magic Negro why rich people should give him money to buy signs and ad campaigns instead of buying health insurance for the people he sobs over because they don’t have it.
“I can’t afford to pay my bills but, by God, I have a $35.00 Obama hoodie and $20 T-shirt!!!”
If his constituents shopped at Wal-Mart, they wouldn’t pay those prices.
