This Obama is a <em>real stand-up </em>guy. He didn't throw is long time friend, mentor and pastor under the bus.
He threw his grandmother under the bus instead....and wants the country to self-flagellate itself over what he sees as her failings as a "typical white person".

"if we are supposed to ignore asinine rhetoric because of some nice words and charitable works... in the case of Wright, why doesn’t this apply to [Religious Right leaders]men as well?"

Because it's not about consistency, logic or principle, with teh Left gheys. It's about their own raw, immature emotions and desperate need for external validation and approval.

The best example of the double standard of the Government-Media Complex is how the MSM treated Mitt Romney and Glenn Beck in regards to their Mormonism.. The way the MSM was plastering stories about it everywhere as if the religion was just newly created and no one had ever heard of it before.

And I clearly remember the MSM challendging Romney and Beck to account for the Mormon's racist past and to justifiy their personal affltation with the sect even though the period of racial discrimination is long over and done with.

What really annoys me about all of this is the glaring double standard from the Left. I've seen many partisans try and excuse Wright because of some nice things that he has done over the years, e.g. that he is more tolerant than others <a href="http://www.washblade.com/thelatest/thelatest.cfm?blog_id=17266" rel="nofollow">when it comes to gays</a>. One only has to look at how they treat folks from the Religious Right (which I am <em><strong>not</strong></em> a fan of myself) like Falwell, Robertson, Sheldon, Dobson, etc. As a gay man I have every reason to dislike these individuals, but if we are supposed to ignore asinine rhetoric because of some nice words and charitable works as in the case of Wright, why doesn't this apply to these men as well? Each of these men from the Religious Right have raised millions of dollars for charity and no doubt many people who've known them can attest to personal acts they have done to better their lives. Obama spoke of legitimate white resentment but he completely missed this when it comes to Wright: the double standard and free pass that bigotry from men like him have been given for many years is grating and has to stop. If it's bad for a white man to say these kinds of things it is equally as bad for a black man to.

Ok, Barack wants to lead this national "conversation" on race and we all need to educate ourselves and move to a higher plain. Ummm, could he first deal with his church of 8,000 members before he arrogantly claims to want help America progress in the area of race relations! And for a man who refuses to wear an American flag pin, to stand in front of brilliantly lit American flags when he is in a world of trouble, how hypocritical!

This "typically white"/"typically black" theme is amazing. My great grandmother was an octoroon. (1/8th black.) According to the conventions of the time, she and fellow octoroon Homer Plessy (of Plessy v. Ferguson fame) were considered black. She married a white man and my grandmother was a quintoroon (15/16ths white) and she made it across the color line to become "white." Now, my daughter is married to a black man with maybe a trace of Cherokee and our grand children are ....... well ......... friggin' American kids!!!

I honestly find "black" people more hung up on race and racial identity than white people. I don't have much truck with rednecks from down in the hollows, so I may be naive. But I am amazed at how many black people want to claim the grandkids as part of their tribe. Who shives a git?

Their dad graduated in the top 5% at the Naval Academy. He wears a different color skin from mine, but the only worry he has is that someone might think he is getting something he didn't earn. What possible good could be gained by perpetuating this type of institutionalized discrimination for another generation?

This junk Jeremiah Wright has been selling is nothing less than a lame excuse for not being competent. His "liberation theology" is the invention of a mystique over which he has control and by which he can exert final authority. It is a sophisticated version of peddling snake oil. Obama bought it. Think about that. Mr. Clean, Bright, and Articulate either signed on to the scam or he got taken. Either way, he is not worthy of  honest leadership.

Geraldine Ferraro used too much shorthand. She failed to point out that Obama was getting too many passes because the liberals and the MSM have been waiting for the Clean, Bright and Articulate African-American for a long, long time. Obama's worst nightmare would be to wake up tomorrow looking like Joe Biden.

Did Barack today really call his grandmother one "of you people"? I saw the picture of William Jefferson Clinton hugging racist pastor Wright. Is Hillary now going to have to distance herself from her husband? These Democrats really ought to get themselves a TV sitcom, this is getting really comical. Oh but it does matter to the future of the country. Small point. These people can't be trusted with the levers of power. By the way have Hillary and Barack met face to face and resolved to count the Democrat votes in Michigan and Florida? There is a large table available in Panmunjeom .Until they do, they can defer to the adults to help with the middle east, North Korea, Russia, Bosnia, etc. All their rhetoric is blather.

oh there’s some nasty stuff about to bubble to the surface.

According to Clinton sycophant Joe Conason:

“Doubts about Barack Obama’s presidential credentials have crystallized during the past two weeks over his stewardship of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s Subcommittee on European Affairs, which has convened no policy hearings since he took over as its chairman last January. That startling fact, first uncovered by Steve Clemons, who blogs on the Washington Note, prompted acid comment in Europe about the Illinois senator’s failure to visit the continent since assuming the committee post, and even speculation that he had never traveled there except for a short stopover in London.

…

So much for what might have been. Both Obama and his campaign spokespersons have taken pains to deny the suggestion that he has spent no time in Europe. As he said at the first Democratic debate last April, Obama regards the European Union and NATO as the most important allies of the United States, which would make ignorance of Europe a huge void for an aspiring chief executive.

“I’ve traveled extensively in Europe … I love Europe,” Obama told the Iowa Independent Web site a couple of days ago. But as Clemons noted on the Washington Note, the Obama campaign has not provided much detail on his European experiences and itineraries so far. ”

And now this

Obama seriously thinks of his own grandmother as a <a href="http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives2/2008/03/020088.php" rel="nofollow">"typical white person"</a>.

Would she think of him as a "typical black person"? Or "typical mulatto"? I don't know her, so I suppose anything is possible; but somehow I doubt it.

I guess by the time you are a has been vice presidential nominee for 20 years - you get to speak your mind.

Initially when GF made her comment, I thought that she was out there doing Hillary's dirty work. But now she seems to be standing on her own two feet, saying don't compare me to that racist. Her original comment may have made people uncomfortable - but it wasn't racist in the way the Reverends proclamations are.

Good for her for standing her ground. I think VDH is correct, there is something about Barry that doesn't sit right with a lot of middle America. His throwing grandma under the bus, and GZ highlighting that fact won't help him.

I'm not sure what this does to the campaign, he and Hillary are still neck to neck in delegates. I guess it just makes it a little clearer to the superdelegates how they have to vote.

“To equate what I said with what this racist bigot has said from the pulpit is unbelievable,” Ferraro said today. “He gave a very good speech on race relations, but he did not address the fact that this man is up there spewing hatred.”
Wow! Ferraro has crossed over! The coin of the realm among liberals is that it is impossible for blacks in America to be racists. According to their theme, you must have controlling power in order  to be racist.

I have heard many white dems condemn Ferraro's remarks as racist while skating backwards in terms of Wright's ..... uh ..... rhetoric. Poor Joe Biden. ("I mean, you get the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy.") Now what does Joe have? Â Obama is having trouble articulating his relationship with the master of liberation theology and Geraldine is ready to deal out the death by a thousand cuts on those who stood by while she was unceremoniously repositioned to a spot under the bus.

I have heard many white dems condemn Ferraro’s remarks as racist while skating backwards in terms of Wright’s ….. uh ….. rhetoric. Poor Joe Biden.
Obama should have asked how she felt about the comparison, before publicly making it.

Same with his (white, living) grandmother!
