Save Us, Sarah Connor!

If you haven’t caught “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles“, definitely check it out tonight on FOX at 9pm Eastern.

In the meantime, I sure hope this scientist is right… that the machines won’t kill us BEFORE the year 2029.

Machines will achieve human-level artificial intelligence by 2029, a leading US inventor has predicted.  Humanity is on the brink of advances that will see tiny robots implanted in people’s brains to make them more intelligent, said Ray Kurzweil.

“I’ve made the case that we will have both the hardware and the software to achieve human level artificial intelligence with the broad suppleness of human intelligence including our emotional intelligence by 2029,” he said.

“We’re already a human machine civilisation; we use our technology to expand our physical and mental horizons and this will be a further extension of that.”

Humans and machines would eventually merge, by means of devices embedded in people’s bodies to keep them healthy and improve their intelligence, predicted Mr Kurzweil.

Do any of these folks ever stop to think if they SHOULD be doing this kind of research?   Aristotle, where art thou?   Are ethics even taught in our finer institutions of learning these days?

Will Dems’ Gay Super-Delegates Determine Nominee?

In the ultimate example of identity politics, sexual segregation and pandering….. the Washington Blade reports on the “self-identified gay superdelegates” to the Democratic National Convention.

Twenty-one openly gay Democrats have been identified as super delegates to the Democratic National Convention in Denver this summer, and 12 have declared their support for presidential hopeful Hillary Rodham Clinton.

As of this week, just two of the gay super delegates had declared their support for presidential contender Barack Obama, while seven were listed as undeclared.

Will they be part of the “superdelegate solution” to a contested nomination?

The Conservative Homosexual Agenda?

There has been vigorous email debate today among the GayPatriot crowd, and a good suggestion was made to make it a posting:   What would be the elements of a “conservative” homosexual agenda?  The debate began after a few of us read this news item from Matt Barber at Townhall.com.

As with every major political movement, the homosexual lobby is pushing a specific agenda. It is often called the “gay agenda.” At its core is a concerted effort to remove from society all traditional notions of sexual morality and replace them with the post-modern concept of sexual relativism. That is to say, when it comes to sex, there is never right or wrong.   All sexual appetites are “equal.” If it feels good, do it.  Ultimately, the homosexual lobby’s primary objective is to radically redefine our foundational institutions of legitimate marriage and the nuclear family by unraveling God’s natural design for human sexuality. In so doing, they hope to elevate their own spiritual and biological counterfeit and establish a sexually androgynous society wherein natural distinctions between male and female are dissolved.  This creates cultural and moral anarchy.

Our email exchanges all agreed that Mr. Barber was a bit over the top…. but there was some validity to his overall premise.  There is a radical LIBERAL gay agenda. So logically, blog ally VtheK brought forth the question open for debate now:

It begs the question of what a conservative homosexual agenda would look like.  I guess where that would get bogged down is on the issues of marriage and adoption.   It’s difficult to reconcile an agenda that would, presumably, seek those things while retaining traditional values.   I guess the approach would have to be two-fold.  1.) Declaring that marriage as an institution should be defined by voters, not by judges and  2.) That gay relationships should model monogamy and commitment as ideals, and that the expectation of monogamy and commitment should be normalized within the gay community.

Have at it.   My only remaining question is… why is it left to us to develop the Gay Conservative Agenda, when last I checked there were people giving money to Log Cabin (Republicans) to do that kind of work???   Oh… yeah…. I forgot:   they are too busy being giddy about government payouts.

From LCR email entitled, “Free Money!”

President Bush this week signed a huge economic stimulus package.  Most Log Cabin members will receive a check from Uncle Sam in the amount of $600 dollars, and we hope you’ll consider stimulating Log Cabin by donating all or part of your tax rebate check.

Hmmm.. how “very Human Rights Campaign” !

LCR=gay conservatives?   Sure, and I’m a purple cow.

UPDATE (from Dan):  Sorry I haven’t had much time to weigh in on this topic, but it is something that I have considered for some time.  I think the basic gay conservative agenda is a word we hear less and less frequently from the lips of the heads of gay organizations — and read less and less often in their statements and press releases — and that word is “freedom.”  Leave each individual free to live his life as he chooses.  Of course, that is just the beginning, but it is also the unifying theme. And then, there’s the fundamental issue of what we do with that freedom.  But, that, Senator Obama notwithstanding, is not a question for the political sphere.

Yes We Can!

MTV CASTING CALL:
True Life documentary series

I was contacted this week by the folks at MTV.  (Yeah, I was surprised too!)   They are looking to cast some folks for an upcoming episode of their documentary series, True Life.

True Life:  I Live Another Life On The Web

We are currently producing a documentary for MTV about people who live “other lives” online.

Do you sometimes feel as if you’re living a double life? Are you pretending to be someone you’re not?  Do you have one identity in your everyday life, but a different one when you’re alone and on-line?  Does your virtual avatar make you feel confident behind your computer screen?  Are you famous online but feel like you’re invisible in real life?

Do you have trouble approaching someone for a date in person, but when you’re behind the comfort of your computer, do the words just flow?  Would you be afraid to be yourself if you were ever to come face-to-face with your online friends or companions?  Do you get so caught up in the person you pretend to be on the web that you maintain that persona in person?

If you appear to be between the ages of 16 and 28, and live another life on the web, email your story to: brosen@leftright.tv    Please be sure to include your name, location, phone number and a photo, if possible.

I think they wanted ME to bite on this.  Frankly, what you see here is who I am… kinda boring, eh?  The funniest part of this for me was the last line.  “If you appear to be between 16 and 28″….  Heh, heh.  Oh, and what IS an “avatar” anyway?   *showing my age and online ignorance*

So all of you online superstars… here’s your chance!

Showing Solidarity: The Mohammed Cartoon Lives!

Now that we are back on-line…. I think there is no better way to kick off the return of GayPatriot with a statement supporting freedom of speech.  (h/t- Michelle Malkin)

1mowest.jpg

We are proud to reprint the Mohammed Cartoon as a show of solidarity with Denmark and the cartoonist who faces death by Islamists.

The reported target of the alleged plot was Kurt Westergaard, one of 12 cartoonists commissioned by the Jyllands-Posten newspaper to produce caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed two years ago.

Westergaard’s cartoon, which was reprinted by Jyllands-Posten today, was seen at the time as the most controversial, as it depicted the prophet with a bomb in his turban. “The security service has not wanted to run any risks and chose to act at a very early stage,” Jacob Scharf, Denmark’s police intelligence service chief, said. “Tonight’s operation has been a preventive measure.”

Police raided several addresses at 5am this morning, detaining five men – three Danish nationals and two foreigners.

I shall not submit.

Romney’s Withdrawal/Log Cabin’s Absence of Class

I’m just returning from a vacation/study session in Vegas where I joined some grad school classmates in looking at modern interpretations of the Grail Legend. For that reason, we stayed at the Excalibur hotel as we prepared to attend a presentation of Spamalot (the main reason for our journey).

We were watching that comedic re-imagination of the Celto-Christian legend as the SuperDuperTuesday returns were announced.*

Yesterday, I preferred spending time with my friends to blogging on the election results. And today, as I drove back to LA, I wasn’t even listening to the news (or talk radio), focusing on the road, letting my mind wander and stopping at an Outlet Mall to buy presents for friends and nieces.

I had not learned until a friend called me that Mitt Romney had suspended his campaign for the White House. And I had been planning a post urging him to stay in so as to remind John McCain that there are still conservatives uncomfortable with the prospect of the Arizona Senator as the GOP nominee. I had hoped that might confirm our party’s prospective presidential nominee in his commitment to the principles on which he has been campaigning of late.

I agree with Hugh Hewitt that the former Massachusetts governor showed class in announcing his decision to stand aside. It’s too bad that Log Cabin did not show similar class in responding to that announcement, reacting instead like sore winners.

More on that pettiness anon.

Will Britain Surrender To Islamic Rule?

I have to admit that even as a long-time forecaster of the perils of the global Islamist movement these developments in Britain completely shocked me.

Archbishop of Canterbury Calls for Sharia Law in UK - Evening Standard (London)

The Archbishop of Canterbury caused consternation yesterday by calling for Islamic law to be recognised in Britain.

He declared that sharia and Parliamentary law should be given equal legal status so the people could choose which governs their lives.

This raised the prospect of Islamic courts in Britain with full legal powers to approve polygamous marriages, grant easy divorce for men and prevent finance firms from charging interest.

Sharia Law in UK is “unavoidable” – BBC

The Archbishop of Canterbury says the adoption of certain aspects of Sharia law in the UK “seems unavoidable”.

Dr Rowan Williams told Radio 4′s World at One that the UK has to “face up to the fact” that some of its citizens do not relate to the British legal system.  Dr Williams argues that adopting parts of Islamic Sharia law would help maintain social cohesion.  For example, Muslims could choose to have marital disputes or financial matters dealt with in a Sharia court.

He says Muslims should not have to choose between “the stark alternatives of cultural loyalty or state loyalty”.

From the ARCHIBISHOP OF CANTERBURY?  The head of the Church of England?!?   What strange kind of hell is this?  Is he willing to accept that British gays will be hanged in the shadows of Westminster Abbey under Sharia law?

I guess I shouldn’t be shocked since 20% of British teens polled think Winston Churchill was a mythological figure.  PM Churchill would never have surrendered this easily to any form of fascism that threatened British sovereignty.

Nevertheless, I am simply stunned by this news… at the same time US troops are fighting back Islamic extremism and dying for freedom around the world.

It seems like the general buzz for McCain’s speech is good…

The blogger who was sitting right beside me was the guy from “My Man Mitt”…  he left about an hour ago and so now there is just an empty seat with the placard “My Man Mitt” in front of it…  lots of folks are stopping to take pictures of it, pretty much sums up where things for Mitt and company…

Jeff Gannon stopped by…  he is pimping a book called “The Great Media War”

I am always reminded why I am a Republican at events like this…  lots of clean-cut, good looking folks in suits and not a single dirty hippy with an f-ing Che shirt on…

More than one person is confused about why I am sitting here instead of Bruce…

Oh, and best line so far, from a young woman walking by me “Why do all of you have to be so good looking.  It’s just not fair.  All the good ones are gay.”  Hard to argue with that.

McCain on Immigration

Posted by LibertyDC at 3:56 pm - February 7, 2008.

I know that a great deal of the animosity towards McCain is a result of his position on immigration reform.  I thought folks might want to read what McCain had to say on that issue today.  It won’t make everyone happy, but McCain gets points in my book for both telling folks the truth about his record (He could have just tried the Mitt approach and said “I have always been for a secure the borders first approach”) and for admitting that he was wrong:

Surely, I have held other positions that have not met with widespread agreement from conservatives. I won’t pretend otherwise nor would you permit me to forget it. On the issue of illegal immigration, a position which provoked the outspoken opposition of many conservatives, I stood my ground aware that my position would imperil my campaign. I respect your opposition for I know that the vast majority of critics to the bill based their opposition in a principled defense of the rule of law. And while I and other Republican supporters of the bill were genuine in our intention to restore control of our borders, we failed, for various and understandable reasons, to convince Americans that we were. I accept that, and have pledged that it would be among my highest priorities to secure our borders first, and only after we achieved widespread consensus that our borders are secure, would we address other aspects of the problem in a wa y that defends the rule of law and does not encourage another wave of illegal immigration.

When McCain is at His Best

McCain’s closing is powerful.  No matter how folks may feel about McCain or about some of McCain’s positions, the bottom line is that he is a real American Hero – someone who has sacrificed more for this country than either Hillary or Obama could ever dream of…

You have heard me say before that for all my reputation as a maverick, I have only found true happiness in serving a cause greater than my self-interest. For me, that cause has always been our country, and the ideals that have made us great. I have been her imperfect servant for many years, and I have made many mistakes. You can attest to that, but need not. For I know them well myself. But I love her deeply and I will never, never tire of the honor of serving her. I cannot do that without your counsel and support. And I am grateful, very grateful, that you have given me this opportunity to ask for it.

Thank you and God bless you.

McCain Lays Out What is at Stake

Posted by LibertyDC at 3:45 pm - February 7, 2008.

Maybe someone should ask the folks over at the Obama campaign or the Hillary campaign or their buddies over at HRC why they don’t seem to give a damn about the treatment of gay people, women, and religious minorities at the hands of tyrannical Islamic regimes.  They don’t get – at all.  John McCain does:

Senator Clinton and Senator Obama will withdraw our forces from Iraq based on an arbitrary timetable designed for the sake of political expediency, and which recklessly ignores the profound human calamity and dire threats to our security that would ensue.

I intend to win the war, and trust in the proven judgment of our commanders there and the courage and selflessness of the Americans they have the honor to command. I share the grief over the terrible losses we have suffered in its prosecution. There is no other candidate for this office who appreciates more than I do just how awful war is. But I know that the costs in lives and treasure we would incur should we fail in Iraq will be far greater than the heartbreaking losses we have suffered to date. And I will not allow that to happen.

They won’t recognize and seriously address the threat posed by an Iran with nuclear ambitions to our ally, Israel, and the region.

I intend to make unmistakably clear to Iran we will not permit a government that espouses the destruction of the State of Israel as its fondest wish and pledges undying enmity to the United States to possess the weapons to advance their malevolent ambitions.

Senator Clinton and Senator Obama will concede to our critics that our own actions to defend against its threats are responsible for fomenting the terrible evil of radical Islamic extremism, and their resolve to combat it will be as flawed as their judgment.

I intend to defeat that threat by staying on offense and by marshaling every relevant agency of our government, and our allies, in the urgent necessity of defending the values, virtues and security of free people against those who despise all that is good about us.
